I think he is toughen it out... He can't hear well to begin with.. think morter attack in he army... And not his ear is all stuffed up.. and painful. He is not happy but he is working thru it..

Hope he feels better. For some time I used to get nasty ear pain during descent.
I remember arriving in LA in agony once.

But they're much better now.
Have you heard of earplanes?? They sell them in the pharmacy at walmart.
They aren't as effective on short hops. But flights at least 2hours it's something.
