I am posting this because it's something I never took advantage of because I never 'made the connection'. Anyone who works for a city, state, etc. is a government employee. That means the firefighters, police, ems workers, etc. My husband has been a paramedic/firefighter for over 10 years and I never thought to ask for a government rate until this year. For some reason, I always associated it with either military or someone who works directly for the goverment (like a Federal employee).

We drove to Orlando in August and I happened to think about it when we checked into our hotel in Savannah.

So, just in case there are other dense people out there like me, I thought I'd post this!!!

I don't know the exact discount...I just know the hotel we stayed at on the way to FL had a gov't discount and we were able to use it as my husband is a firefighter. I see that the Swan offers a gov't discount so I thought I'd post about my experience.

Keep in mind that not all hotels that offer a government rate apply it so broadly to all government workers.
At one time the SD gov rate applies only to federal gov't employees staying on official business (Mr SwanDolphin changed it for us DISers).

My DH is an auditor for a chain of hotels and their gov't rate continues to apply only to gov't workers (at any level) who are on official business.

My advice is to ask first
