Government Shutdown and Disney Fund

Yes it is. I worked 16 years in that building. I'm now a little farther south in Florence. It's still considered part of the Cincinnati campus. Although, believe it or not, we report to the Andover, MA service center.

Hey, I work in Florence, too. But not for the IRS. :goodvibes

Fed employee here as well. Luckily not furloughed, just working on an IOU for the moment.

I feel for all of you who have been furloughed. And as some of you stated, these are different times, different congress, and it doesn't appear they would vote for back pay for those who have been furloughed.

There are a few petitions on Change.org about ending the shutdown and back pay for those furloughed. Doesn't hurt to sign.

Also doesn't hurt to write to your representatives and let them know the challenges you're facing.

Hoping this ends soon and doesn't drag until after 10/17!! Productivity in this office has for sure gone down. Coming into work and not knowing when we'll get paid for it sure isn't very motivating. :sad2:

You're active duty military? You should've been paid on the first as usual, it's the next check that should have been impacted, not the one on the first.

Yes :) we did get our basic pay on the 1st. We actually get paid a few days early so that didn't have an impact since the shutdown happened after the fact.

I was referring to the other pays such as incentives, bonuses, etc. We were told by DFAS it would not be affected but they are. So it makes us a bit worried if they really are going to carry through with this bill of us being paid basic pay as usual. But as I said we have to wait til next week to see.

I have little faith in the system right now. My 3 and 7 year old act more mature then these people in congress. Slinging mud doesn't help. Lock them in a room until it's resolved, just my 2 cents.

My heart goes out to all these folks who are out of work. :grouphug:

I read an article today, I think it was on military.com, that said they are expected to vote on and pass a bill for retroactive pay for federal civilians tomorrow (Saturday). Let's cross our fingers.

I understand that some live paycheck to paycheck. BTDT for many years. Now that my DH is a GS 11 and I work full time, we have savings for times like this.
But I don't understand the panic over saving for your trip. You will get paid. You will get the money to put into your savings. And you did get paid last week. So unless your trip is in the next week, relax. It comes out in the wash.

We don't live pay check to pay check, and I have been saving like crazy to pay our trip off by the 9th of this month. The problem is we have no idea when DH will get paid again. :sad2: if my trip was in December I wouldn't be as panicked because that would give them more time.

I called Disney today and I can extend the payoff date until 30 days out just incase I need to. While we have the cash in hand, our thanksgiving trip is kind of on the line at this point. DH is saying its a no go if something is not passed soon. Needless to say, but we are not seeing eye to eye right now.:guilty:

The lady at Disney said that they are tracking the calls with people effected with the furlough. I would imagine they are worried too about having multiple cancelations.

I'm so sorry, guys. We're not federal employees, but DH is state & I'm county. We've both been furloughed at times.

My husband actually lead the meeting that decided who was essential & who wouldn't be getting paid when our state went into shut down. He had to send himself a lay off notice.

Scariest weeks of my adult life, because there's nothing in my power to change it.

My fingers are crossed for you all that this ends very quickly.

The federal shutdown is impacting us as well. DW a state employee got an email today stating they will be furloughed to help pay for services that will not be funded by the federal govt by the shutdown. Hope the congress can get together and get this resolved sooner than later.

Wow! That's the first trickle down story I've heard; I'm surprised that story hasn't made it to national news. So sorry that its affecting your family too. I hope it's over soon.

I do have a sweet story about a side effect of what is happening. I was listening to the news on the radio in the car. There was a John Boehner quote saying something like, "this is not a game ... We don't want the government to be shut down...." Then I hear a little voice from the back seat say, " I DO!!!" It was my 7-year old DD who said it. I asked her why she would say that and she replied, "cuz I want you to be at home all the time." At least someone wants me. LOL.

Did she say anything about full refunds for people pass the 45 day mark?

Federally backed mortgages are being affected also. They're not being approved or processed and closings are being delayed from what I've heard.

I also saw a story yesterday that Congress and the White House agree that we should receive back pay for the furloughed days.

For the few other ladies that were talking about military pay this was just released my dfas. This doesn't sound as promising as the articles I have read. Seems like the 15th paycheck might be delayed after all? Not trying to scare anyone that is just how this was taken by me. That the bill hasn't passed (?) and that until it does everything is on hold.

I am a time keeper for three GS civilians. One is on exempt status, two are furlough. I will tell you that I was only allowed to certify the exempt person's time card and the other two time cards were left untouched. This untouched pay period includes the last full week of September, thus they are NOT getting paid for that week as their time cards were not certified. They may get backpay for that week but nothing from October forward as they were not in the office working (except for four hours the morning of the 1st to "outprocess" put on their out of office replies, turn in blackberry's, etc.).

I am active duty and my husband is a GS-12 on exempt status so he is working without pay right now, but we expect back pay.

This is correct.
All active duty received their normal pay and entitlements on EOM (End of Month 15-Sep to 30-Sep) paycheck (which most banks deposit on midnight 30-Sep and some call first of the month pay, which it is actually End-of-Month pay).

The way the military pay system works is everything has to be in system on the 8th of the month to be paid in the mid-month pay (1-15) and the 18th to be paid in end of month pay (16-31).

Based on the latest info on dfas.mil it appears military will not be paid on time. Wonderful! (that was me being sarcastic)

:sad2:

This is incorrect at most lenders. I work at the largest mortgage company, and we are closing loans without transcripts, and flood cents for 99% of clients. If we have reason to believe they are on a flood zone, and don't have flood ins it is re- evaluated and we are working with their home owners companies to confirm/ deny. And self emp (only) borrowers we are doing on a case by case based. Except right in the cusp we are approving. This is for VA, FHA, conv (Fannie and Freddie), as well as jumbos.

This was only a rumor, I spoke with old friends at 4 different banks, all same thing ... Barring SE, awful profile, and questionable filed returns business as usual.

Well, the House just passed unanimously the bill to pay Fed employees back pay after the furlough is over. I had heard this was coming. The White House backs the bill too, so it should go through easily once the Senate votes.

But since the furlough started 10/1, they should have been paid on 9/28 for the pay period ending 9/21.

Of course this will pass. Can you imagine the impact of 800,000k federal employees filing for unemployment would have on our economy?
