Gotta Perfect That Hula - A July 2010 PTR - UPDATED 8/3 - I STARTED THE TR!!!!

They ARE the best part of MGM. I love that MGM gives you that old Hollywood feel. Having these hilarious police officers, public works department guys, directors, talent scouts, aspiring actors, and established actors stolling around helps immerse you in that era even more.

I LOVE MGM for that same reason, how it feels like old Hollywood back in the 30's or 40's!

I can't stand that the Great Movie Ride isn't popular...if you look at the detail and attention they put into that ride, it's pretty amazing! Especially the Wizard of Oz part!

Great memories!! And FYI i am addicted to Wicked!! Love that show!!
I wish I had incredible vocal talent. Because if I did, I would play Elphaba in Wicked. And I would die a happy, happy woman. One of my best friends from high school and I always joke that we're the real life version of Elphaba and Galinda. Because we are. Almost to a T. And we even started out "loathing" eachother. She sang "For Good" (because of the 2 of us, she actually does have a pretty darn good voice ) with a couple of her friends from chorale at Baccalaurette before our graduation and I sat in the audience bawling my eyes out.

But anyway, yes, Wicked is INCREDIBLE.

OMG. I LOVE the Wizard of Oz part!! It's just so cool.

And yeah, the "feel" of MGM is awesome. Each trip I notice something new about the architecture on Hollywood&Sunset Boulevards. I love just sitting there are taking it all in.

Your memories were so fun to read about! :)

I am a theatre junkie too. I love the Wicked songs but still haven't seen it on Broadway yet even though I live in NYC! But the tickets never go on sale, so I'll continue to wait until they do haha. My regret is I never saw it when Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel played Elphaba and Glinda. I think both ladies are fabulous!

Idol has been just awful these past couple of years. I pretty much lost all interest once Tim got voted off, he sure was a cutie ;) Although I do like Lee now. He sorta came out of nowhere. The only reason why I keep watching is because I post in the Idol thread over at the Community Boards here on the Dis, it's so fun!

Loved your stories. I used to run off the bus to my grandparents' house to play The Music Man record. I thought it was the greatest! (I love that the above statement makes me soooo old. Okay, really 37 isn't that bad.)

I want to be silly, but it doesn't seem to suit me...so I think I might fall into the uptight section. Unfortunately, my daughters are entering the age where my uptight self is a much safer bet than my silly self.

OMG. I feel the same way about Kristin and Idina. I really wish I had been able to see Wicken while they were still in it.

Aw I didn't know there was an Idol thread. I'll have to check it out sometime. :thumbsup2

I love The Music Man! And it's ok to be a bit uptight. Just don't be too uptight. ;)

Hey Readers!!! Guess what today is...

The day I hit...

THE 2 MONTH MARK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

party: party: party:

:jumping1: :jumping1:

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

In case you can't tell, I'm pretty excited. ;)

Oh, and as a side note, as I'm typing this I'm listening (and doing a pretty epic chair dance) to The Safety Dance as performed on last week's episode of Glee. I'd strongly suggest heading over to youtube and listening to it. Maybe it'll help give you a better understanding of the ridiculous way my mind works. :rotfl:

Actually, while you're there, just listen to every song they've ever performed on that show. I'm a total Gleek. And the soundtrack is pretty much my go-to "I'm Excited AND I Just Can't Hide It" music. Last spring I pulled an all-nighter to finish a paper by listening to their cover of Don't Stop Believing on repeat for 5 hours. It worked like a charm. And I got an A. So thanks, Glee!! :thumbsup2

Anyway, you can tell I'm excited because I'm rambling. And it's excited rambling. Not angry rant rambling.

So where was I? Oh, right. EXACTLY 2 months from now I will probably be on a boat heading back over to the Magic Kingdom to see the Main Street Electrical Parade and fireworks. I'm not gonna lie, I'm definitely going to miss Spectromagic. Spectro just IS Disney to me. But I'll still be on my "OHMYGOSH I'M AT DISNEY" high, so maybe MSEP will do. Or I guess I could just bring along my ipod and listen to the Spectro music while watching the parade. Hmm...

I'm just so glad to be finally entering the home stretch. I feel like it's been forever since I was last at WDW. Even though it's really only been 10 months. But this has been a LOOOONG year filled with plenty of issues and drama, so I NEED this trip. Badly. I'm just ready to put my mind on the backburner and let the Disney magic take over. :wizard:

So that's this update. I'm sorry that it's totally lame, but I have a piece of ice cream cake calling my name. Today's a big deal for a variety of reasons. Not only is it the day I hit the 2 month mark, it's also my sister's 18th birthday!!!!

So happy birthday to my gorgeous, amazing, wonderful, talented, ridiculously awesome little sis!!!!!!! I love you tons!!!!

Ok. I'm off to stuff my face. And then watch the season finale of LOST with my mom. We've never seen a single episode, but we thought it would be fun to try and figure out what in the world is going on.

YAY for 2 months! :woohoo::woohoo: The time will fly by!

We are watching Lost too but we are Losties (and Gleeks :thumbsup2) and have been hooked since the pilot! Hopefully we'll get some answers tonight!

Horray for 2 months! :cheer2:

And Happy Birthday to your sis!

Omg, I LOVE Glee's cover of "Don't Stop Believing," it's my favorite song by them!

Congrats for 2 months! :cheer2: :woohoo: It will be here before you know it!

I've never watched Glee...I feel like I should start...:confused3

I'm sure hoping that the time will fly by!

After watching the finale, I'm kind of tempted to borrow one of my friend's Lost dvds. But then again, I already know how it ends, so maybe not. ;)

Horray for 2 months! :cheer2:

I LOOOOOOOVE Don't Stop Believing. I've always loved Journey. I remember hearing the Glee kids singing Don't Stop Believing in one of the promos last spring and I was immediately like, "I HAVE TO WATCH THIS SHOW!!!!" Apparently all you need to do to make me want to watch something is play some classic rock. :rotfl:

Congrats for 2 months! :cheer2: :woohoo: It will be here before you know it!

I've never watched Glee...I feel like I should start...:confused3
You should definitely start. It's a great show. I think FOX is planning on re-airing all of the episodes this summer, so if you have time, WATCH!! :thumbsup2

Hooray for 2 months!

Ahhh, I love Glee and the music is AWESOME. I think I got intrigued when I saw the ad with Don't Stop Believing. Love that show! My sister was telling me she saw an alternate script somewhere for the pilot and there was some flashback to when Will was in nationals (which were supposedly at Epcot!!!)and there were a couple lines about staying at the Grand Floridian or the Polynesian. Why oh why didn't they do that?! If they did a Disney episode that would be amazing.

I'm sorry that I'm just responding to this now...I've kinda been neglecting my poor little PTR.

OMG. That flashback scene sounds amazing. I wish they would have used it! And yeah, a Disney episode would be amazing.

Hey all!

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sorry that I've kinda been neglecting to update my PTR for a while now. I've been in a bit of an update-writing funk lately. I have the next update halfway done, but whenever I sit down to try and finish it, I kind of lose all motivation. To put it in Glee terms (because I feel like everything should be put into Glee terms) I feel like Vocal Adrenaline has TP-ed my choir room, egged me, and just blew my update away with a rousing rendition of "Another One Bites the Dust". And now I just can't figure out how to top it.

I need Mr. Schuester to come and teach me how to get out of my update funk.

Anyway, I'm hoping to finish the next update in the coming days. Although my sister is graduating from high school on Tuesday, so it probably won't be until after then. But who knows, maybe I'll get inspired and crank out an update tomorrow. I've just gotta crank up "Give Up the Funk" and get down with my bad self.

A special note to those of you who don't watch Glee:
I am so sorry not only for failing to update, but also for writing my apology for failing to update in Glee-terms. Sometimes I forget that the whole world doesn't speak fluent Gleek. I promise I'll try to cut down on the Glee-isms.

Okay. I can't really promise that... ;)

But thank you all for reading! I love you so very much! :grouphug:

Aw hang in there girlie! You'll get out of your writing funk soon! Sometimes it's best to not push yourself to write, just wait until you get back into the writing mood and then wing it :)

I don't think anyone would mind having Mr. Will Schuester as their teacher ::yes:: :cloud9:

How can you be in a funk?! It's so soon now!!

LOVE Glee!

My dearest DIS friends, THE FUNK HAS BEEN BROKEN!

*Cue the Hallelujah Chorus*

:jumping1:

And guess what broke it!

Not Mr. Schuester as I had hoped, though I am listening to “Give Up the Funk” while writing this…

But rather, TOY STORY. Or Toy Story 2 to be exact.

It was on ABC Family tonight and I stumbled upon it while flipping through the channels. The Toy Story franchise is quite possibly my favorite movie franchise of all time. Those movies have made me laugh, and made me cry. And also made me feel extremely guilty for not playing with my toys equally. Woody and Buzz and Jessie and Wheezy and the Green Army Men and Rex and Mr. and Mrs. Potatohead are some of my favorite characters ever. I love them all.

So when I saw the movie was on, of course I stopped to watch it. It just happened to be the scene where Buzz and the gang cross the street under traffic cones to get to Al’s Toy Barn. I smiled, I laughed, and I suddenly got the desire to UPDATE, UPDATE, UPDATE.

So thank you, Toy Story 2, for breaking my funk! In the words of the little green aliens, We are…or rather I am eternally grateful!

So here’s my update! I’ve decided to break the trip down, day by day, and share with you all some of what I am most looking forward to.

July 22nd: THE DRIVE :car:
I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this in my report yet, but my family drives to Disney. We always have, and probably always will. It’s tradition. I mean, what better way to start off a vacation right than by forcing all of us to sit within feet of each other for hours and hours?

Seriously though, summer vacation wouldn’t be summer vacation without rest stops, eating fast food in the car, and listening to my sister whine about how bored she is. There are also hilarious billboards, gorgeous mountain views, and the inevitable traffic jam in North Carolina. There’s just something about seeing all of the people with luggage in their cars coming to and from their vacation destinations that gets me in that vacation mood.

We will be driving the entire distance between our house in Ohio and Orlando in one day. Are we crazy for attempting this? Maybe. Probably. Ok, yes we are all certifiably insane. But we usually leave home at 4:00 AM, drive down to Jacksonville in one day, spend the night at a motel, and then get up crazy early and drive 2 hours to WDW the next morning so we can be at the Magic Kingdom for rope drop, anyway. Why not just add those 2 hours onto the end of the first day? Then we can sleep in later the next morning.

So we’re going to try it. We have a motel reservation somewhere in Orlando. I honestly have no idea where my mom booked it. I think it’s a Best Western, though. I don’t really have a motel preference. All I need is a bed that doesn’t look completely disgusting and a shower head that doesn’t just trickle out water. Because shower heads that trickle out water are the absolute worst for long-haired people like myself. And they leave me feeling like this.. :furious:

July 23rd: FIRST DAY AT WDW!!!!
This morning we will probably attempt to leave the Possibly Best Western around 8:00. And before long we will be driving through here… Ignore my dad’s shoulder and the interior of the car…It’s hard taking pics from the back seat!
001.jpg

We’ll head straight for the Polynesian. I will jump out of the car and kiss the ground because we are FINALLY in Disney. And back at my favorite resort! Then we’ll head into the GCH and I will get my “OMG WE’RE AT WDW” squee on. I’m apologizing in advance to anyone who might be staying at the Polynesian at this time. Avoid the GCH around 8:30 if you don’t want to listen to my high-pitched squeal. Or if you want a good show, come join me! Posting a video of my joyous freak out might get a lot of hits on Youtube!

Because it’s tradition, we will be spending our first day at the Magic Kingdom! Every vacation must start and end with the MK. It’s, like, the law. Or at least it’s MY law.

I can’t wait to do this again. The first walk up Main Street is always so exciting. I always get that extra spring in my step. And feel like humming a happy tune. It’s kind of like a scene from a movie.
007.jpg

Three Things We Absolutely Must Do on the First Day:
1. Complete the “Triple Mountain Whammy” – Let’s face it, those three mountains are all totally wham. I mean, if Stacey says it, it’s the truth. And a trip to the MK wouldn’t be complete until I’ve taken a spin on these mountains. I’m especially excited for this year’s Whammy because Space Mountain is all shiny and updated! Plus, Space Mountain always seems to be the ride where we get the most dirty looks from the Standby folk when using Fastpass. And I love a good dirty look. They make me feel special. Which is why I always make sure to play up the “elite-ness” when walking past the dirty look givers. A good “I’m soooo glad we didn’t have to wait in this horrible line” always does the trick.

Here’s a pic of my FAVORITE mountain…Big Thunder
331-1.jpg

2. Watch Stacey :worship: – In case you haven’t figured this out yet, Stacey is my girl. I adore her. She’s just so bubbly and full of joy. And though Disney has toned her waaaaay down, she’s still amazing. So the second we get into our room, I will be putting Stacey on. And refusing to move for about an hour while I watch her over and over. :happytv:

3. See the Main Street Electrical Parade and Summer Nighttastic Fireworks – The Magic Kingdom at night is extra super magical. I mean, isn’t this just one of the most amazing things you’ve ever seen?
292.jpg

Or how about this? It’s been my laptop wallpaper since we got home last summer. :wizard:
305.jpg

So yeah, we will definitely be taking in the evening entertainment at the MK. I’m really excited to see the new fireworks. I’ve had good times with Wishes over the years, but I am ready for something new.

HOWEVER…

I will be missing Spectromagic like crazy. Spectro is probably my favorite thing in all of WDW. I love it a ridiculous amount. And while I’m sure the MSEP will be good, it’ll still leave me feeling a little empty on the inside. I mean, these guys have been creeping me out for as long as I can remember.
032.jpg

How am I going to survive without them?

And the characters in Spectro have always treated me like someone special. I mean, this happened last summer.
036.jpg

Yep, that’s right. The Genie is waving at little old me. And for the girl who used to watch Aladdin over and over again growing up, this was, in the words of Joe Biden, a BIG F’N DEAL. Is the Genie in the MSEP? If not, I am going to throw a fit. And I am VERY good at throwing a fit. Just ask the doctor I kicked a while back because I was too scared to get a Strep Throat test. Yeah, that really happened. My poor pediatrician took a lot of abuse. He was actually the doctor that delivered me. The poor guy had no idea what he was getting into. :rolleyes1

Anyway…

It’s safe to say I’m going into this with pretty low expectations. I’m prepared to be disappointed. Then, if the MSEP is even remotely entertaining, I’ll leave content. Or as content as one can be without her precious Spectromagic.

July 24th: A Day of Firsts

On the 24th, my family will be heading to Epcot. It’s a pretty big day for us, because it’s a day that will be full of new experiences. And a lot of old, but still amazing, ones.

Three Things I Am Beyond Excited For at Epcot
1. Lunch at Le Cellier – I’ve already mentioned over and over again just how excited I am for this meal, so I won’t repeat myself. But just remember how REALLY REALLY excited I am.

2. Dinner from the Tangierine Café in Morocco – Fun Fact: I am addicted to Hummus. I LOVE the stuff. If I were Lady Gaga, I’d say that Hummus and I have a Bad Romance. I could honestly eat mountains of the stuff. I’ve always wanted to grab a nice Chicken Shwarma Platter from the CS in Morocco, but I never have. However, this year that will change. I am making it a point to eat there. Or at least grab a plate and meet up with the rest of my family somewhere far less “exotic”. Because they are all LAME and don’t like to try new things.

Because I don’t have a picture of the food yet, here’s a palm tree at night in Morocco. It’s so pretty there at night!
242.jpg

3. Impromptu Pre-Illuminations Dance Parties :dance3:– This isn’t a new experience for me, but let me explain. You know the weird sort of international techno music they play before Illuminations? Well, I like to have a little dance party when they crank up the jams. Nothing big, but my sister and I break it down. Or rather I break it down while my sister pretends that we aren’t related. She just can’t appreciate my coolness.

So I bust a move under the light of these puppies and all is right in the World.
206.jpg

Okay, that’s all for now, folks! But since my funk has evidently been broken, be on the lookout for more updates soon. I have so much more to share with y’all! Including 4 more days of WDW plans!!!

:hippie:

Hoooray for updates! I can totally relate to so many things you wrote about. I have such fond memories of our drives from NJ to FL. My sister and I would fight in the backseat and my dad would yell to knock it off and we'd just giggle and giggle. I would wait until the last possible minute to tell my dad I had to pee because I didn't want him to be mad that we had to stop and just when I thought I couldn't hold it any long, I'd tell him and he'd say, "Can you wait 20 minutes?" :scared1: There were always gatorades and twizzlers and pringles. My sister and I had many landmarks on the way. We knew we were getting close when we passed the WOFL radio station. For some reason, that always made us laugh and say, "Waffle!" So I totally get it...and I'm kind of jealous. I think when I have kids, we'll do the drive again.....good times!

Ugh, those Spectro men are the creeeepiest!! I am excited for the MSEP return though. Those aren't even the worst ones! The ones on the spinning balls are the scariest!

So glad you are out of your funk! :wizard:

:yay: for the funk ending! We love both Toy Story movies and can't wait for #3!

Your plans sound very fun and I love your enthusiasm!

yay for you getting out of your funk!

Your excitement is contagious  I love it!

My BF and I ate at the Tangierine Café for dinner on our first night at Epcot and it was pretty good! Not as flavorful as I would have liked, but still good. And of course Le Cellier...you are going to go crazy over the food! :goodvibes
