Got the call from AKL - Bit New Story Given

Does anyone think that they are offering the resort change so that you cannot complain upon arrival? It is a way for them to cover their bases before you get there and have the upper hand. I would think that if they are willing to incur the added expense the constuction noise must be unbearable. I agree that I would not want to deal with it on vacation.

Yes, I think you are spot on. Better to move people and make them happy than have them complain upon arrival.

The reason I'm not bothered by construction is that I will not be there during the daytime, and the majority of reports I've read are of people who are still having a great time at AKL.

I tried to tell them that I would not be bothered by the construction, I even tried to upgrade to Concierge since I heard those people get to stay. It just wasn't meant to be an AKL vacation for us!

I know, I'm sorry. The rep today had a much different view on it and was very nice. Even from the beginning she made it sound like only an option to move.

You'll have a great vacation though, and you won't have doubts in your head, about if you'll have to move when you get there.

I agree. I don't feel that Disney was overly accomodating. They appeared to take a nonchalant approach in my opinion. I didn't care that the resorts they offered cost more money than what I was paying at AKL, although they kept pointing it out to me. For us it wasn't about the money, it was about the overall experience for our family and I don't think they cared much about that, especially since they had all my money.

right? I have a question for you? did you complain and they said they would do nothing? i'm thinking i might do something call or write them, i'm not sure. i have to say i definetly agree with you about the whole experience of AKL. that is the only reason why i picked a deluxe hotel. i'm sooo not made of money, i would have downgraded and took the extra money for spending. o'well i guess that's life.

I totally understand, I would have been happy with an all day VIP fast pass! My pastor always says the differnce between bitter and better is "I". You will get there, it took me about 3 days!

thanks. i would be happy with an all day VIP pass too. i am getting there, just a little sad today not angry. i know in the end we have a beautiful place to stay and we are going to have a great time.

Everytime we voiced our unhappiness and asked for things that would not cost WDW anything (fast passes/VIP passes, etc) we were told that they were only affecting our accomodations and that was all they were obligated to deal with. We debated downgrading to a moderate or even to the Pop, but the trip was already paid for, I got a good discount so we decided to go to the Poly.

Oh! The other thing I asked for and did not receive....I asked if people being relocated out of the AKL would be given an option to book with a discounted rate once the resort re-opens. I asked several times and was told I could book with a discount if a discount were available to the general public. I thought I had a great idea!

I think you have a terrific idea - "Hello Disney, are you listening?"

The only reason to turn down a 1-BR villa is if you aren't planning on spending much time at your resort, but you will be in the parks all day.

The 1-bedroom villas are very luxurious and include a full kitchen (with all the basic cooking utensils, pots, pans and dishes supplied), and living room in addition to the bedroom, plus a large marble bathroom with whirlpool tub and a washer/dryer in a closet. The Master suite has a king-size bed, plus you get a Queen-size sleeper sofa in the living room, so you can sleep 4.

For Disney to offer you a better room and to still give you a partial discount is a great offer!

Your right about the DVC room. Couldn't sell or give me one. I don't go to WDW for a fancy room that I only sleep in and believe me I would never need a kitchen :lmao: When I'm there I will be out most of the time just having fun ! JMO

I feel your disappointment! We had AKL booked for DS's birthday. We also had to change ADR's, etc due to the move. It was very frustrating. I didn't like what the CM kept saying "we are only affecting your accomodations so that is all we are dealing with" In other words, don't ask for assistance in changing ADR's or anything else! I was more ticked off that I had asked specifically before I made my final payment and they told me I would not have to move, so they took my money and a week later they called. The idea of the Poly is growing on me, I'm trying to be positive!

Your kids are going to LOVE the pool. A great way to get to Mk is the launch. We went to Poly in Sept 2003 My Dd was 11 and it was hard getting her out of the pool. Definitely watch Wishes fom Poly's beach. Though we enjoyed AKL, I liked Poly better.

We booked the first day free dining was offered, whenever that was. Our first choice was AKL, but as soon as I found out they were going to be doing construction, we moved to WL. With a 2 and 3 year old, construction during naptime is just not an option and I had heard the animals were not going to be around. WL was my least favorite deluxe option, but the best option for us financially. I wish I had booked AKL lodge now b/c I could have gotten a discount AND a better hotel. However, we all have different points of view and goals in our stay. I am very happy that you got what you wanted! That is the most important thing, IMO. They can't make everyone happy, but it seems like you got the best deal for you!:thumbsup2

they told me they would not do the fast pass thing either. my friend who is bringing her dd5 and i got on the phone with disney and pretty much voiced our disappointment. at first the CM was a little annoyed but she warmed up. she got my AAA travel agent on the phone and wound up getting us the GF cause the poly was booked. i was very happy with that. can't wait to get there. have a great trip!!! pirate: princess:

Just wondering about your comment about the kitchen, when you stay in other rooms, do you use the frigerator for beverages or have snacks in the room. That is all we ever use the kitchen for in our DVC villa but it sure is nice to have the big refrigerator for cold drinks and snacks.

Wow, sure hope everyone has great trips! Why oh why wouldn't Disney offer some of the non-monetary consolations mentioned?:confused3 Make a guest happy and they'll return, "ruin" their plans and you've lost a customer!
