Got scared off from starting my kids on pin trading

Uh! This post makes me so sad. If only I had found it a couple days sooner. Yesterday I bought a set of 10 pins from 3 different people off ebay :/... I didn't even know there were scrappers. I really don't care so much for myself and my kids because we are just doing it for fun but I will feel very bad for putting fakes in circulation. Maybe I will get lucky and not get any fakes? I'm not going to know the difference so how am I going to know which I should be trading and which I shoudn't:confused3? Should I trade any of them:confused:? I now feel like I have wasted a ton of money for nothing. :sad2:

Hi Guys! Well, we're on our way back home now. I'm bored on the long drive, so I figured I'd report in and tell you how it went.

I was very indecisive about the whole thing, but my DH said to just buy some and not worry about it. Before we left, I bought several sets of pins off the Disney store website clearance section. I think they were marked down to $6.99 for a set of 4. I bought enough for my girls to each have 8.

Once they caught on to the concept, they insisted on looking at every CM's lanyard. They loved it!! Since they are little girls, all they wanted to look for were the baby princesses and princes. They didn't care about anything else.

We ran into several CM's who simply GAVE a pin to the girls! That was incredibly nice of them! I was so surprised! Lester at Tony's Town Square gave my DD5 a pin and then asked my DD7 what she would like. She wanted anything with a princess, so he took the time to go hunt down a princess pin for her! I'm so thankful and appreciative of CM's who went out of their way to make our trip more magical!

At the end of the trip, they each had some of their spending money left, so they both picked out 1 pin to buy.

We might have a few scrappers on their lanyards, but my DH said we'll just make our peace with that possibility. We didn't put any into circulation, we didn't spend too much money to get them started, they had a blast trading them all week, and they are very proud of the ones they ended up with!

It definitely allowed for more interaction with the CM's like you guys told me. One of the funnier moments was after my DDs first time on TOT. They saw a CM with pins at the exit of TOT. My DD7 is missing her 2 front teeth. While they were looking at his pins, he asked her if she lost her teeth on the elevator drop. Haha!

Thank you all for helping me make an informed decision! :worship:

How do you spot a "scrapper"? We are just getting started this year and I have thought about buying a lot from ebay. I figured if they said "Disney" on the back we were safe. Is that not the case?:confused3

Some are really obvious....
like..they just look..crummy..
like the paint is not right..
or they feel really rough..ect...
others are really hard to tell....
as..they make good fakers now...
so..it is really hard to tell a good one..
but..if you read through this and the other ebay thread...
you will realize..
all the ways..
to tell..that someone is selling fakes...
If you are paying..
a buck or less for a pin.
.they are..fake.:lmao:
I do not mean that you cannot get lucky and buy one for a buck
..that happens..
but..no real seller can sell you hundreds of pins..for under 2 bucks..
it cannot be done...
