We'll be in the 300 loop (pet preferred) and I've been looking at some maps. I have a pedometer map and it looks like the walk from the top of the 300 loop (farthest distance) to the dock area is about 1/2 mile? Is that about right? Are there any (safe) short cuts? I'm a bit mobility challenged due to a bad ankle and I'd like to save my walking for the parks! No golf cart, not in the budget, it'll be Shank's Pony for us.

Also, and I apologize if this is a dumb question, but do we need to worry about alligators* (ok, come on, stop rolling your eyes at me)? Our Dachsie likes to go out early in the morning (like 5-ish) for this morning 'business'.

*My sister used to live in Poinciana backing up to some ponds & gators weren't a rare sight for her.

Yes that distance is about right.

In the back side of 300 loop is a dirt driveway pull-off that parallels the canal back there that comes off Bay Lake. There are other dirt/sand roads back there that will take you over to the Settlement Trading Post and the boat dock area. But since it is soft in many places, it may take more effort.

At the entrance to loop 300 on the main road there is a internal bus stop that is shared with loop 500 right across the street. It's the last stop before you get down to the bus turn-around there at Pioneer Hall/Trails End. That would save you some walking.

Disney traps and relocates any gators of size around the Fort. I've seen very few and that was in the back canals not near campers and they were very small.

There is also a cut thru in 100 loop with a sidewalk.

Thanks, guys! Guess I'll be able to leave that 'gator spray' I bought from that dude on the corner at home. :p

Sounds like the bus will help. Or maybe I'll stick a thumb out at passing golf carts ; )

The problem with 'gator spray' is that if you are within spraying distance, they can lunge and get you. Those critters can also jump higher than you would believe and are fast for short distances. You need to keep them way further away than arm's length.

Be careful walking your fur baby near the water's edge lakes and canals....probably nothing to worry about at the Fort, though.

Is there really 'gator spray' or are you pulling my leg? I was just riffing on 'bear spray'! Lordy! If I see a gator I'll run so fast someone will nominate me for the Olympics 100 yd dash!
