Got My Waitlist.....Because I Called!

I have read on numerous threads that people who call and check on their waitlist have been able to get it. That was never me....until today.

I was on a waitlist for Jan 15 & 16 for BWV, BCV, VWL and AKV. I called today and was able to get the 15th at BWV. The CM said her system was down when I then asked her to check the 16th and told me to call back in half an hour. I called back and they had the 16th for me as well! I am very excited that I got the room I wanted

Would I have gotten the room through the waitlist? Who knows I guess. But if you are on a waitlist, keep calling!! I know it is annoying, but it might work for you!

I also added the deluxe dining plan for those 2 nights (we will be in a standard room for the 7 nights previous with no dining plan). I booked the Hoop Dee Doo, Yachtsman Steakhouse and Le Cellier!! And this is only like 6 weeks out!

Just had to share my good news with others who understand!! :yay:

Congratulations! You have some great Dining ahead!!

My waitlist for a studio for Jan 26th for three nights came through yesterday without calling. I called last week but it was not available. Yesterday it showed up on the DVC website under upcoming vacations.

I am currently booked at SSR and on the waitlist for 2 studios in AKV or BWV for Jan 24-28. I guess it is near impossible to have 2 studios become available at the same time. Right?

I think it really has to do with the timing. I was on the waitlist for all a 2BR and a studio at AKV for June and I kept seeing people posting saying they just called and got reservations. Upon reading this, I called as well. Mine was a bit more complicated because I wanted the 2br and the studio next to each other, but the CM was able to find both upon looking so in essence, we separted them. I still didn't get a savannah view, but a 2br standard with a lock-out, but I am at least at the resort.

I plan to call next week and now work on getting both the studio and the 2br at a Savanna view.

To others, I called almost everyday. I don't know how the system works as one waitlist for last year came through as well, but people are always cancelling and changing so I don't know if customer calls come before a waitlist is updated or what.

Diane:)

A little OT

Diane

Just wondering for the 2br what days and which part of the resort you are waitlisted for ? I have not seen any non availabel postings for a 2br on the DVC availability board.

I was thinking about trying to rent or get some points transferred in to get the 12th and 13th but if they have been on waitlist for a while I will probably not bother.

Thanks for the reply. I had original reservations at our home resort of BWV and asked to be waitlisted for AKV for either Jambo or Kidani. BUT remember that my reservation was for a 2BD and a studio together with a Savannah view.

When I browsed the boards one morning, quite a few people said they just called and got reservations for the same dates I had had but was on a waitlist - June 7 - 12. That triggered me to call. I discussed it at length with the CM and she said that if I was willing to separate my request to have the 2BD and studio together then I might have a better chance. I agreed and she put me on hold. Then she came back and said she had a studio for AKV if I wanted it and once she changed that from BWV to AKV then she would see about the 2BD - at least I'd have one swiched. Once that was done, then she put me on hold again and came back and said she had a standard 2BD lock off that just became available and asked if I wanted it, so I took it.

Like I said before, I question if you call and someone has just cancelled if you the caller would get the reservation or if they run the new open reservation across the wait list first. She did say that me being able to get both at AKV had a lot to do with the fact that my original request was for the 2BD and studio to be together.

Now I need to call to see if I can get them both to a Savannah view!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Thanks for the congrats! We are very excited about this trip. This is our once a year looong trip (we do 3 weekend trips per year too).

Michele, congrats on your WL coming in!

Diane, I hope you get both your savannah view rooms!

Thanks to your advice I called about our waitlists for 2 2 brms at SSR for Jan 25. And I was sort of lucky since one of the two came thru. Although I plan to keep calling to see if the other one will too!!

I never call until I get to the last 7 days. And I think I have cleared all but ONE waitlist (out of a lot. Since I tend to be a late booker I am generally not able to put it all together at once. For example in mid Nov I called and booked two nights at OKW and waitlisted the third night. It cleared, but I never called to ask. I would have called next week since that was the 7 day window and started doing the day by day calls....)

The only other waitlist I think I am going to "Fail" is one for Concerige at AKL in January over the Marathon weekend. Snowballs chance in you know where on that one all along LOL! And I knew it when I booked!

When you all call do you just ask them to check your wait list to see if it's come thru? Wondering if there's any magic to what I should ask them. Have a 1bdrm booked at SSR, waiting on either a 1bdrm or 2bdrm (an view) at BWV or at BCV. Nothing so far for 4 nights first week in Jan. Hoping to grab some of your good luck by posting here.

I learned the hard way recently that at least some of the time rooms go to those who call and not to those on the waitlist. From now on I will call if I am still waiting 3 months out. MS admitted to me that there are tech issues with the waitlist.

I had nights waitlisted at SSR for our Nov. trip and one of them came in without me calling but prior to that..I did call and the nights were available when I called. I say always call. I just ask for the nights I am looking for even if they say "Oh I see you are on the waitlist for blah blah". I have them check and two times I was able to get days that way. Good Luck to those waiting..... keep checking though.

We were on the waitlist for presidents day and the cm told us to keep calling because waitlists are done at the end of the day not automatically so if it becomes available and somebody calls they will get the res and it will not go to the list

I usually say "Hi I am calling to check availability for xxxx dates". I find that if I mention my waitlist, sometimes they just say nope nothing yet. But I like to know for each day what is available. It is amazing how much the inventory changes daily.

See.....this is what I love about calling MS. I was told that the waitlists are updated automatically all day long. Who knows!

We are going 1/28-2/1 and staying at AKV in a standard studio. We're waitlisted for the 29th.
