I was so excited, I got my nook for Christmas....now I need the inside scoop about how to enjoy it, for cheap! Books, games, whatever....tell me what I need?!
I remember people talking about free books at one point.
And, accessories? :confused3 What do I need? What are "great to have" but not essential? Is there a nook book light?
Thanks for your insight!

There is a Nook book light, but even the sales people at B&N have said any one will do. We got one at Target. I absolutely would splurge on a case/cover. That is the only accesory I got. You can go to the B&N website and it will have a list of all the free books, and all books under $5...and of course every other one! Have fun!!! :thumbsup2

If you go to B& N website and the nook book section and search 0.00 it will ist all the free books they are curently offering.

I bought a cover and that's my only accessory. Check out your library and see if they have e-books that you can check out. One of the big advantages of the Nook. ;)

Enjoy! I love mine.

The BN.com website is running so slow today. I just received one for Christmas also and was wondering what all was needed.

Watch your Nook for coupons. BN will occasionally send coupons under Daily Deals and you just take your Nook into the store with your (or use the code online) for the specials.

Anyone in the US can join the library in Philly ($15/yr. for non-residents). They have an impressive collection of books to rent for free (after the fee). Also, call your local library - I did and found out that my STATE has a free library of eBooks for all residents.

If you have facebook, "like" Barnes and Noble. They do "Free Book Fridays" and post updates when they're released.

I have a neoprene sleeve for mine, because I like to carry it in my purse/bag. I also have the light - and it works great! :thumbsup2

Congrats! You're going to LOVE your Nook!

Its under "Shop" and then at the bottom of the page is says Special Offers and Articles. Page through...generally there are 5 different offers. I have one today for a free smoothie at a B&N cafe.

My library has ebooks but they are NEVER available. You are on a waitlist forever.

I would like to find a library that has a good selection available to borrow. I might have to look into joining other librarys around.

that stinks. i got my Nook last week and have 3 library books on it. 2 I had to wait a few days for and the other I was able to download immediately.

I'm hoping that things stay that way.

Check out nookbooks.com. It is a great website that can tell you lots about how to get free books from a couple of different websites. It helped me alot when I first got my nook. I have even borrowed and loaned books on the site, the people are great!

Hope you enjoy it!

OP - the only accessory I recommend is a cover to prevent scratches and other damage. I have one from Oberon Designs. Pricey (@$80 incl S&H) but IMO worth it. The cover is stiff leather and it's kind of heavy but it's been dropped over 4 feet - it was in my purse which got knocked off the bar at DH's co. x-mas party and it and everything else fell out it then skidded across the floor quite a ways and there was absolutely no damage. I bought one from B&N for middle DS for his Nook and I'll be returning it as soon as I can dig out from the snow. The leather was floppy and flimsy and the little plastic clips to hold in the Nook just didn't look that sturdy to me. We ordered one from Oberon for my DS today. It was worth the extra money for something really sturdy.

A book light is nice if you like one but not necessary.

Anything else is really just fluff.

Thanks for all the neat ideas! Got my Nook for Christmas, too! The B&N website is running slow, dd says probably because of all the Christmas Nooks!:rotfl: Can't wait to get all set up to read!!

and then sort the results by "most recent" and you'll get the latest free releases on the first page or so (usually it's not more than 2 or 3...I check it daily) :thumbsup2

the only accessories I got was the plastic screen protector ($15), a clip on light ($15) and a cover, which I'm returning cause DH got me a navy blue one....I want something a little more "cute" :lmao:

I just got my Nook on Cmas Day and I already have 45 FREE books downloaded. I love it. Also check out booksontheknob/blogspot.com It's more of a Kindle site, but it has a free Nook section too :)

Don't forget to check the Amazon website for free e-books for the kindle. 99% of the time if it's free for kindle it's free for the Nook. I've gotten some great books that way.
