Took my daughter's script for Adderall to Walmart and had no problems what so ever. All pills were there. But the physician gave me a 3 month supply. Meaning I have 3 separate scripts to get filled. No problem. But I really hate having the 3 physical scripts at my home. I wish they would just keep them at Wal-mart and let me have them re-filled when the appropriate time comes.

That's different from what happens with us. I usually get 3 refills on a single script and the pharmacy keeps it on file.

interestinly enough... we went to the base to fill vyvanse today. my sons doc give me 2 months worth of scripts at a time, anyhow base pharmacy told us that if the script is more then 30 days old they will not fill it. ill have to take in town!

our area. Norfolk / VA Beach has had a bad shortage of Adderall. I was on 30 mg 2 times (gastric bypass) id have to do the run around to find pharmacy that had 60 pills in stock!

you count the pills today? :)

with adderrall?
DEA wont allow refills.

No, not with Adderall - I was thinking my BP meds! Never even thought of the drug category. My daughter takes Adderall but handles her own scripts.

dea called my doc cuz my high dosage and I attempted to fill it one day early.. very strict on that class..

My doctor always gives me three separate scripts, but puts "do not fill before xxxx" on the second and third one. That gets around the 30 day expiration issue.

the base is going by date written. the do not fill part isn't really effective.. the insurance companies won't allow early fill either ( they will deny the claim)
doc has to write the date on the script. can't future date it. that would be fraud.

There is no law that states a prescription must be filled within 30 days of writing. So that pharmacy is incorrect. Of course, you aren't going to win an argument with the military. (:) 25+ year army spouse)

My pediatrician also writes my son's Focalin scripts as "do not fill before XX" and I've never been given a problem. He also takes a short acting Ritalin when necessary for evening activities and I don't fill that one until I need it. A 30 day supply usually lasts 3 months. That one is rarely turned in within 30 days.

regards

I wish my DR could give me more than one script. I have to drive an hour to his office every month to get DS13 his script.

I always count those suckers! They aren't cheap. We had one month between insurances and I had to get his pills because it was final exam time, it was about $250 I had to pay out of pocket. I made sure they were all there at that price

Different states have different requirements when it comes to controlled substance prescribing, thoug they all follows DEA guidelines. The amphetamine/CNS stimulant class of drugs is schedule II, so refills are not allowed. In KY, birthplace of the prescription drug monitoring program, post-dating in the manner above to get around the 30-day-supply-no-refill state rule is forbidden. That does not mean prescribers don't do it, it just means it could be a problem for them if it were reported by the pharmacist or health consumer. I work for the VA and even though we are federal, we go by state prescribing laws. We have a DOD sharing agreement, but I'm not sure how the rules apply there. Most civilian pharmacists I know would not fill a post-dated prescription, but some might let it by out of habit. I do not believe there would be a problem filling after 30-days, but I could see that varying by state or company too.

Get 3 separate scripts as well for focalin- with 2 having "do not fill before" written on them.

dh gets his Ritalin scrips every 3 months-doctor gives him 3 individual scrips which are written out with instructions on when the pharmacy can fill each. we drop the scrips off at our local safeway pharmacy where they hold them on file until we call them (have to speak directly to a staff member-can't use the automated system) instructing them to fill the scrip each month. walmart pharmacy won't accept the scrips to keep on file for refill for you? I would check around with some other pharmacies in your area-it's pretty common around here that most places will.

I take Focalin for ADD. My DS takes Vyvanse for ADHD. My DH just started taking Adderall due to a TBI in January 2015. None of our rx's can have refills. We need a new one each month. My psych & my DS's psych write out the scripts "do not fill until xxxx". We have never had an issue with getting the rx accepted, but finding the meds each month is starting to get ridiculous. I have to drive all around town stopping at each pharmacy to see if the med is in stock. Because of the class of drug they aren't allowed to tell you over the phone if it is in stock or not. I'm in FL so I'm not sure if it's just here or if it's like that in other states.

Depends how the doctor wrote them. If he post dated them (which isn't the legal way to write a prescription in some states) the pharmacy can't hold them. The computer system probably won't allow a future date to be entered into the system. If the doctor wrote three prescriptions all with the same written date but with instructions on when they can be filled (the legal way) the pharmacy could probably enter them into the system and hold them for you. Educate your doctor on the correct way to write them.

Exact same way in Georgia.

Used to be that Adderall was such a controlled substance that they gave me the script on a multi-part form, and had to provide my drivers license and sign my life away when I went to fill them, and it had to be filled within 7 days. (15 years ago). It's such a pleasure having just the plain prescription now -- but I still think there's a limit as to when you need to have it filled (less than 30 days).

what I stated is the local base.. (little creek amphibious base.. boone clinic ) will not fill the script that is over 30 days old, they told me if have to go out in town. going into town costs me $25 bucks, on base free
