I'm all thumbs and the virtual keypad is driving me crazy. Please tell me it will get easier and I will quit hitting the wrong thing. I swear, I have to try everything at least 3 times!!!! Arghhhhh!
I've recorded my voice mail message, my contacts are loaded, I can text-sometimes-if I'm in the right place but just failed at being able to respond to my husband. I'm normally tech savvy, waaaaaaaah!

Droid 2's have a slide out real keyboard. Did you get a Droid X? If it is an X, type in the horizontal mode-the keys are almost as big as a laptop keyboard. It's great.

Have you tried turning the phone sideways and getting the larger keyboard to 'pop up'? Definitely makes it easier. Also, check your settings - there is an auto-correct option and a spell checker that I love (but my husband does not love). Both of those make texting easier for me, although I do make mistakes also. I find that with practice, it is still quicker than texting on the clamshell type phones, as well as Blackberry - those keys were always too small for me. Congrats on the Droid - we love ours :thumbsup2

I just got the Droid Incredible and am loving it! DH kept insisting i would hate it and needed a real keyboard. He has the original Droid.

Mine has a speaker icon i press and can speak the words i want in my txt. Look and see if you have that option. its at the bottom left by the comma on mine.

I was concerned because i had a samsung glyde before and took it back because the touch pad never worked. I am having a very easy time on my keyboard. It also gets larger if i turn it to the side but i'm finding i don't need to do that.

I am wondering the same.
I love my Droid x keyboard. The swype feature is fantastic!!

I gave my BlackBerry Curve 8530 to my mom and I got the new Android Samsung Epic 4G over the weekend. I LOVE THIS PHONE! The slide out keyboard is amazing, its taking sometime to get used to after using BB for over 2 years, but I'm really excited about this switch!:thumbsup2

I have that too-I guess. I never really paid attention. That is SOOOO cool. I learn something new about my Droid X every day :thumbsup2

edit: I just sent DD a couple "spoken" text messages and it got every word correct. FUN!!!!

I use the slide out qwerty keyboard. I can't use the screen keyboard! Blech!

:smokin:I have the microphone!!! I can text verbally, yay!!! Thanks so much. Soon I'll be swyping.

How do you set up the keyboard to swype? I just learned ANOTHER new thing about my phone today. I didn't know I could swype (or what it was-had to look it up).

OK, nevermind, I figure it out-had to change to the swype keyboard

Any other cool tricks/tips for your Droid? I figured out the other day that on the page to the right of your home page you can put in your "favorites" from your contact list and set it so one click opens a text to them or one to call.

I am considering getting a Droid at the end of this month when we are up for an upgrade. I had a Blackberry for a few weeks and hated it. The buttons were too small. I am just afraid that it will be too much phone for me. I'm a simple kind of girl but I like techie/game stuff too. I have a couple of friends that have a iPhone and love them, so I am considering getting a Droid. I like the idea of having a real keyboard.

I think the Droid X is actually easier to use then the Blackberry. It is all touch screen and you just touch what you want. I don't play a lot of games on mine but my kids do. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the virtual keyboard. It is SOOO much easier to use then a real keyboard.

I finally found that microphone icon, didn't realize it was on the keyboard and not on the main screen. That is a very cool feature, it not only works for texting, it works for facebook and the web browser too!

It will get better. I still type some things wrong but for the most part it gets better. I've had mine (HTC Desire) for a month and love it!

I just got my Droid X last week. Still trying to find my way around it.

Keep the tips and tricks coming. :cool1::thumbsup2

Shortbun, if you have a Droid 2 then you must have the slideout keyboard? Unless maybe did you mean that you had the Droid X? Those do not have the slide out.

I have a droid 2 and can't text using the poke-on-the-screen method. It's very frustrating. I exclusively use the slide out.

Yep, it's a Droid2 with a slideout. We decided we might not be able to use the virtual easily so we got the 2. I'm getting better but I can not swype to save my life. Neither can my son though and HE can do anything techie so I feel vindicated. Someday.

Yea that was my reasoning for getting the Droid2 as well. I know I can't type on the screen. It's bad enough as it is now because smudges drive me insane! lol :rolleyes1

I'm not too keen on the swype either. Although I do use it as my "unlock" feature.
