Got COVID-19 during first home resort visit :-(

I’m sitting here at Wilderness Lodge with a fresh COVID-19 positive test. Who knew you could get it at an amusement park?

I feel like crap. I’m just going to quarantine in my room. I wish I could watch Obi Wan on the TV!

This thing is still out there. Stay safe!
Prayers that you are feeling better soon. As an infection prevention nurse, I can confirm 1000% that COVID is still out there and going strong. The Omicron strain that is the most dominant right now is so highly transmissible, much more contagious than the original strain or Delta. Please be safe everyone! My family is coming to WDW in a few weeks and I am a bit nervous but hoping between the vaccine and us having the 1st Omicron variant back in January (thanks to my middle-schooler!) we will have some protection!

I hope all of you recover quickly with no long haulers. Be well everyone.
We’re headed there this Sunday for a couple weeks. Little nervous knowing Florida is the heart of this beast right now. More cases per day that are “reported” than most small countries. And Florida is only reporting residents not cases.

DH tested positive after our Memorial Day weekend trip and he has been boosted in December. We drove 9 hours to/from WDW within a 5 day period. Neither I nor our adult kids got it. Kids had their own room, but I was with DH most of the time.

He didn't start running a fever until after we got home. He complained about chest tightness halfway through the trip and also accused me of lowering the air conditioner temperature. He usually freezes me out! Earlier in the week he visited a grocery store and talked with the manager for a while - manager told him that they had 11 people out with covid. Don’t know why he didn't “run for the hills” and instead stayed awhile. So, I think he got it before we left but still shocked the rest of us never got it. He is finally felling better, but was in bed for 2 weeks even after anti-viral treatment.

Have you contacted your physician? DH was able to get a telemed appointment and doctor prescribed the anti-viral and cough suppressants. Being sick on vacation is the worst - hope you recover quickly.

I’m feeling better this evening. I’m now at Vero Beach, the last stop on my Covid Tour. I’ve only walked to the beach. Otherwise we’ve just been in the room.

My doctor called in a Paxlovid prescription for me and my wife to help with any symptoms during our long drive home to Ohio on Saturday and Sunday.

I’m ready to be home. I’m sad that my first real big DVC trip ended this way. There will be more trips, however!

So sorry you are sick while on vacation ☹️ We also got Covid last month right after our stay at BCV. We wore masks and sanitized, but it’s super contagious. Please stay hydrated and rest! Get well soon.

I had the original strain in January 2021. I gave blood last month and the RC was still testing for Covid antibodies. My blood was still reactive for antibodies almost 16 months later. If you are vaccinated and have had Covid this year already I would not even think about worrying.

If you got Covid while at WDW, did you do indoor dining? We are going soon and I’m considering canceling the few indoor ADRs we have booked since I don’t know if it’s worth the risk. This is our first WDW trip since before the pandemic and I really don’t want to end up sick and quarantined in our room..

Also OP, hope you’re better soon.

We did some indoor dining, like Pinocchio’s and at the Pandora land quick service.

I recommend getting all your park days in at the beginning of the trip before you get sick!

I had that happen to me in May! I'm double vax'd and double booster'd. I was NOT as mask compliant as usual - probably wore mask in 95% indoor and 0% outdoor. i'm a mobility scooter user and there's LOTS of hands moving/pushing it around all places. Due to an iritation in my eye I stopped using hand sanitizer 100% of the time to maybe 1% because I found myself rubbing my eye... anyway...
at first I thought it was allergies - slight tickle in throat and way more tired than usual (but I am nearing 60 with issues) so I figured it was just my body saying I'm waking up too early and staying out too long. When the tickle didn't go away and I actually went back to Coronado Springs (now known to be as Coronavirus Springs) during the day I knew something wasn't quite right and took a COVID test which was very positive - what a negative on vacation. I contacted CS staff and was immediately put into isolation in my room for the next 5 days. I texted the manager on duty food orders and it was left outside my door. I was prescribed Paxlovid and thankfully my brother & sister in law live 15 minutes from WDW and they were able to go to the pharmacy to pick it up for me as the pharmacy wouldn't deliver that particular med. I literally slept about 19 hours for the 1st 4 days.

Leaving Monday June 27 for my next 11 day (Happy 60th BD to me) stay at Pop Century. I will wear a mask constantly. I will use sanitizer on my scooter and every possible surface. I never want to feel that yucky again if there's any possible way to prevent it. This is my last scheduled vacation for this year and I'm hoping whenever my next one is, this is much less a threat. Because right now - it's still pretty bad
Thank you for being responsible and considerate of the health of fellow Guests!

I think I got covid too when we were in WDW jan of 2020 before it blew up into the mess we have now

I woke up 2 days before we were leaving to come home--throat felt strange--but that was about it--flying home was no problem until it was time to land my head felt like it was going to explode

the next several days I was feeling worse and worse --running a fever--took tylenol about 4 hrs later fever was back--tired couln not stay awake--and aches

finally my throat got so bad I knew it was strep--they tested me and that was positive--usually antibotics knock it out of me after a full day of taking them--not this time
it took a good 3 weeks before I really started to feel like myself
of course at that time they werent testing here--as it wasnt a big deal here--
so Ill never know for sure--
I am 2x vaxxed and one booster--next one in a few months

I work in a hospital so Ive been exposed for the last 2 years Im not on the front lines though

that was the last time so far Ive been that sick (knock on wood)
hope the best for all

We gotta be crazy to travel nowadays with threat of Covid and all the flight cancelations. Setting ourselves up for alot of potential misery. But, can't wait to go.

Lots of folks are getting it there. 2 cousins just came back with it. Read a trip report from another family and all 6 came down with it there. Disney moved them to the cabins at Ft. Wilderness to keep them from interacting with other guests in the hallway and elevators. My Aunt works for the cruise line and they have recently had 1 cruise with 200 people came down with it and another 330 people came down with it

I’m starting to wonder how does Disney keep their parks adequately staffed if so many people are getting sick at the parks? Most of their staffs aren’t wearing masks and characters have been doing meet and greets….do they allow sick employees to still go to work? 😵‍💫
A lot of this is that folks could be coming to Disney with it. Look we are allowing folks from other countries to come here without testing now. Saw a news story that a YT Disneyland Vloggers who went to ride POTC at DL when it first opened and they both went knowing that they had Covid.

Oh @Spivey378 I'm SO sorry to hear that you are ill with Covid at WDW! I tested positive this past Tuesday, with DH and one DS testing positive this past Wednesday. We are not at WDW; we are home, for which I am thankful. DH and DS had mild symptoms, and I feel like I got hit by a Mack truck. I cannot imaging feeling this way on vacation. It sounds like you have done everything right and notified all the right folks about your positive test. Bravo! I hope you are on the mend, especially on your way home.

When I tested positive with a PCR test, my provider listened to my lungs and said I had significant congestion, and that paired with my MS made me a candidate for Paxlovid. While I am grateful for the Paxlovid, I had some side effects -metallic taste in my mouth and tummy troubles to name a few. The tummy troubles were significant enough that it would have made traveling either by air or car a challenge. I was glad I was home and close to a bathroom. Just something to consider.

I am vaxxed and double boosted, and I went to WDW in the summer of 2021, and twice in March 2022. All three times I masked everywhere inside, and in big crowds outside, and my travel companions and I did not get sick there or bring Covid home, thankfully. I have another trip planned at the end of September this year. It will be the first time I have flown without mask requirements, and I'm hoping that the fact that I've been vaxxed, boosted, and have had an active Covid infection gives me protection from another infection. I plan to mask on the plane, indoors everywhere, and outdoors when I'm in big crowds, like I did for my previous trips.

I wish you well, Disfriend, and I hope that you get home safely and recover quickly.

I also did Paxlovid and the same metallic taste in my mouth. Only tummy issues two times and both times were right after I drank some herbal tea. I read herbal products didn’t mix well. I stop and tummy cleared up. However, after 5 days ended, some of my symptoms came back. Mostly cough and slight sore throat. I used otc cough suppressant for a couple of days and it cleared up. Was a little nervous when the symptoms came back. But all is good now. Take care.

I’m sorry to hear you (and anyone else) has been sick on vacation 😞.
I know how much planning and excitement goes into every vacation.
We all look forward to that time to relax and enjoy our time away.

I hope everyone who has been sick is feeling better now.

Everyone else, I hope you all stay well.

Add us to the list of positive cases coming home from Disney. We were at CCR/WLV for 9 nights starting June 20th. Our DD16 started having congestion two days before we left. Our DS's best friend was with us and tested every day. All negative. Wednesday the 29th we tested before checking out and doing the 15+ hr drive home. All negative. Around 11:45pm, as we were unpacking at home DD, for fun, sticks the thermometer in her mouth and she has a low-grade fever. The next two days she tests negative.

By Sunday morning at 8am DS who lives in his own home texted the group he is positive for Covid. I woke up my DD and tested her and low and behold the fastest I have ever seen a test come back positive. Both have been in isolation since. Even symptom free my DD refuses to risk infecting her dad and I, we are both high risk. Our local health dept said she could come out of her room but she is refusing until she tests negative. Our DS is the same he won't come to our house and risk seeing us even though his symptoms are gone.

Neither are high risk nor got Pavloid and both seem to have recovered well. DD still tests positive as of this morning but the line was very faint so it must be moving out of her system.

One interesting thing to me is her pediatrician expressed the need for her to have her own bathroom and us not cross contaminate, always using gloves when transfering items. I am glad we were not all in Disney sharing a bathroom.

Our other DD gets married the 16th and two members of the bridal party, plus my kids have tested positive. It is a destination wedding so I am crossing my fingers we can get through that without issues.
