Got an upgrade but...

I just checked on my reservations and I got upgraded from Cat 11 to Cat 9. WOOHOO!

However, I had booked two rooms - one for us and one for my parents, and my parents did not get an upgrade.

When I made the reservations through DCL, I booked under GTY status, but I told the agent I wanted rooms next to each other, or at least close to each other. Now I'm on level 2 and they are on level 7.

Does anyone else have experience with this? Should I call DCL and ask them for rooms together? I would hate to lose the upgrade. I know my DS will just LOVE the porthole.

Did you check the reservation online? When are you sailing?

If you're not sailing for awhile, I would give it some time before calling DCL. They may be in the process of working your sailing and just haven't gotten to your parents cabin yet. Were they also booked as GTY and now have a confirmed cabin assignment?

Congrats on the upgrade! I wouldn't give it up...sometimes a little distance can be a good thing when traveling with family! Your parents may appreciate the chance for some quiet time.

I would call DCL right away and explain the situation. If you wait they might not have rooms to upgrade your parents too. See what they can do. If they can't get your parents room closer to your room, you can decide then what you want to do -- give up the upgrade or stay further apart. I seriously doubt they'd take away your upgrade over the phone unless you chose to do so -- the worst that could happen is you'd find out the way things stand is the best they can do.

And did you check the map to see the rooms are? Maybe you're both right near the same elevator bank, making convenient? Just hopeful thinking on my part!

When you book under GTY status there is no way that DCL can guarantee rooms next to each other, or even rooms in the same category, as you see.

Did you link the reservations together for dining and have them cross-referenced as parties traveling together? I would do that if you have not already and hope that your parents get an upgrade too, but there is no guarantee. It may be that only you get the upgrade.

Yes, I checked my reservations online and yes, I booked both GTY status at the same time. When I told the agent that I wanted rooms together or near each other, she said "I'll make a note of that", so I assume they know. Maybe that did not get relayed.

Anyway, the rooms are not close together. One is in the middle of the ship on deck 2, the other is all the way at the front of deck 7.
The trip was partially to reunite grandparents and grandson for a visit, and I know my parents don't want "time to themselves." They consider this a visit with their grandson who lives 700 miles away from them.

Can you only check your reservation online if you booked it online through Disney themselves?

It would be nice to check ours..we have rooms assigned however so it is probably pretty doubtful any of us would be upgraded? We have 3 cabins.

I think anyone should be able to check their reservation online if they have their reservation number and the phone number the reservation was booked under. You may have to "register" on their website though.

Well, I called DCL, and they told me the only way I could get rooms together is if I went back to Cat. 11 (on deck 6). Well, at least the agent tried. She said there are no Cat. 11 rooms on deck 2, that's why they couldn't move them down there. I decided to keep the rooms separate. This way at least one room has a porthole, and my parents can hang out in my room if they want and use their room only for sleeping.

They did say we were cross-referenced to dine together though. I wouldn't have thought to ask that, so thanks Michelle!

You can only check your reservation on-line if you booked through DCL. I booked through DVC and have to call them to find out anything about my reservation -- I cannot check on-line.

Personally, I think that stinks and just causes and unneccassary extra hassle for the TAs.

I'm so excited. This is going to be the longest two months of my life!!!!

First, congratulations on your upgrade!

Second, my parents went with us last year. We had booked cabins by each other. They upgraded themselves at the port and we were on deck 2 and they were on deck 6. At first I was a bit disappointed because, like you, we do not live near them and my kids don't get to spend much time with them (maybe see them once or twice a year tops). It worked out fine! You really do not spend that much time in the cabin. We found we hung out with them at the Promenade lounge or on the pool decks etc. Had breakfast, and dinner every day with them, went to all the ports together, blah blah blah. Being on separate decks also prevented the kids from always wanting to go to Grandma and Grandpa's room! They wouldn't have minded I know, but we still wanted them to have some down time from the kids. We all had a GREAT time.

I have been waiting and hoping to find someone else on our cruise. Only one other person is on the countdown list.

We made our reservations almost the same way you did. We got 2 cat 11 GTY and requested as close as possible. No kids this time. Celebrating our 20th and my cousins honeymoon. We can't wait. We are however really getting excited to find out our room numbers. We are booked with Dreams. I go out and check our reservations with Dreams 10 times a day hoping our rooms have been assigned. We even have the reservation numer form DCL but can't check it through DCL's site cause we didn't book with them. It shouldn't matter who you booked through I think DCL should let you check your reservations.

We are flying out of KC early on the 2nd. Hoping to get a limo over to the port.

Maybe we will see you.

How exciting! Another person on my cruise! We should definitely meet! I don't think many 3 day cruisers check this board for some reason. I have noticed very few people signing in on the Who's Cruising When list for the 3 day cruises. I can understand the 7 day cruisers wanting to get their money's worth. Maybe that is not as true with the 3 day cruises because it's cheaper. Just my guess though.

My parents are flying out of STL. I used to live there, then moved down to SC. We are renting a car from Budget since we'll be there 2 days ahead of time. They've got great rates!
Sounds like a great 20th anniversary though.

Thanks for the reassurance. That's great to know. I know we will have a good time. Adjoining rooms would have been ideal, but that's OK. Beggars can't be choosers, right? I am definitely grateful for the upgrade.

Just noticed you're from West Des Moines. I did my graduate work at Iowa State, so I am quite familiar with that area. It's been a while since I've been back though. Are you flying or driving to KC? The last time I flew from Des Moines to KC, the little "mosquito" prop plane, as I like to call it, was a little too much excitement for me! I hope you are on a jet if you fly.

When either of you cruised before did you have a DIS meet? We had one on our spring break 2003 cruise and it was great to see the faces of all the DIS people I had been chatting with. We had ours right before the sailaway party and said hello. For the rest of the cruise it was neat to see those at other places.

PD- not on your cruise but in the "It's a small world category" I went to Podiatry school in Des Moines, delivered the Register, worked at Younkers at the West mall and lived at 1800 Grand in West Des Moines in the late 80's. Pretty area. I still have a stuffed Christmas Youinkie the Pig. So, and have a good cruise.

It is a small world. Sounds like you know the area. We live near the corner or 19th & vine. My sister lived at 1800 grand for 2 years. It is so close to our house that we would walk over and swim with them.
Delivering the register is what helped pay for our spring break trip this year. We will be starting again as soon as we return from our anniversary cruise so we can pay for our spring break 2004 cruise. Great exercise and good money. My husband delivered all through high school and continued for almost ten years after we were married. Almost didn't get to the hospital in time for our fourth child to be delivered because he had to finish delivering his papers.
Younkers is still in the mall.
