Got an upgrade! But will this cabin be ok?
DH and I had a gty 10a and got our cabin assignment - 5518, which is cat 8a! From looking at the deck plans, we are going to be right above the balcony seating of the Walt Disney theater as well as on the same deck with all of the kids clubs. Has anyone stayed either in this cabin before or nearby? How is the noise either from the theater or foot traffic?

We are so excited for the upgrade and the chance to stay in one of the double porthole rooms!

Thanks for any info... just want to be prepared!

We booked 5516 and that is a great location! We love being forward on the ship. The room is far enough forward that you won't hear anything from the kids clubs. You shouldn't hear anything from the teen club either. There is an accessible entrance to the teen club at the end of the hall but that shouldn't be used by everyone if they restrict it to accessible access. The theater will only be an issue during the show times, which is when most are either at the show or at dinner. Being on the dream you won't have matinees during the day to have that affect nap times. We never have a problem with foot traffic forward on the ship. Many people also do not think that you can get from forward to aft on deck 5 so until they figure that out the traffic will be reduced as well.

Excellent! Thanks for the replies!!! We are starting to get really excited.... our documents came today! :cool1: Now we just need for the next 4 weeks and 6 days to hurry up...

I think I would consider yourself lucky. Although it appears that most 10A's are in better locations than on the magic/wonder, with a GTY 10A, you could have been put anywhere including on Deck 6 aft. There are posts that some of these rooms two floors above the Evolution can still hear the thumping music from the Evolution nightclub.

To get an outside room with porthole seat is great! Enjoy the larger room, large windows and an awesome cruise!

Congratulations on the awesome upgrade! While you'll miss out on the virtual porthole, I'd take a natural light real porthole any day! Lately, since we started seeing pictures of the actual 8A rooms, they've been selling like hotcakes, and I've seen several cruises where the 8A room costs more than the lowest 2-3 verandah categories (Cat 6A & B, and sometimes Cat 5E). Make sure you take lots of pictures.

I assume 5518 is the same as 5018 (but on the right side of the ship, which I prefer.) My TA originally booked us in 5018 for a Fantasy cruise in 2012, but we had her move us when we saw this on our confirmation:

Deck:
5

Description:
Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom

Attribute:
Shower Only - No Tub in the Stateroom (emphasis mine)

I don't know if that matters to you (if it's just you and DH as mentioned) but for us with small kids, we wanted a tub. These rooms were originally designated as accessible on the early deck plans, then the accessible flag was removed. It appears that they may have been originally designed to be accessible, but without fully meeting or perhaps being equipped for full accessibility. So I don't know if that means it's an open shower or not, but it just sounded like it wouldn't work well for us. I'd really like to see pictures of how the room is laid out.

Thanks! We do think we got lucky - you are right about getting put above one of the clubs!!! That was my biggest fear with taking a gty! We actually had to change our cruise dates by one week because of a work conflict, and gty cabins were all that were available. Luckily I found out about the conflict not long after we booked and was able to change it right away!

Thanks! We are really excited and thrilled to get an upgrade! We will take a lot of pictures... It is going to be just the two of us for this cruise - the kids are coming with us when we sail in August. We have connecting insides for that cruise. I guess it doesn't matter to us if there is a tub or not! I did see that it was marked on the Dream deck plans that I have saved on my desktop that the room was accessible, so I was surprised to see you write that the room might not be fully accessible. (I know that some people do not like the rooms that are that way...I have no experience one way or another...)

I am excited see the double portholes and see how the room is laid out as well - there really have not been too many pictures. Heck I'm just to get on the ship!

I booked a cruise for December 2012. You're absolutely right! All of the Category 8 rooms cost more than the 6B's and the 8D's we priced were nearly identical in price to the 5E's and this was before any room category was even close to selling out. I could choose any room on the ship as it was one of the first days of booking.

We ended up choosing a balcony over the Cat 8's, but all of the Cat 8's have more inside room than any room except the Suites and Cat 4's. The Cat 8A's are even bigger from what I've read, but are awkwardly laid out. I didn't know about the tub situation, but that wouldn't affect us as our kids are older and take showers instead of baths on the cruise anyway.

Did anyone take any pics if this cabin? I would really like to see the cabin before selecting it for our next cruise.
Many thanks in advance!

WThere is an accessible entrance to the teen club at the end of the hall but that shouldn't be used by everyone if they restrict it to accessible access.

Top that off with the fact that the accessible entrance is on the port side (most teens won't go starboard only to have to go all the way back to port to access the club) and that the hallway on the starboard side doesn't go aft (it ends at 5552) like port side does (where it passes by the BV Theatre) and foot traffic shouldn't exist at all, other than your hallmates.
