Got an orange kitchen?

We have a burnt orange in our bathroom. With accent with browns and yellows. I love it.

Now I will be repainting the columns in the dining room that the previous owners sponge painted yellow and green. :rotfl: That just irritates me.

They were pretty enamoured with faux finishes I gather? I'd move in as is, but I think I'd be inspired to paint pretty darn fast!

The color isn't that bad, but the paint job could use some major improvement. Then you added the other picture with the yellow walls, and the green dining room and the columns. I'd say find a day and paint it all. If you have to live with the orange, then I'd accessorize with blue. It looks like it is already in the linoleum, so its a natural to go with.

I had a terra cotta kitchen not too long ago with oak cabinets and it looked really nice, until everybody kept buying me red appliances. I liked my terra cotta with tan and chocolate brown elsewhere in the house. I finally gave up and painted the walls red. It looked fantastic, and my small appliances didn't have to hide in the cupboards anymore.

I must have the decorating and style sense of a toaster... but I don't think there are enough drugs in the world to make staring at an orange kitchen every day anything less than horrifying. :scared1: I would don some dark sunglasses, and get it painted FAST. But that's just me. :thumbsup2

Our kitchen is orange.
We really want to update the kitchen, but we just can't afford it yet (just bought the house 6 months ago). So for now we just painted it. :thumbsup2

I don't have an orange kitchen, but I do have a color that many think is weird- it's a dark raspberry, almost a pink-y burgundy. I love it- it is cheery and warm. The white trim and light oak cabinets look good against it.

I like color- I say try it for a little while. If you warm up to it, great. If not, you can always paint later.

I think it would look nice with cobalt blue and lemon yellow accessories.

(I just realized that one of my pictures below pretty much has that color scheme, except the blue would be darker.)

Here's the kitchen. I finally figured out how to get pictures from my cell to my computer. :rotfl: I'm not sure if they meant to show each bruch stroke or not. Please excuse my realtor's back. :)

That's actually quite pretty! You can work with that.. Lean towards earthy tones - greens; browns; etc.. (Think "autumn"..)

I actually like it.. :)

When DD and her DH were looking for a house we went to this one home (empty) and I thought my eyes were going to fall right out of my head.. Everything was pink - in the entire house.. And I do mean everything.. Don't know where they got it, but even the kitchen sink, stove, and fridge were pink.. It looked like someone had been on a bad LSD trip with a HUGE bucket of Pepto Bismol.. :rotfl:

We still joke about that house - call it the "Pepto Bismol" house.. I'm wondering if they ever sold it because aside from that (and everything having to be replaced) it had the neatest floor plan (several "levels") that I have ever seen in my entire life..

I think I know where relatives of the owners of the Pepto Bismol house lived, C. Ann. Back when we went to see an old friend's first house, literally everything in the house was mauve -- and I do mean everything, paint, carpet, cabinets, fixtures, window treatments -- including all blinds. They even went to the extent of spray-on/fleck-painting the faucets!

Oh, I did exaggerate a tad, forgive me. One window in one of the bedrooms had a primary color Sesame Street curtain . . . over a mauve mini blind, of course!

I swear I have never seen anything like it. I just couldn't help but think, why?

my neighbor is painting her whole first floor purple.:confused3

As a kid, we did. Orange, avocado green, gold. Very trendy. Very bright. Very ugly in the old pictures. Even the chairs were covered in orange vinyl. :scared: I just don't know what they were thinking. We were kids and didn't notice. They could have covered the walls in tin foil and we'd have just asked where the cookies were.

Yours doesn't look bad, though. You paint over that orange and it'll be pretty. ::yes::

I, personally would paint it. I like softer colors. Your house is LOVELY. You must be so excited to move it. :goodvibes

I have those exact same lights in my MA home in the kitchen over the table....I will try to post, kinda hard to see but if you need more lights that match those hanging, we got them at LOWE's.

OP, Is that a coat/jacket hanging next to the refrigerator?? Is that were you will hang them??

When we bought our house, we had purple- and I mean PURPLE! kitchen. Next to a moss green family and a pink dining room. Not to mention the black carpet on the stairs. It was all out of there before we moved it.

I like the orange color- it's certainly bright and cheerful! And, like many PPs have said- you can do a lot with that color as far as decorating...

:rotfl: Yeah, just the walls. I will repaint it, just not until the semester is over, or maybe after the holidays. Maybe I'll just feel better when my life doesn't seem to be moving so fast all the sudden. :rotfl: I won't be painting it before we move in there next Tuesday.

So much easier to paint before you move it. I would really try to paint first you'll be so happy you did.

OP, Is that a coat/jacket hanging next to the refrigerator?? Is that were you will hang them??

:rotfl: No, the realtor had taken off his jacket and hung it there while writing out the contract. There is a coat closet by the front door.

After seeing your pictures I think the orange looks pretty good! I think with your red appliances you could accent with cobalt and lemon (someone earlier mentioned these colors). Go for a real bright tropical or abstract look.

Sometimes when I'm stalled on a color combo I go to art.com and look for pictures that would suit my style/theme. Then I pull out colors from the pictures.

For example, this might work as an inspiration for color combo's in your kitchen:

Okay, everytime I scroll down I think this thread says "Got an orange kitten?" I think its time to go to the eye doctor. :lmao:

OP, I like the color but I'm not sure about the paint job!:confused3 Whatever you decide, I'm sure it will look fantastic!!!:thumbsup2 Congrats on the new house!

No, but the house I grew up in had orange and green paisley wallpaper. The house was built in the 1880's, but remodeled in the 1970's. :rotfl:

I don't have a picture but the kitchen of my old house was orange & brown, as in orange counters & dark wood. It was the ugliest kitchen I've ever seen and my mom refused to change it, even after I kept referring to it as the Brady Bunch room. She actually liked it.
