The home we are buying has an orange kitchen. The home is empty so it's really hard for me to visualize what it will be like if I leave the color for a bit. The flor is white linoleum and the cabinets are oak. Most of my things are kitchenaid red. :rotfl: Hopefully I can tolerate the color until spring. I'll just be lucky if I can find time to get my stuff movedc there let alone paint. :)

So, if anyone has picture of their orange kitchen that they would like to share with me, I'd love to see them. My family says I just have a fear of color. They're probably right. ;)

No but I really want one. I would love to paint my kitchen tangerine, a shade of orange. But boyfriend doesn't want to. I think we agreed on green for the living room but haven't bought the paint yet. We are waiting for the weather to cool down so we can open windows and air the fumes out after we paint.

Would fall or leaf decor work? I know my kitchen is golden yellow and I have some reddish, gold, green pottery (if I am remembering correctly :goodvibes ) that I got from Kirklands a few years ago.

what shade of orange..I keep seeing a bright orange or a red orange in my head..is is muted or more peachy?

"most of my things are KitchenAid red" & "my family says I'm afraid of color" ? I say they don't know what they're talking about.

My cabinets are very light, natural maple. My floor is light cherry hardwood & my counters are a beige-stony look. Walls are a deep, buttery, creamy type yellow on the work side & same yellow up top in the eating area, with a fall-toned orange on the bottom. Works beautifully with my sunflower decor. Sorry no photos for you.

hey! That's the color or DD's bedroom--burnt orange! The college she loves so much and wants to attend has the school colors of orange and garnet. So, she'd say to add those kitchenaid appliances and enjoy! LOL They
have actually had a lot of orange and garnet/red stuff out in the past 2 years. I was always telling her she should start collecting them now. ;)

Good luck. I have a friend whose kitchen was done in the early 70's and it is bright orange (even countertops!). It is cheerful in there. I feel sure you'll be able to blend it for something you like.

What exactly IS orange in there? Not the countertop cabinets or linoleum...just the paint? Couldn't you just repaint it?

OH, I see---it is the paint with no time to repaint it. Heck for 6 months, I wouldn't worry about it. I'd just go with orange and garnet! ;)

Couldn't you just repaint it?

:rotfl: Yeah, just the walls. I will repaint it, just not until the semester is over, or maybe after the holidays. Maybe I'll just feel better when my life doesn't seem to be moving so fast all the sudden. :rotfl: I won't be painting it before we move in there next Tuesday.

 my bathroom was burnt orange and there was green tile, green tub and green sink. I said it was the 1st thing to paint and I just painted it a month ago after living in the new house 1 year. I am still working on the green tub, sink toilet combo.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO do everything you can to paint if now or you will forever be saying "this is not my style it was here when we got here" to your friends.

Trust me. Painting can be theraputic.

What about going over it with a faux finish, brown glaze or yellow color or something to lessen the orange? Cheaper than painting.

Try googling orange painted wall picture and see some pictures of what others have done.

My dining room is orange (sort of a melon/sherbet orange), and I love it. I accessorize with apple green, it looks fresh and clean.

Yep - we have a very 70's house. It's the Brady Bunch kitchen with orange (bright, vibrant orange) counters, dark cabinets, yellow stove top and HAD a yellow sink. We replaced the sink with stainless steel. We just can't afford to re-do the kitchen yet - still have 1 kidlet in college. So we make the best of it. The wall in the adjacent eat-in part had been white, and we painted that a complementing peach, touched up some major trim areas in a vanilla color, added a ceiling fan and it looks and feels like Key West. I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but the peach really pulls it all together! We used the color matching guide from Home Depot.

As for our master bath, it had a hideous green toilet and a blue shower stall. It was awful. We did manage to get that re-done.

My kitchen wasn't orange when we moved in but 3 of the 4 bedrooms in my house were... Got rid of that FAST and let me tell you orange is NOT as easy color to cover you'll need GOOD primer and GOOD paint!!

I think it's kind of a burnt orange.

My kitchen is this color and I LOVE it. It is warm and rich and a great contrast to the white cabinets. Keep it for a while, maybe it'll grow on you.

My bedroom is the same terra cotta color.

Hi there. My DH and myself have a split level home. Our kitchen, dining area and living room all have the same (Harley orange) paint. We have cathedral ceilings that have almost a mango color. There is a wall that seperates kitchen, dining area from the living room. It looks like a sunset in the Islands, that was the look I was going for. We have oak cabinets and gray counters. Our flooring is inlaid (muted) pavers in gray, blue, mauve. It looks much better then I can describe. I have alot of the Island flavor. So red, olive, brown, tan, the earth colors will do just nicely. I say leave it and see what you think next year. Lets us know what you decide. :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone. :) I'm going to try googling orange kitchens to see what I can find. :)

Here's the kitchen. I finally figured out how to get pictures from my cell to my computer. :rotfl: I'm not sure if they meant to show each bruch stroke or not. Please excuse my realtor's back. :)
