I just saw that they were having a sale on the Dis boards headlines and pulled up my Oct flights- $70 cheaper. I called Airtran and they are crediting me the difference and I can use that $70 dollar difference for our Jan flights. You should call if you have already booked at a higher rate... glad I did!

This happened to me too! Except each of our flights went down $100 apiece! They gave me a $200 credit and I just booked a Thanksgiving trip to Pensacola where we own a vacation home. I am very pleased with AirTran so far! :cool1:

I personally don't care for Airtran, as they change their schedules so much! Every flight I have ever booked with them has changed drastically or canceled all together.

That being said, the best thing with them is, if they change the schedule at all they will give you a full refund. That came in handy for me this week, as my cousin decided not to go with us this week.

I've been looking into flights for the first week of December. Air Tran and Northwest have been the cheapest so far. The prices change so much- I wasn't aware they would discount for you after booking.

Us too! $100.00 per person less so total $200.00 off! I Love Air-Tran, We have had nothing but Great Flights so far. Lucky I guess..

Take the credit & run, this is a major shift for them, always heard "so, sad - too bad" when this happened in the past. One of the reasons we're trying SW for a return flight next trip.

What "type" of tix did you have booked originally, i.e. non-ref. sale fare or internet specials or the type thru a TA that you can assign seats earlier than 24 hour window? Wonder if that makes a difference?

The small print still says that they charge $50 to change an existing reservation. Did they wave this fee? If not, it would cost me more than I already paid.

This is good to know. I understood that Air Tran did not have a refund policy if fares dropped and had decided to book with SW. But, if something has changed...I'll look into Air Tran. We have always had good luck with AT and our schedules have varied by no more than 45 minutes. Thanks for the update.

This is what I've been told, except for "vouchered" tix, that they'll let you change once w/o extra cost based on availability.

BTW, it's $50 EACH way, not RT

I'm guess I'm going to jump on this one too. I just called and they told me that I'd only get like a $5.50 credit after the fee. Did they waive your fee, and if so, what did you say to get them to do that? I'd love to be able to get back some of that $$$!
Thanks!

I don't understand why they are charging some people a fee. Are they considering changing your tickets to the lower fare as a change that warrants a $50 fee? When I called I just told them I noticed online that the price of my flight had gone down and I was wondering if I could get a credit. I was given a $100/person, no $50 fee. I don't think this is AirTran's official policy, like Southwest, but I think we're just getting lucky!

I said that I had seen cheaper online rates and there was no mention of a $50 fee at all. I was given the exact difference in a credit which can be used to book a future Airtran flight! I had originally booked online myself (no TA). I was ONLY able to do this because they still had the exact flights available still- at least that's waht she told me. Anyone having trouble, I would call back and try a different agent, they may not give you a hard time!

This happened to me a few weeks ago, but I got a credit of $700!! Yep...seven HUNDRED dollars!

There are 5 of us flying to Orlando for Thanksgiving. The prices were high when I booked, but the times were great, and DH will only fly non-stop, so I booked them as the prices kept going up and up.

Got on line one day and noticed a HUGE price difference. Called AirTran to ask what my options were (since I didn't want to give up my reserved seats) and I got the full credit. No fee to change, and the credit is fully under my name, so I have a full $700 credit, not 5 $140 credits.

DH & I get to take an "adults only" vacation next year with this credit!

Just wanted to post that this happened to me AGAIN! First I got the $200 credit from the reduced fare for my October trip to WDW. So, I used that to book tickets to Pensacola for Thanksgiving. Well, then the flights to Pensacola went down! So, I called back and was told I couldn't have any credit. I then went on Airtran.com and found the customer satisfaction number (1 866 247 2428), and called that and the woman I spoke to was more than happy to help me. Now I have a $39 credit with Airtran! So, if you're not successful, just keep calling, or even try a different number.

no offense to the people who were able to obtain the "waiver" of the fee but, the rule is clearly posted on the AT website as to changes...why do companies selectively enforce their policies?

JMO -if they're trying to compete w/SW's liberal policies, they should officially change their rules for everyone, not just those who ask.:confused3

I agree, it's unfair.

When I called, I was only inquiring about what my options, if any, were. I didn't ask for a credit, and I certainly didn't ask for the fee to be waived. I was truly expecting to be told that what I paid was what I had to pay, end of story.

The rep I spoke to was so nice. He let me keep my seat, but gave me the price as if I was going to have to wait for seats at check-in. Sometimes I believe it is the luck of the draw.

I really don't begrudge anyone's good fortune...

just think that it does depend on who you speak to...

do know that I've been dissatisfied w/AT's resolution of problem in past & kept calling, finally got a satisfactory resolution.

Glad that OP did relay experience, will remember for the future.:thumbsup2

Ditto. It never hurts to call and ask what your options are! (even if it is staying right where you were)

For this reason, doubt I will use them again. I called to say I saw a $200 drop in our tickets, and their first reaction was "too bad" . I then sent an email, and was given a "courtesy" credit for 1/2 the difference. This was given only after I explained I would no longer use Airtran if they have no policy for return customers. We had used JetBlue only before Airtran started a direct flight. We then changed to AirTran, using them at least twice a year, if not more. JetBlue always adjusted their ticket price with a credit.

But I do agree, if it's their policy, so be it, it's our choice where we spend our $. Don't make or break policy rules for one and not another.
