I've eaten the brunch at Goofy's Kitchen a couple times in years past and liked it. I've noticed the price increase though and am not sure it's worth $44 a person. We are staying at GC this time so I was thinking about giving the Storyteller's Character breakfast a try as it seemed cheaper. Thoughts? What are the main differences?

Thanks for your help!

Just out of curiosity - when did you see a price increase for Goofy's? $44 should be the peak dinner price, not the off-peak brunch price. What happens is, normally Goofy's has breakfast/brunch prices for the off-peak season and the dinner prices for the off-peak season, which are different. Then, in the peak seasons like summer and the holidays, they raise the breakfast/brunch prices and they raise the dinner prices, but the dinner prices are always higher than the breakfast/brunch prices, no matter what the season. In any case, when we ate breakfast at Goofy's (which we have been doing since 1992) in October 2008, that was considered the off-peak season, and the price was around $27 per adult, roughly. The peak season breakfast should be around $32 or so. However, when we just ate breakfast at Goofy's again in December, that was the peak season and they had NOT raised the rates from what they were in October, shockingly. They were supposed to raise them, but did not. It would not have been wise for them to raise the rates because from what a Disney Dining person told me, the Priority Seatings for the character meals were down during the holidays and overall, probably due to the economy. So if they raised the breakfast/brunch prices from $27 to $44 that would be an awfully large increase in a tough economy! Usually they just hike them up by $5.00 each year or so, and same with dinner. That is why I was curious to know when and where you saw that $44 rate, because that sounds like peak season dinner prices to me! I wondered if they just hiked up the breakfast/brunch rates as soon as 2009 hit.

Anyway, I like Storytellers better as a regular, off the menu restaurant than for its buffet. But I prefer Goofy's by a mile over all. The Storytellers buffet is cheaper than Goofy's by a bit. The main difference (and for me, the reason why I like Goofy's better) is that Goofy's has a much wider selection of food because Goofy's is all day character buffet and never acts as a 'regular' restaurant like Storytellers does. Storytellers has a more limited buffet but some people love it. You can also order off the menu at Storytellers, unlike at Goofy's. The characters are different from Goofy's, other than Chip and Dale, and are often lesser known. They have characters from Brother Bear, and also Rafiki, sometimes Meeko, and the other jungle and woodsy-type Disney characters. It is a pretty quiet restaurant, not as lively as Goofy's. Storytellers is definitely worth a try if you want a cheaper character buffet. I remain a diehard, loyal Goofy's fan because their buffet is just too good!

I prefer Storyteller's for its quieter, more laid back atmosphere. I also enjoy the food better and the option to order off the menu since I'm not big on all-you-can-eat buffets.

I've been doing so much searching about DL lately, I don't recall where I saw that. That price did include tax, gratuity, and "admission". I hope you're right though, it would be nice if the info I saw was incorrect.

We are going 2/23-2/25, so I'm sure that's not peak season.

Thanks for the info!

Okay, I just found out the Goofy's rate for you. I didn't think to ask about Storytellers but we already know that is cheaper. I called Disney Dining and the breakfast/brunch price for Goofy's next month (off-peak season) is $32.21 per adult, including tax and tip (less than that if you have an AP or AAA and get a discount). I told the Disney Dining person about my December experience, and how the prices were no different than in October, and she was puzzled. She said, as far as she knew, "they" were supposed to be raising the prices for the holiday season and isn't sure why we got the lower rate. In any case, that is not important. The important thing is that for now, the Goofy's breakfast/brunch is $32.21. So, for dinner, it would probably be about $5 or $6 more than that. The Dining CM told me that normally, they would be raising the prices again in summer (peak season), but they MAY not do it this year because of the economy. They may hold off on raising breakfast prices until the holiday season at the end of the year.

Storytellers also gets raised in price, too, but they should still be cheaper than Goofy's.

The dining number is 714-781-3463, just in case you need to call and get any other prices from them.

Honestly I am unsure if its what I am eating at Storyteller's or what, but the three times I ate there the food was always terrible! I felt the need to apologize for meeting a friend there when no one in our group liked the food or the service. We went for lunch and dinner, but honestly I would not go back.

What things did you eat at Storytellers, Fairycat (so I know what to avoid;) )? I definitely do not like Storytellers as much as many other DIS'ers do, and I don't have to eat there every trip, but I haven't really had a bad experience like you have, Fairycat. I like it well enough so far. The breakfast buffet just didn't appeal to me when I had it because it was limited. It tasted okay, but just didn't bowl me over. And the off-the-menu breakfast stuff seemed too expensive per plate. Now when we ate there for lunch in October, all the food that the three of us got went over very well. We were all quite pleased with our choices and we all had different things (a burger, a thick turkey and bacon sandwich and a veggie burger). Now, when we went back to Storytellers for dinner in December, the lower priced menu options were very limited, as were the dinner buffet choices. So it was either a matter of getting the spaghetti at a lower $17 a plate or paying $27 for a steak or some crazy thing. We both got the spaghetti (because we felt like that was the only logical option) and fortunately, it was delicious spaghetti with yummy garlic bread, but I would have liked to have the same choices to pick from as the ones on the lunch menu - just a wider variety in general.

We don't mind paying $32 or $37 or whatever price Goofy's turns out to be by the end of 2009 because we feel it is worth it for what we get at Goofy's. I guess it is all a personal choice of what each person feels is worth it to them.

I've never eaten at Goofy's but I like Storytellers. DH loved the ribs he got there for dinner several years ago but they were pricey. I got a steak and it was good too but also pricey (we were celebrating our anniversay so decided to splurge). They used to have a really good chocolate, peaunt butter, banana creme brulee but that was when they first opened and it's now long gone. :sad1:

More recently (about 2 months ago) we had lunch there and I didn't really see anything that sounded that great to me on the menu. I got the chicken sandwhich which I wasn't that excited when i ordered it but it turned out to be really good. DH got some sort of pizza thing. It was basically a pizza only they gave it a fancy name. He said he didn't really care for it. I don't think it was horrible but it wasn't that great he said.

We agree. We're not big fans of storyteller's for brunch. The food is okay, not great, just okay. The last couple of times service was completely lacking. By far, the best character breakfast/brunch is Lilo & Stitch's breakfast at PPH. You have the option of either ordering off the menu (cheaper) or getting the AYCE buffet. We usually eat there twice a trip and have found the character interaction and service awesome. It's the one place dh doesn't mind tipping over 20%. We prefer to do Goofy's for dinner, so it comes in 2nd after Lilo & Stitch's for breakfast.

Thanks Everyone (especially Sherry E for calling)....this helps a lot! I think we will stick w/ Goofy's since its been a great experience in the past! I am sooooo looking forward to our time at DL! The high here in WI next week is -2 degrees!

Truth be told, the Hotel Restaurants have always been a bit...off for me.

I dined at Goofy's Kitchen a while ago, and quite literally freaked out when I noticed that my meat was.....very very chewy and juicy....

It was dim, so only when I turned on my iPod to shine a light on it did I notice it was VERY pink, quite close to raw (though I admit that I'm not very good at judging, lol). When I mentioned it to them, they were very good about it, but it still ruined my appetite for the evening...

I'm not really a "this vs. that" person - but, I really enjoy the character interaction at Goofy's. It has become our tradition to go the morning of the day we fly out - a last minute infusion of pure Disney. We saw far fewer characters at Storyteller's - though seeing Timon was awesome. We only got 3 autographs there, vs. 7 or 8 at Goofy's. (btw, that vs. was a LOL at myself...)

I was just wondering what characters does one usually see at goofy's? I too am trying to decide....

I have the autograph book and pics right here -

2007 -
Mulan, Jasmine, Princess Aurora, Chip, Dale, Goofy, Pluto

2006 -
Mad Hatter, Baloo, Goofy, Pluto, Chip, Dale, Donald

The 'regulars' at Goofy's for breakfast/brunch (I only eat there for breakfast, so those are the ones I know!) are, of course, Chef Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale and Baloo. Now, they have a revolving roster of guest stars who appear, which can range from Minnie to Alice and the Mad Hatter to Aurora and the Prince to Jasmine and Aladdin to Belle, etc. In the old days, before there were so many other character meals, Goofy's used to have Rafiki and Timon, Meeko, the Beast, the Genie, Jafar, Gadget, etc. There were a bunch of them and we could never get a bite of food because so many of them came to the table. At least now we are able to eat as well as interact with characters! From what I hear, dinners may have more characters because it is busier at night and they need more of them to 'work the room.'

Storytellers has Chip and Dale (who seem to be at all the character meals) and sometimes Baloo, as well as occasionally Rafiki and Meeko and Brother Bear characters.

Thanks. That will help with my decision. We fly in late afternoon & I was thinking that the first night might be fun to do dinner. Kinda kick everything off, before the girls have a chance to hit the parks for the first time.

We had brunch @ Storyteller's last month ~ our group enjoyed it (my mom, grandma, me & my kids) DS got the buffet, DD and I split the Banana French Toast (yummy) my mom and grandma got the American Breakfast. We visited with ~ Chip & Dale, Meeko, Turk and Koda & Kenai.

We'll be having breakfast @ Goofy's in March. If we can visit with a princess or 2 and others (Mad Hatter & Alice would be great) it'll be super.
