Our First Evening
By the time we had done a bit of unpacking, it was time to head out to enjoy a meal that we were both very excited about. We were going to try out Kouzzina for the first time.
Goofy likes to watch the Iron Chef shows with me and was tickled pink to think of eating in one of the iron chefs' (Cat Cora's) own restaurants. On our walk down was a leisurely one. I had left way too much time to get there on time. It was literally less than three minutes from our room door to Kouzzina's front door. It took us about fifteen minutes to get there because of the exploring we did along the way and the detours that ensued. Not to mention the pictures I stopped to take. Here are some of my favorite pictures from our walk down to Kouzzina (which also happened to be our first time down on the Boardwalk).
Once we entered Kouzzina we were quickly seated and although I knew that the official opening was still almost two weeks away, everything seemed to be flowing very well. Our server was a sweetheart. She really went out of her way to make us feel welcome, share her menu favorites and was very attentive without hovering during our meal. Here's a picture of
Goofy waiting to order.
After placing our order, we were given a basket of multigrain bread. It was fresh, crusty and still warm. It was served with butter sprinkled with sea salt. I could have made a meal of the bread alone. It was very tasty!
I started off with the spanakopita. It's a traditional dish that I enjoyed growing up as the granddaughter of a Greek immigrant. I really enjoyed it. Phyllo dough was filled with spinach, feta, leeks and dill. It was served on a huge pile of diced tomatoes and red onions with a few scattered chopped olives and was garnished with a ring of olive oil with a few fresh herbs scattered throughout. This dish was simply mouth watering. I once again would have been happy to make a meal out of another one of Kouzzina's pre entrée offerings! It was also big enough that
Goofy and I were able to share. He picked a salad as his appetizer and although he enjoyed it, he said he liked mine more.
For
Goofy's entrée he enjoyed the kid's fish meal. He had fresh pan roasted grouper with a side of herbed orzo and green beans. He ate every single bite.
Goofy said the fish was very fresh (he would know, he's my sea food foodie) and he loved the way that it was prepared.
I enjoyed the cinnamon stewed chicken. It was very similar to a favorite family recipe and only my manners prevented me from licking the plate clean. To me, it was childhood comfort food with a bit of flair. I was very happy with my entrée choice! The chicken is stewed in tomatoes has a wonderful cinnamon flavor and is served on top of herbed orzo (very good) and topped with mazithra cheese. A very tasty dish indeed!
Dessert for
Goofy was a kid's top-your-own sundae. Of course, he loved it!
My dessert was the Loukomades. They are little mini donut type pastries glazed with honey and sprinkled with a smidge of cinnamon. It was served two dipping sauces. One was a creamy honey/vanilla and the other a raspberry based sauce. They were both very good. There was so much of this dessert that it seemed to be made to share. I took a good portion of them back to the room and we snacked on them much later that night and the next morning.
All in all, we were both very pleased with our meal and we will be bringing the rest of the family back to enjoy it with us!
After dinner we took a stroll along the boardwalk.
One of my favorite pictures from the entire trip!
Watching the sunset along the boardwalk is a beautiful way to start an evening! Even though our explorations drew our attention away from the sky and to the actual boardwalk offerings we couldn't help but glance up now and again. The sky truly was stunning.
As we were walking, we stumbled upon our first boardwalk entertainer. He was a very entertaining slight of hand artist. We both enjoyed watching his show.
