Goofy Support Group (AKA Goofy Challenge 2010)

I've just got back from training and it was great.:thumbsup2

I told my DH tahat I wanted to try to do the marathon distance but that I had to keep my speed up, so I might do less miles.

So we set off and I did the 13.1 in 1:01
26.2 in 2:08:30

My time for Boston is 2:25 so I know I can do it now.:cool1:

I am going to try to do this every other day, and hopfully I will get faster, and will not be such a wreck after!!!!

Keep training everyone.:grouphug:

8 miles at the forest preserve - done!

I really had to talk myself into putting in the miles this morning.....Jim decided he'd bow out of walking with me in order to finish painting the living room. Well, I can't complain about that! I slept in and then felt bad about leaving while Jim was working so hard, but I got out the door and put in the steps I needed to. Hopefully he will be able to go out with me next weekend when the schedule calls for 9 miles.

Getting my steps in! I'm working on fueling for the marathon. I'm thinking I'll need something more than gels and beans after 13 miles. Trying Clif Bars this week.

Last year I discovered on my 20 miler that gels didn't cut it. I'd been fine up until that distance, but suddenly my stomach felt like it had a huge hole in it and it was SCREAMING for solid food. I had pretzels and pieces of Luna bars in my pouches on my fuel belt, and still took more pretzels and oranges from WISHers along the way every chance I got! I'm pretty sure I took in the same amount of calories I burned by the end of 26 miles... :rolleyes1

Jackie

I like the Luna bars. I was glad I got to try some samples. They are easy to carry. I know someone who takes cheese/p-nut butter crackers. I just think I'd crush them if I had them with me.

Got 8 miles in Friday. Pace is all over the place, but I got the steps in nonetheless. I cleaned house so didn't do much more than that and Pilates.

Week 5 is in the books!! I went to the gym and cycled for 10 miles on Friday and then walked 10 miles Saturday. I hadn't slept well Friday night, and that really affected my 'stick-to-it' ness! That, and the fact that I didn't get out the door until 7:30. At my pace, 10 miles is 2 1/2 hours, so outside in the FL temps at 10 am, can be difficult. This day, there was absolutely NO breeze. I did 7.35 outside and finished up on the TM at the house. I can't imagine doing the double digit mileage that comes after this!! It's going to be a VERY mental war! But we'll do it, one step at a time!! ;)

Syko, FANTASTIC workouts!! I guess this means all your parts are in! You will be flying!!

Pat, way to go on getting out there by yourself! :dance3:

Kim, when you check in next, take time to mention how DS did on his first marathon!! Thinking about him (and you!) this morning!!

This next week will be an interesting one training wise. We leave Thursday for a family reunion in VA. The hotel we're at has an exercise room, but we'll see if I can get myself to it!!

Keep up the great work, everyone!!
:goodvibes Anne

I'm still with out some parts :sad2:, inclunding wheels!!!!
Hopefully I will find out on tuesday if I will be getting them in time for my races or not. Then I will have decide if i'm going to do them or not.:confused3

Hi All,
just checking in. This was to be a step back week but there was this little race in Naples so I moved my step back week until next week. Naples 20K this morning (12.45 miles for the metric challenged like me). Ran a little slow but this is the first run over 10 miles since March so I can't complain.

Got up at 4:00 a.m. and drove down. Raining almost the entire way. No rain at the site. Pretty boring run actually it is an out and back along the Gulf of Mexico. Unfortunately you really cannot see the water because of the hotels, err... actually houses but you couldn't prove it by me :)

Not too hot for Florida because of the overcast skies but humidity was 100% Everyone was soaked within the first 2 miles. Anyway, I finished. I knew I would it is just I wanted to break 2:00. Finished in 1:58:25 but I was beat! I'm OK with my time this early in training.

Heck by the time we all get to the end of our training this would be just a step back week :)

enjoy all,
Duane

Wow, Duane! Congrats!!!

Enjoyed my training free day today! I did 3 hours of yard work!!

Brand new week coming up!!
:goodvibes Anne

Ooooh, darn! I typed up a report on my training, commented to quite a few of you and when I clicked on Submit Reply, my post went *poof*. :(

Rather than re-composing, I'll just put it all in a nutshell:

  1. Welcome new Goofy participants. We're all Goofy here!
  2. Sounds like everyone is doing well with the training! Mine - not as well as most of you. Doing just *OK* on the long runs on the weekend, not so well during the weekday! :guilty:
  3. Did a 50-mile bike ride yesterday. Walked 7 miles today (supposed to do 8 :rolleyes1).
  4. On tap for next weekend - 5-miler on Friday, 10-miler on Saturday with a friend (in prep for a half-marathon on Oct. 26).
  5. Have events planned for 4/5 weekends in October. Since I normally don't have anyone locally that I can train with, I'm relying on these events to help me prepare for Goofy.

Pat - awesome job on the training! I won't be able to keep up with you.

Diane - you've already done a 15-mile run? WOW! Cindy says "hi"! She and Fred are going to Hong Kong over Thanksgiving and Paris for Christmas....and she's training for Goofy!

Anne - sounds like you are doing a bang-up job as well! Keep up the good work!

Lily - sounds like you are feeling better now! My pace is all over the place as well.

syko - keeping my fingers crossed for all parts and wheels to come in pronto!

Richard - congrats on your charity ride! I'd like to do that ride (Austin) someday. I wanted to do 62 miles yesterday but the person I was riding with didn't feel up to it.

Debra - congrats to the Dood on his 50K! Sounds like a rough course. Yikes!

Jackie - when I did the WDW full a couple of years ago, I remember feeling intense hunger in the 2nd half. When we passed that McDonalds along the route, I so desperately wanted to jump the bridge to get to it. :teeth:

Duane - good job on the run this weekend ... especially with the 100% humidity. :crazy2:

Sarah - Hope you are feeling better now. How scary!

Hope everyone has a productive, safe, injury-free week! Good job, everyone! :cheer2:

Thanks Anne. DS did really good. He did not train at all.....a few jogs on the TM that was it but finished great. He got a side cramp with about 2K to go, walked a bit then ran in the last 500M. He finished in 5:49:19 with only a few blisters on his toes. We will see how he feels today.

I was a mess, I was so scared, I have never even been that nervious before one of my own races and on top of it the alerts I signed up for didn't come through so had no idea where he was.

Kim

Had a very easy weekend. Did 6+ miles yesterday. Taking today off, running 3-4 miles tomorrow, nothing Wed/Thurs, 2 miles Friday, and then Saturday is showtime.

Interested to see just what my recovery time will be like... as I have another marathon four weeks after :)

I need to schedule some time to catch up with everyone, but I'm posting this in case you read the email subscriptions instead of the boards....forgive the cross-posting!

7-for-4 or 7-for-5 Package Offer for November 2009 - March 2010

Now you can purchase a fantastic buy 4, get 7 or buy 5, get 7 vacation package offer valid for stays November 1 - December 24, 2009 through January 3 - March 27, 2010.

Here are the details:

Buy a 4-night/4 day vacation package at a MODERATE, DELUXE or DELUXE VILLA resort, get a 7-night/7-day package. That's 3 FREE hotel nights and 3 extra days on your theme park admission tickets, equivalent to a 43% discount on your room and tickets! You must buy a package that includes at least 4 nights' accommodations at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel plus minimum 4-day Magic Your Way Base Tickets to qualify for the 3 FREE nights and the 3 extra days on your tickets.

Buy a 5-night/5 day vacation package at a VALUE resort, get a 7-night/7-day package. That's 2 FREE hotel nights and 2 extra days on your theme park admission tickets, equivalent to a 29% discount on your room and tickets! You must buy a package that includes at least 5 nights' accommodations at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel plus minimum 5-day Magic Your Way Base Tickets to qualify for the 2 FREE nights and the 2 extra days on your tickets.

Extra days on a ticket don't cost that much, so the primary savings are on the hotel room portion, so the higher category hotels offer the most total savings.

To calculate your approximate savings on a "buy 4, get 7" package at a Moderate, Deluxe or Deluxe Villa resort:

  • Multiply the room rate (2009 or 2010) times 3 (savings of 3 nights' room rate).
  • Add $9.58 per person (ticket savings for the 3 extra days).
  • The total is your savings.

To calculate your approximate savings on a "buy 5, get 7" package at a Value resort:

Multiply the room rate (2009 or 2010) times 2 (savings of 2 nights' room rate).
  • Add $6.39 per person (approx ticket savings for the 2 extra days).
  • The total is your savings.
  • You can stay longer than 7 nights (up to 10 nights) with this package, but there is a maximum of 3 free nights and 3 extra days per ticket, per stay, if you will be staying in a Moderate, Deluxe or Deluxe Villa resort, or 2 free nights and 2 extra days per ticket, per stay, if you will be staying in a Value resort.

You can stay less than 7 nights, but you still must purchase 4 nights at a Moderate, Deluxe or Deluxe Villa resort, or 5 nights at a Value resort, so you'll end up with fewer free nights/extra days. The minimum total stay to make this offer worthwhile at all would be 5 nights at a Moderate, Deluxe or Deluxe Villa resort, or 6 nights at a Value resort. Obviously a 7-night stay is the best deal!

You can add the Quick Service Dining Plan for 2009 or 2010, the regular Dining Plan for 2009 or 2010, or the Deluxe Dining Plan for 2009 or 2010, but you will pay full price for your dining plan (no free days of dining).

The package includes standard Magic Your Way Base Tickets. You can upgrade them with the Park Hopper, Water Parks & More and/or No Expiration option(s), but you'll pay the regular price for those upgrades.

This offer cannot be applied to the Premium or Platinum packages or to "split stays" (for example, 4 nights at one hotel, 3 nights at another).

You must book this special package by 12/20/09.

W6D1 DONE!! 45 minutes on the TM, 20 of ST.

Kim, glad your DS finished!! That's terrible that the alerts didn't work!! I'm sure you were one frustrated mom!! :headache:

Susie, :wave2: Now that I've been cycling..I'm even more amazed at you doing 50 miles out on the roads!! I have a hard enough time on a stationary bike..I can't imagine dealing with other cyclists, traffic or variations in the road!!
timmac, you're doing great! Looking forward to your race report!!

Respect those miles!!

:goodvibes Anne

Congrats to all on being so good about your training! Keep it up, team!

I took the weekend off. Saturday was a planned rest day and I was glad for it since I was feeling achy and run down. The plan was for 6 miles on the TM last night (other obligations early in the day). Well, I was still feeling achy and run down last night...so I skipped it.

Feeling much better today. 30 mins with the PT followed by an hour on the elliptical. Hopefully back on the TM tomorrow. Off to Disney on Wednesday, so, training will be a bit sketchy for a week. I'll be back a day, then head out for my 3-day 60 mile breast cancer walk in DC. I guess I should take it easy a bit going into that.

Christine - Have fun at Disney and good luck on your upcoming charity walk. Can't wait to hear all about it. I'd like to do that someday.

Anne - Doing 50 miles at an event is not bad at all. The event I did the other day was very well organized and there were plenty of cops blocking major intersections for us. Plus, the rest stops were like mini-parties. Very well set-up. I love these bike events! By the way, we passed a couple of pawn shops along the route. Both had lots of bikes for sale outside. This may be another option for you if you haven't purchased a bike yet. Keep up the good work on your training. See you in a few weeks!

timmac - Good luck for your upcoming marathon races! Whew!

Kim - congrats to your son! I guess only the young can get by without training as hard, huh? Ha! Glad he was able to do well.

Reporting in: W6(!!)D1 Goofy training.

55 min TM and 20 min ST done.

Hi team! Time is flying by so fast.....

Thanks everyone, I am very proud of DS.

I think I am hitting the pool for training tonight, heel is a bit tender and horrible shin splints last night so run the pool.

Have a great day all.

Kim
