Goofy Support Group (AKA Goofy Challenge 2010)

Hello everyone! Just stopping in with a little announcement:

If anyone missed out on the WISH shirt order, why not get a hat or visor to show your WiSH racing team pride?!!! Please see the link in my siggy below. I need a min of 36 items and I have 17 so far.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.....

I'm in! This will be my third Goofy... I seem to be alternating years, I did the first and third years they offered it. I'm planning 1:55 for the half and anything sub-4 for the full. Between now and then I'm doing the Lewis and Clark Marathon on Sept 13, Chicago Marathon on Oct 11, either a 50k or 50 miler in late October, and maybe a local marathon in late November. I can't wait to get back to Disney!

Welcome rtroeh!

Looks like a pretty busy race schedule for you. Do you use a particular training program?

I'm just coming back from a broken ankle in May. I started in on Pfitzinger's 18/70 program but really did not like the structure, so I am back to my own thing... alternating weekends of mid-long (12 - 16 miles) and long runs (>16 miles) and 2 of the 3 of tempo run, speed work and hills every week, but no set schedule. Whatever grabs me on that day. I add a couple more easy runs so usually hit about 50 mpw.

Does anyone know what kind of timing device they'll be using this year? Championchip? D-ring?

No more chips now; I think the last chip race was the inaugural Princess Half. I guess it will be the D-ring.

I hope fellow Wishers have a very fun race at DL - wish I was there :lovestruc

DH and I got our six miler in today and it rained on us the entire time, We were sopping wet after the first mile so I know we are real runners to stay out there!!

4 yesterday, 8 today for me this weekend. I'm wondering why I ever registered for Goofy when I'm struggling to finish 8 at a way slower than normal pace. Is it fall yet?

Lots going on this weekend...teammates in DL for the half, Va Beach for RnR and at WDW for the Trek Triathlon. Go WISH!

Mel:hug: you are going to do great. We have a awesome team of WISHer's that will get everyone across that finish line and regardless of a PR or a "to finish" all are a success as we will all be strutting.....yes I said it....strutting our way around disney flashing the BLING!!!!! We are all going to have bad training days and days when we feel no one can stop us.

I have decided to use Terry Fox as my inspiration. He was a Canadian who while fighting cancer and running on 1 leg did a marathon a day for 143 days.

Have a good one all!!!!

I'm back from DL half. Goofy training is working for me. I'm considering a trip to Erie, PA to do a half this weekend. Will monitor the weather, but I think I can do this! I am excited about getting back to a good routine.

Happy training Goofy people!

Lily you all ROCKED! I managed to look up those of you I knew to see your time and :woohoo::woohoo: Those were amazing times!!! Good luck with PA if you decide to do it this weekend!!!

MEL!!! You can do it!!! It will come! Both fall and the pace! Though I sure hope fall arrives soon so the pace will come down faster. Yesterday's humidity was icky, not as bad as it has been on other days but still. I am with you, can't wait for fall temps! Think positive!!!

I did a 15 mile last Thursday in 3 hrs 40 min and some, think it was an avg 14:41 pace. I did a 6 mile yesterday at a 14:04 pace. I'm at work and trying to remember these things but I think I did it in 1 hr and just under 25 minutes. :teacher: (i need a smiley counting his fingers and toes!) Tonight is the gym.

Still having moments of freaking out. I swear I was breathing harder yesterday due to worries and not due to the actual phyiscal labor LOL

CHRIS! I posted!

Welcome to those that have recently joined the thread!!! :flower3:

Finally found my WISH visor so if we luck out and it's chilly and I'm all bundled I will still be sporting WISH wear :thumbsup2

Reportin in: W3D3 Goofy training

60 min aqua-fit class - DONE!

Since I shared my very first race character picture from DL last year (the rat) I thought I'd let everyone know that this year I managed to upgrade to.......

an insect!

I did have a couple of celebrity sightings, Dr Morris from ER in DTD, and JimBob Walton performing in DCA.

Great pictures! This was the first year I took a camera out with me. It was a lot of fun. I sacrificed some minutes on my overall time, but it was well worth it. It was great to see you and Ann out on the course. I'll see you at RFTT!!

Morning Goofy's,

Haven't got to post much, but I have been reading. Up to 11 miles now on the weekends and my back to backs have been a 4 or 5 and then 10 or 11 the next day. I'm further ahead of last year as my back to backs hadn't started yet. My "racing" season is finally close. Haven't done one since early May so I'm ready to get going.

Hope everyone is having some great training!

Pat - Love the pictures and congrats!

Diane - I "SEE" you. :3dglasses
You will be fine so don't panic....Yet :rotfl:

Everyone else.....:wave2:

Chris, just noticed your ticker. I will be there 9/30-10/5. Staying at Pop.

Monday was the first official day of Goofy Training. Did a tempo 5 miles and about died. Went out at 9:00 a.m. and it was brutally hot and humid. Should have just done a "normal" run. But I was reading about tempo runs so I thought what the heck.

Tuesday night at softball I fell flat on my face running the bases. Not much of an excuse, just fell. Anyway all is fine but bruised my ribs. Boy do they hurt. Two days later it still hurts to breath but getting better.

So I missed my second official training run on Wednesday. Used ice instead :)

I'll be fine. Will attempt to do my 5 Friday night with a 10 or 11 on Saturday. Getting ready for the 20K in Naples in a few weeks.

hang in there all,
Duane

Hi everyone!!

Popping in to say been doing ok here. Hurt my back last month and somehow keep aggravating it so some of my training has gotten sidelined. Good news is after last night's walk it was only a little sore and is fine today.

I've got my plan all set, couple of events along the way in the fall to keep it interesting. Good to go!

Keep up the great work!!
