Goofy Support Group (AKA Goofy Challenge 2010)

Hi Everyone,

Texa: I don't follow HH, so I don't have a midweek LR. My plan has 1 speed workout, 1 tempo, 1 LR and 1 SR. I often skip the SR because of time/family constraints. For XT I am swimming twice a week and occasionally doing a Jillian Michael's DVD. Good luck figuring your schedule out.

Diane: Good job getting the training in.

Pat: Nice job with your consistent training.

Christine: I hope the leg presses help with your pace.

Richard: Good luck with the charity ride.

Sarah: Sorry to hear about your accident. Thank goodness you are OK.

Duane: Sorry to hear about your accident. I hope week 2 of training goes a little better.

Tricia: Good luck finding your motivation. Think of the kids from the charity you are running for, maybe that will help.

My Fall marathon is just 5 weeks away, then the real Goofy training will begin. The running is going pretty well. I ran 18 on Friday and felt pretty good. I'm still trying to be better about eating healthier. I find I'm ravenous after a LR, and I'm usually craving junk instead of something good for me. I have to learn not to give in to the cravings. I can hardly expect my body to perform fabulously when I'm not giving it fabulous food.

I hope everyone's training is going well.
Cindy

Hey Everyone!

Quick Goofy Check in for me...

Wednesday - 4
Thursday - 4
Friday - 8 (Went to a park with Hills so felt like 15) I normally do 40-50 feet of climbing according to my phone dealio, but this said I did 230. Ugh....
Saturday - REST
Sunday - 5
Monday - 4 plus 3 walking at lunch
Tuesday - 3.5 plus 1.5 Miles at lunch.

Tomorrow - Rest

Sorry I've been AWOL, but I've had my girls a ton by myself and all the running has well made my on-line fun time low. Preparing for Vacation is also adding to all this....

Keep it up Goofy's!!!

Reporting in: W4D2 Goofy training

well... my schedule called for 40 min of biking at the gym, but I met my DD's MIL for supper and then wanted to get home to see the Biggest Loser season opener, so I walked on the TM for 70 min while watching the show instead.

Pat--I TM'd during BL as well!! I am glad to see Daniel back. And how touching that he picked Shay for his teammate.

I went to the gym to do leg presses after work yesterday. Between the TM and the presses I felt a bit sore, so I took a cold soak after the TM and feel fine this morning. :goodvibes Other than working with the trainer today, I think it will be a rest day--meaning no cardio. I like Chris's idea of walking at lunchtime. Maybe I will go for a stroll.

Good idea, maybe I will TM through Biggest Loser. I hate the TM but maybe watching these people work hard will motivate me also.

I DID manage to drag my wretched body to the dead center of the gym last night or rather at least the dead center of the TM section  Did 3 miles jogging away. Though that might not have been the BEST idea of the week since I did leg curls/raises on the machines on Monday (only 1 set!) and was feeling a bit sore yesterday but the jogging seemed fine, but afterwards I SHOULD have jumped in ice

But I am pleased as punch that I did a 3 miler jog again. I walked the 1st minute so it made my average a 13:17. Should have put the Ipod on 1st then started the machine. Cost me seconds! Geesh! :rotfl2:

Anyways I didn't notice that Biggest Loser was on till I was getting off the TM, I had been watching Ace of Cakes on the other channel. Actually listening to music just guessing on the shows LOL I am so bummed I missed the BL opener. I did see Danield and his team mate get on the scales and it went to commercial as I was leaving the gym.

I'm finding if I get to the gym before close on Tuesdays (open late!) and Friday afternoons I have a chance at having the TM to myself for up to an hour or more if I want it :thumbsup2

Happy training!!!

Do you have room for another Goofy-goer? I could really use the motivation and understanding of others taking on the same challenge. Everyone in my life thinks I have gone completely insane  It's nice to know that I am in good company here :)

This will be my 2nd Goofy. I am planning on finishing the half in 2:30 and the full anywhere between 5:00 - 5:30. Actually, just finishing will make me plenty happy!

Training starts today for me, as I have just wound down training for the DL Half. Well, actually training should have started Monday for me, but my employer had other plans. I have 4 easy miles slated for tonight's kickoff.

Happy Training everyone!

Tricia:  I know exactly how you feel. I'm going through a bit of a lull right now, as I'm experiencing some pain. Sometime a little break, or mixing it up with the schedule and XT, can help. And the incentive of the medals help, too.

Say, maybe some of our Goofy participants/photographers have a few motivational photos for us? Hint, hint. ;) After all, I found Pat's photos very uplifting!

Pat: Great pace with your races! I hadn't thought about watching BL while working out, but I bet that Jillian would knock all of my excuses out of me, at least because I'd feel guilty by association. :thumbsup2

Duane: You've had a rough start with training, but I love reading how you're planning to overcome the early setbacks with the rib belt. I can't believe you ran through the pain. :worship:

Sarah: Oh, no! :scared1: I'm glad it wasn't worse, but how very scary and painful nonetheless. I'm sorry to hear about your coverage and that your Hawaii plans have changed. But you and DH have certainly managed to find the silver lining with the Disney trip being extended. I'd love to see you wear the bride/groom ears on the course. :goodvibes

Richard: I hope you keep us up to date with the b2b ride/run and how that works for both your IM and the Goofy training. Inquiring minds want to know as the variety appeals to me! The unexpected longer run to stay with a running partner? Not so much. :lmao:

Christine: Wow, it looks like you have quite a comprehensive plan down for both your breast cancer walk and the Goofy. I'm sure the variety in the TM workouts and the strength training helps. And thank you for the information on the leg press! :thumbsup2

Diane: Wow, you're already at 16 miles as part of your b2b. Most excellent! You're making me feel (and look) like such a slacker. Yay for dragging yourself to the dead center of the TM--double --and hitting that excellent pace.

Tina: I'm not doing a Higdon plan, in part because I don't have the time (at my pace) to hit those miles. Getting out there regularly midweek for quality runs--speed, tempo, hill, as Cindy suggests--might be a good option. At least it's the pattern I'm following. For XT, I bike, do Pilates, circuit train, and am trying to work in some yoga and rowing.

Cindy:
I can hardly expect my body to perform fabulously when I'm not giving it fabulous food.
I love this!

Chris: Nice job, especially with the hills! (They do make runs seem longer, don't they?) You're getting in tons of good pavement time.

Knees: Welcome! The more the merrier. Like you, this is my second Goofy. I couldn't resist the anniversary medal.

As for me: Well, I managed to get 10.5/12 miles on my LR this weekend. I stopped while I still had any quality, loosely defined, in my run. I haven't done my midweek runs (despite my advice, above) because of some slight pain in my leg. I've substituted XT instead. It's strange how hard it is NOT to run, and I've been experiencing some guilt even though I know it's the smart thing to do. Anyway, this weekend is a cutback week--3/6--and I hope the mileage will be light enough to let me ease back into my schedule.

Hello, Team Mates!

DK, what is this pain of which you speak??!!

Diane, WOW!! I won't be seeing much of you on the courses at that pace!!

I Tivo'd BL and watched it this morning. I was going to take today off, but I said if I wanted to watch BL, I had to be on the TM. Turned out to be a good deal. Except when it got to the part where Daniel did a 14:17 mile!! I've been doing this for 3 years and can't do a 14:17 mile (unless it's downhill)!! Had to call Pat and get a pep talk...:cutie: My DD did say that Daniel probably could not have done 13.1, so that made me feel a little better!

:welcome: Knees and Texa!!

Sarah and Duane please be careful with your training!!

IMGONNABE40, thanks for the tip about the leg press. Just got introduced to that one at the gym before DL. Didn't want to do too much with it right before the half! But will put it into the mix now!!

Lunges and squats are what's killing my quads right now. I keep telling myself that these exercises will pay off big time in January.

Keep up the good work, everyone!!

:goodvibes Anne

60 min aqua-fit class - done!

Hang in there everyone!

It's been about 4 months but..........I trained today:yay::woohoo:

The shop told me that I still need to replace 2 parts before a race, but it was OK to train. :cool1:

We went out on to the trail, the temp was 100, and we did 28 miles in 2:52. 26.2 in 2:40, 20 mins slower than before the crash.

Not a good time, i'm hoping its just because its been so long.
I was really struggling and a couple of times I thought about hanging onto the back of my DD trailer and getting a tow......but I didn't.

I also wore shoes for the first time (new rules) and I did not like it, but I got to get used to it.

The next couple of days I will just go around town, about 18 miles, then try a new trail on sat, and then the one today on sun, as long as the chair holds!!!

I will call the makers of the chair tomorrow and ask if they can get me the parts I need in time.

I'm still waiting for a bumper bar and new wheels, i'm hoping there be ready soon.

Good morning!

Glad to hear you are able to train again, Syco. Did you notice a difference without the missing parts? Do all those links in your signature mean you have more sponsors? Does that help with the repair costs? (Not that its my business!)

No cardio yesterday, just 30 minutes with the trainer. He took me into the "big boy" section of the gym to use the leg press over there. Not the wimpy circuit training machine--nope, this one we had to use plates!! I guess I did well with the 90 pounds--I feel fine this morning. Hoping to do 6 miles later.

The links are companys that are sponsoring me, some are full sponsorship others a % discount.

The parts I still need to replace could fail at anytime, thats why there said not to race until replaced, but theres no difference to how the chair feels.

I just need to get my body back in to it, four months off is way too long.

Great getting back into it, Syko!! :thumbsup2

IGB40 (I got tired of typing all of that!! LOL!), I was at the gym today watching a guy using that machine! Someday, I'll be over there!! I was quite happy with the leg sled today implementing those moves you suggested.

Goofy training W4D4 done. Spent time at the gym on the machines. Tomorrow, Ill be back to get the cycling done.

We WILL do this!! Go, Team!! :yay:

50 min TM and 20 ST done!

I don't know where the week has gone, but it has flown by. I've caught up on everyone's postings I think, but I'm just too pooped to respond.....I'm thinking of you all though as we head towards our big adventure in January.

Hey you Goofys! I sure hope we're still having fun! I took off a couple of days and just did Pilates. I'm back at this and look forward to my weekend schedule of 6 miles. I think the miles will be just the thing I need.

Not much to report. I'm taking some time off to nurse my injured arm and my cold. Ugh. Did get in 5 really slow miles on Tuesday (running is jostling my shoulder so I'm trying to walk as much as I can) and 75 minutes yoga yesterday. I talked to my fantastic instructor before the class and she made it a legs and core class, so I could do almost everything. I had 3 miles on schedule for today, but I was feeling so blah from my cold that I decided to just take a nap instead. :goodvibes

Let's hope that next week goes better than this one!

You can just call me Christine--although that is a lot of letters too!!

Hope you feel better, Sarah. Make sure you get the rest you need or this cold and injury of yours may hang on for a while.

Way to go with your training Anne (that is my middle name--with an e just like yours) !!

Got my 6 miles on the TM in yesterday--hoping to do another 6 today, or perhaps a trip to the gym to use the elliptical...

Anne: Pat is spot on. It's one thing to do a fast mile (didn't see BL, so don't know how far he went) it's another thing to hit a consistent pace, mile after mile, for 13.1. And might I add, for multiple races!!! :cool1:

DK, what is this pain of which you speak??!!

It's ankle pain that leads up into the calf. It's not a problem when I run, but afterwards. After Saturday's LR, I was limping on Sunday and Monday. The way I looked hobbling up the street just added insult to the injury. :rotfl2: After doing XT instead of running for a couple of days, the pain is gone and I was able to run today.
Must. Prioritize. Stretching.

Kirstie-Louise: Woo hoo! Congratulations on training! I'm sure you'll get up to your previous speed in no time. Why shoes? (I'm just curious as I know so little.)

Christine: Yay for the "big-boy machines!" :lmao: And congrats on your 6 miles. (Plus a double-dip workout. Wow. :worship:)

Sarah: I'm so glad you're healing and were able to do your fitness class. Great instructor, btw! :woohoo:

As for me: First run since last Saturday's LR and substuting XT for my midweek runs. 6 miles. No leg pain afterwards, which is what I was hoping for. Yeah! But I was so out of breath the whole time I couldn't believe it. Wow. The pace suffered, but I got it done. Tomorrow I do 3 miles. I'm inverting my runs this weekend because DOOD's first ultra is tomorrow and I want to be there to cheer him on. It's tough course, as he has to loop the course three times. :cheer2:
