Goofy Support Group (AKA Goofy Challenge 2010)

I dilute the water/gatorade during long distances. Take cup of water, small sip or pour little out then take cup of gatorade and pour it into the water. For me this works better as the straight gatorade starts to give me indigestion. During long training runs I always make sure to dilute one of my bottles same way.

Also love the sport beans and Sharkies just remember you have to take in water with those.

Yikes, Diane...sounds like quite a storm! yeah...not sure what WDW was thinking putting me in Corral A. Doubt I'll ever see that again!

I've been working on Higdon's spring training also. I llike the program a lot, but I did cut out one of the running days when I started swim class.

I did 3.1 miles tonight. Plotted out my training which starts mid-August. After tonight's slow, slimy run, I'm thinking this Goofy thing was a bad idea. Any chance they'll deny my registration?

I'm thinking about training with Powerade instead of Gu this time. I've never really found anything I truly like. During the full, I got to a point at the end where I couldn't put anything in my mouth...no Gu or water...maybe Powerade throughout would help.

Mel, I don't like, gatoraid or poweraid.
I use Cliff Electrolyte Lemonade flavor.
I get it in 2lbs tubs and you can mix it to what ever strenghth you like.
I know it comes in different flavors, but I didn't fancy them.
Might be worth a try??

Hello all. I guess you can say I am in pre-training. My first 1/2 was the Princess back in March. I starting training for that back in September. After the Princess, I decided to sign up for the Flying Pig full here in Cinci. So, I just continued my training. 2 weeks before the Pig I did a 4 day 100 mile walk from Cinci to Columbus, Ohio.

Since the Pig (May 3) I have not done a lot. I traveled for 3 weeks. I did some hiking and mountain climbing on my trip, and the 3d week the hotel had a nice fitness facility so I was on the treadmill 5 of my 6 days there.

I'm back on the treadmill at home, and have joined a gym to get in a bit of cross training--elliptical, bike and pilates, I hope. In early Oct. I have a 3 day, 60 mile walk.

I guess I should look at a training plan. I am a walker, and throw in a bit of running. I did the Princess in about 2:35 and the full Pig in 6:45. I'd like to do better than 6:45 on the full, but will likely slow down my half pace a bit. (Times on both were in part due to people I was with)

So, other than my 3 day walk, I have to say I am not jazzed about doing back to back long mileage for my training. Only thing about the 3-day is that I know my pace won't be WDW 3.5/7 time.

I figure my training will look like this:
3 days a week at home on TM 75-90 mins
2 days a week cross training at gym
1 long walk per week (2-4 hours) at the local cemetery.

Any thoughts?

Christine: I think your plan sounds reasonable. Just listen to your body. I know my body needs a lot of rest. If you seem to be too tired at the start of one of your workouts, maybe you'll need to add another rest day in.

Christine is that a wise place to do your GOOFY training?!?!? :lmao: Course my favorite and lucky number is 13 (ever since starting to do Half Marathons) LOL

I like your plan! With everyone writing their plans down I started a serious one yesterday, been meaning to do that. I've never put it in writing before. :)

Yes, I know it is an interesting place to train! I did my outdoor training for the Princess there as well. There are measured trails, so that makes it quite easy...well, can't say all the hills are easy!!

Add me to the list of those who've taken the leap...

DH (Bill) and I are going Goofy - first time for both of us!

I'm going to be optimistic and say 3:00 Half and 6:00 Marathon. Maybe, just maybe, that will change after the Richmond Marathon, but my plan is to just enjoy the entire Goofy experience, since I've done both the Donald and the Mickey already and I'd like to be able to walk on Monday.

Jackie

Jackie...those are the times I'm shooting for as well. I'm thinking I can PR the marathon just by finishing since my first attempt was nearly 7 hours ;)

I added in a mile run today to start slowly with the B2B. I had 5.5 on my schedule for tomorrow (Higdon's spring training), so I'm flexing some to today, then I'll do 5 tomorrow.

I haven't received any confirmation of my registration upgrade. Maybe it got lost in the mail and I won't have to do this after all? :thumbsup2

Mel - My first one was 6:58:30, so I figure this one HAS to be faster! But I blame all of it on DH, since Debra and I were on track for a 6:00 until we slowed down to walk with him when he cramped at mile 16. I'm hoping Richmond will be my PR, and don't actually expect to beat it in January, but who knows?

:goodvibes I sent in my Goofy upgrade on June 19th, and didn't get confirmation from Disney Sports until Monday (the 29th) of this week. So, they're fast, but it still takes at least a full week. Also, you won't be able view your full confirmation through the normal way, but will have to email Disney Sports for them to send it to you. :thumbsup2

I'm aiming for 5:30 for the full marathon.... we'll see what happens. At least I'll have my speedy DH with me for that one, and I always end up running faster when I'm racing with him! Which is why I'm incredibly glad that I'm running the half alone. :rotfl:

Hey everyone!!!!

How is training going? I can not believe how many of us picked this year to do Goofy!!! This is so awesome!!!!!

Going to the DR this morning to get my heel checked just to make sure there isn't anything wrong with the heel bone itself and will continue to increase the milage slowly.

6 months today I will be starting my trek south!!:yay::scared1:

6 months?!!

I am thinking about working with a personal trainer. Has anyone done this? I'm thinking about 2x/wk. My goal with a trainer would be to strengthen my core and reduce body fat by 2-3%. My thought is to start in August and stick with it until Jan. then reevaluate whether I want to continue.

Hi, fellow goofs! I will be going Goofy for the 2nd time in 2010, and my goal is to, um, finish. I'll set more definite goals when it gets a little closer, but beating the sweepers and not breaking down into a sobbing heap of defeat works for me for now.

Btw, just got back from a bonus trip to wdw (we got APs and I noticed a free week rigth after school ended, so i loaded up my sons and roadtripped down there for some r&r) and as I was walking around, I was definiitely having flashbacks to my last Goofy and getting some pretty bad nerves (though I also flashed back to all the great WISHers along the way!) and had my first Goofy nightmare while i was there. So a support group of some type sound pretty good to me!

Happy training, goofs!

I've used a PT but only 1X/wk. I found it a very worthwhile experience. There's something good to be said about another person analyzing and pushing your limits.

Agreed! I used a PT 1x/wk training for the 2008 Marathon. I think I had it for 2 months. I had wanted to do it again while training for the Goofy but can't afford it this year but also know that I won't suffer for not using one. I used the trainer that year more because I wanted to learn as much as I could. I had only been going to a gym for 2 months before getting the trainer so was very new to the whole gym experience :) If you don't use one it's not a biggie but like Lily said it is nice to sometimes have someone push you. My DH is pushing me now so all is good. Important is to work on those core muscles (which i need to do again).

MEL!!! Your not getting out of it that easily now that you sent your registration in. If it comes it to it we will call them! Never fear we have your back on this :thumbsup2 If we must suffer so must you :lmao:

My training over the holiday wasn't as good as I had wished. I didn't feel good on the 4th so lost a whole training day. But good news is my Thurs while short was speedy and my Sunday 6 miles ended in running the final mile (all but maybe 10 ft, took a breather waiting for the road to clear ahead).

I have my bike tires all filled now I just need to get it out on Tuesday mornings thanks to Jeff reminding me how good the bike is for training :)

Kim? Your ticker says less than 6 months!?!?!? OMG! :scared1: I knew it was but still seeing those tickers :scared:

Happy Training everyone!!!!

Thanks for the input on the PT. I do want to strengthen my core. I went to a pilates class last week and realized just how weak my core is!! I also think a PT would be helpful in learning how to use the equipment and proper technique so I don't hurt myself. That might be worth the investment right there!!

Hope everyone is doing well with their training!

Sorry to hijack your thread, but I came over here so I could personally thank Diane for patronizing a certain MI restaurant chain....it must have helped because she finally got the ring!!!!!! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

I guess this is the happening thread.....and I'm not a part of it! :sad2:
Is it OK if I lurk? I promise to be part of the ever-shrinking Scream-Team for you guys.

I promise to be part of the ever-shrinking Scream-Team for you guys.
LOL That cracked me up! What do we expect? they dangle an Anniv medal in front of us & Susie is plotting a WISH takeover on the Goofy but of course it's shrinking! LMBO Sure you can lurk and not-so-lurk! Heck I am not-so-quiet over on the Volunteer/support thread :lmao:

YAY!!!!!!!!! She got the bling :bride:!!!!! Wooohoooo!!!! Congrats Jeanne!!! Anything for a friend! I'll just be at the park tomorrow running off that meal :lmao:

So Jeanne? When are you coming to the crazy :crazy2: side? Susie? You need to work on jeanne next ;) No one is safe Mwah-ha-ha-ha :maleficen
