So I went to the mall with my sister today and ended up getting a new pair of shoes. I LOVE them - again so not in the budget but I figured with my hip already hurting and my previous issues with my arch I don't want to take a chance at hurting myself by using blown out shoes. My normal running store usually only gets one color of my style Asics even though they make 2 usually. I have countless number of blue striped shoes and since I went to a different running store this time I was able to get ones with pink stripes and an cool pink pattern. I love pink!! Going to try them out on my 20 miler tomorrow. They feel really good on my feet. Guess I better get to bed so I can wake up early and do the 20 miler so I am not running all day. Ugh so not looking forward to this....
Not only did I get my 20 miler in yesterday, I bumped it up to 22!My average pace was 12:14 per mile. I feel good today. I took a cold soak followed by putting on heat rub and compression tights. I probably won't do the TM today, but maybe the elliptical...
I think I have a new race day strategy--seemed to work for me yesterday. I start each mile with a run, then walk the rest of the mile. So, yesterday, I made sure that my Garmin was telling me my average pace had gone under 12minutes before I started walking. The downside is that as the miles get higher, it takes longer to get under 12... I may have to break the marathon into laps in order to make this work... Thoughts?
Hope everyone else did well with their distances this weekend.
Tricia, sorry to hear about the shoe issues. Glad you were home so you could work out the kinks before marathon weekend.
This is not too different than I do---That is set the Garmie for one mile laps. JUST make sure to change you view so you and averge pace in one of the windows. I think you will fand that most of us lose pace as the miles increase
One thing to watch out for - your Garmie will start to not line up well with mile markers. It depends on how well you follow the tangents of the course, how many potty staops you make and how much zigging or zagging you do. It's not uncommon to be a half mile off near the end. Just stick with your Garmie for the intervals and you will be fine.
OR do not program the one mile laps into the Garmie and just remember to hit lap at each mile mark.
Just found this forum. Wish I found it when I first started training for the Goofy. This was suppose to be the last of the long runs (10/20), but DC got hit with the blizzard and we got about 20" of snow (which is still on the ground). Running outside is suicide. Since the sidewalks are still covered with accumalated snow, the only option is to run on the road. Many roads are barely cleared out for 2 cars to pass. Also with all the ice (and black ice) there's a lot of cars sliding all over the place. I chock it up to that we don't get a lot of snow here and many people believe 4-wheel drive mistakenly equates to 4-wheel stop and continue to drive like it's dry pavement.
I tried to run on the TM on the 19th and barely got in 2 miles. I even put on Lord of the Rings thinking a long movie would take my mind of the "stop" button. Not sure how others do 20. Anyway since the high temps up here are about 35 degrees and the chances of snow melting is slim are there any suggestions on how to continue training?
