Goofy Gurus: What do you think about going to a park to eat after the half?

My TNT coaches are telling me not to because they think I have no will power and will stay and play. I bought a two day ticket because I want to go to Epcot after the full so I was thinking I could hop in the park for a couple hours on Saturday. It seems criminal to go to WDW two years in a row and not ride the RNR Coaster.

Now I am having second thoughts. What should I do?

you are brave! LOL

I am only doing the full. we ahve a full day at the MK planned for Sat. and I am concerned about taking it easy. I ahve already told my DH that he and my DD ar eon their own for SUnday as I KNOW I will not be interested in parks or doing much of anything other than taking a LONG nap and laying by the pool or in the hot tub.....

I want to know too! I know people say it's good to walk, but how do you know when you really need to stop? :rolleyes1

I haven't done the Goofy before, but we spent the day at the parks before ToT. I wasn't too concerned because DD and I were walking the 6.5k race. We took it pretty easy (compared to my usual Disney madness). My feet still were kind of achy by race time. That surprised me. :scared1:

I think we'll hit Epcot in the early afternoon, with an emphasis on the countries (lots of sitting, people watching). Maybe we'll hit the pool afterwards... OMG, have to pack a bathing suit and something to wear for the non-running portions of this trip...

Glad I don't have one of those high-pressure Mentor shirts! :lmao:

We headed to MGM after the half last year in order to eat an early dinner at Mama Melrose. We even drove to the park, so we had to walk extra distance across the parking lot to get to the front gates. After dinner, Krista’s parents stuck around MGM, but she and I headed back to the room to get to bed early. I, too, was worried about walking too much, but it seemed to have no effect on me for day 2. Besides going to MGM, we didn’t do too much walking at all on Saturday, other than walking back to the car after the half, walking to and from the resort room, etc.

I think you’ll be fine, but I agree with not hanging around the park after you eat. I would try to get off the feet as much as possible.

I remember that Saturday well. It was a weird day, because I wasn’t too tired from the half marathon, but knew I needed to rest for the full, so I forced myself to take a nap early afternoon. I’ll tell you this, though—I didn’t have any trouble going to sleep Saturday night, and I usually have a hard time sleeping before a big race. So maybe the half the day before isn’t such a bad idea. :)

I'll be going in to Epcot around 4pm for dinner. But that is it! I will leave the rest of my group there and head back to BWV for an early night.

Third Goofy attempt this year.

DO's
• Eat/drink a recovery meal as soon as possible after the half. I pack a recovery drink in my checked bag so I can consume within 30 minutes.
• Stretch post run. If you are thinking post race massage, have your masseuse focus on stretches and a very light rub
• Walk for 20-30 minutes before boarding bus or getting in car or getting massage
• Have a hearty lunch. Balance it don’t think you can carb load at this point.
• Walk. Parks are great, resorts are fine, lying in bed BAD. Stretch out a few times as you walk.
• Graze during the day but keep from having a second big meal.
• Hydrate well. Focus on taking in your daily water intake plus a couple extra glasses worth. Make 2-3 glasses electrolytic.

DON’Ts
• Sleep all afternoon - a nap is fine
• Take a dip in the hot tub, save it for Sunday
• Heavily attend a park – keep the trip all about walking not getting to every ride.
• Alcohol, obvious but worth stating

Good post Cecilia :). Great advice Stephen and Charles, as always, you guys have been a HUGE help with us Goofy newbies ;).

Cecilia...I'm definitely NOT a guru but I"ll tell you what we are planning to do. We plan to rest a bit (ice bath for me) at the resort, grab a healthy lunch, then go to Epcot WS to wander around for a few hours. We have an early dinner scheduled so we'll head back to the resort after eating and hopefully sleep early. I don't plan to nap after the race at all b/c I really hope to keep the legs as loose as possible :). I know that for me too much sitting is the kiss of death...so movement, albeit slow and casual, is the absolute best solution until I sleep for the night :).

Don't stress...you are going to do AWESOME!!!

What a great thread. I've been wondering this myself.

I think I plan to have the family bring me my recovery meal that the reunion tent. Then we'll slowly walk back to the BW villa through Epcot to keep me from stiffening right away.

Since we'll have to spend a park admission for that "short cut," I guess I'll be back in a park (which one, TBD) for a few rides and nice "lunner" meal after my cold bath.

Sunday's the day that worries me. I'll cross finish around noon, another recovery meal at the tent, and finally get back to the villa by 1:00 pm. Cold bath, cool shower, lunner, then head to MCO for a 7:00 pm flight. Land at BWI 11:30, then home around 1:00 am.

I gave the kids the option of staying in WDW til Monday, but they said, "no, we should be back at school." :love2: Sheesh. 8th and 10th grades. They'll miss one class period due to Friday's flight. It's not the end of the world, but school does comes first.
