I would greatly appreciate a bit of advice. Does anyone else fly Chicago to Orlando? I am pricing tickets for October right now and the prices are about $400 each nonstop when all is said and done. Spirit airlines has a flight for $227 but of course we would have to pay for bags ahead of time which would raise the price a bit. After reading some posts about Spirit I'm a bit hesitant to book this airline. Maybe I'm just looking too soon for Chicago?:confused3

Keep looking and check all the alternate airports-- flying out of Midway is often cheaper than O'Hare.

Might be too soon. I'd at least wait until SWA releases its schedule for October. Also agree with pp consider alternate airports.

Yeah I think you are right. It may be too soon. I see Southwest has their flight schedule out through late September. I would be so happy to find a deal through them as they fly out of Milwaukee which is closer to me. :cool1:

Yes I would agree too early. Last year we went from Chicago to Orlando out of Midway in October and paid around $255 RT. I am hoping when SWA opens up that it will be a price we can live with for this October.

Yeah I am crossing my fingers for SW. I hope there isn't a big fare increase by flying out of Milwaukee vs Midway. I am north of Milwaukee and it's a 2.5 hour drive to Midway for me.

Stargazertechie-May I ask what problems you had with Spirit?

I've had 7+ hour delays on 50% of my flights. Yes, those flights were between the months of November and March, into Chicago, but with such a limited flight schedule, it means you can be waiting quite awhile for that "next flight".

I will keep my fingers crossed for you that the price difference (if any) is reasonable. That is a long drive!

Stargazertechie- That's awful! Who would want to start out their vacation that way? Not me. I will avoid Spirit for sure.

mdsd8700- Thanks! I have my fingers AND toes crossed haha.

I personally find the seats on spirit very small. I'm short - only 5 ft, and my last flight on Spirit was only about an hr or so long and my legs ached when I got off. I was very unimpressed - and I'm used to being squished into tiny spaces in coach! That said, I would fly them again if the price is right.

I have found flight prices higher this year than last year. I did just find a decent price in Southwest ($300) for March. Last year at the same time, $300 was the normal price and the cheapest I saw was $200 (missed buying it though and paid about $280). This year, $400 seems to be the norm and $300 is the new "cheap".

On the other hand, last summer I was looking at flights to LAX and they were around $500-$600+. This year I'm looking again and couldn't believe I saw flights at $300+. So Disneyland, here we come!

I'm 5'0 too haha. I can't imagine how my 5'11 hubby would feel in those seats!:rotfl:
