Today is the last official day that WDW's third theme park will be known as Disney-MGM Studios. Tomorrow it tranfers to Disney's Hollywood Studios.

BTW - does anyone know if there's a renaming ceremony or anything? Or does it just change overnight and that's that?

I haven't heard anything about a re-naming or re-dedication, nor have I seen anything in the papers or heard anything from local media about it, other than Disney's announcement that they were in the process of changing over signs and that it will take months to complete.

They can change the name or the sponsors but it will always be

"Disney's MGM" to my family....

I went to MGM yesterday and asked for a ceremony and was told that there wasn't going to be one.

Don't worry - you can still get your MGM fix from guidebooks! It's been known for months (rumored longer) that MGM would become Hollywood Studios but the 2008 Birnbaum's, the Unofficial Guide, etc... all still have Disney-MGM Studios listed! I was recently at Barnes and Noble and of course had to check out the new guidebooks and that is what I found!:thumbsup2

I like the DHS better Never really got the MGM thing I know the story behind and so forth but still .

For us it's always been Studios so I guess that will just stick.

We were there Yesterday and Today. The water taxi ride guy made a big deal to tell us that it is now Hollywood studios? and that he had some old mgm maps we could take to collect. I asked if there was a ceremony and he said no. Also As we were leaving today I did notice they were changing the name on the tower of terror display out on the road to say Hollywood studios.

the park closed an hour early today. They are going to get some of the major signs done overnight tonite. I am going to rope drop in the morning to see the signs. Its going to be cool.

I have never called it MGM to begin with. I always referred to it as Disney Studio's. I never got the MGM connection and Disney Studio's just seemed more appropriate since this was a Disney Property. The transition will be easy for me.

My understanding is that Disney' relationship with MGM film/television studio was rocky from day one, and that no one was really happy (though I've never seen or heard the specifics regarding the dispute). In fact, they've been litigating with one another for several years (think of the glorious attorney's fees!) and finally settled their differences last year. Part of the agreement was that Disney would change the name of the studio, and there ya go.

I happen to like the name DHS, but it really doesn't matter to me what they call any of their parks. I go for the fun, not for the name.

Sort of feels like the end of an era. I've gotten so use to calling it "MGM" over the years though that it will take a while before I adjust to the new name.

its today. i'm leaving in like ten minutes to go to rope drop! The first rope drop as Disney's Hollywood Studios!!!!! I'll post pics really late tonight.

I don't have a problem with them renaming MGM, but I wish they had left out "Hollywood". Disney Studios would have been enough. I am one that gets annoyed with "Hollywood Types", and I am never star struck by famous people. I think the name Hollywood has a negative connotation.

Im ok with the Hollywood in the name.......just Disney Studios would have been better but its ok to me.
