Good Vibes and pixie dust needed please

Thank you everyone for your good wishes! It went a lot better than the last, all the interviewers were really lovely! They made me feel very relaxed and much less scary than the last one!

Plus I didn't have to do a maths test! :thumbsup2

I should know in about 2 to 3 weeks! I will keep you guys updated!

Well done Kate, glad it went well, fingers crossed you get on it now :)
is it primary you're applying for?
Oh, and bad news, you will eventually have to do a maths test I'm afraid :lmao:

Hi Kate,

I hope you love your new job whatever it may be! Sounds like teaching? I have taught music for 16 years and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!! I was wondering what these math tests you and Luke are referring to? Is it because you want to be a math teacher? Do all teachers in the UK have to take them upon interviewing? We don't have to do that here in the US. (THANK GOODNESS!)

We have to do tests in maths, English and ICT as part of our PGCE (teacher training course) no matter what we teach - I teach languages but still had to do them. I'm a secondary teacher (high school) but I think primary (elementary?) teachers have to do it too.
They're not (that) difficult and you can take it as many times as it takes to pass tho :)

Yes, I know I will have to do one at some point, just hopefully when I am more prepared! I got an A at GCSE maths, so you'd hope that I would be able to teach primary maths, but there we go!

Thank you Angie!

This interview is to get on a course to learn how to be an elementary school teacher (so I have to teach everything, not just maths!)

Every person training to be a teacher has to take a test to show competency in English, Maths and ICT before they can qualify. I was also meant to take one to get into the course I interviewed for today, but they cancelled it! Thank goodness, because my basic maths is a bit rusty. Give me trigonometry or algebra and I'm fine, but give me long division and I get all confused!

They are changing that soon apparently. You will only get a set number of times in which to pass. Hopefully it won't be too bad and it's a long way off! :goodvibes

Pleased to hear that the interview went well Kate. Fingers crossed for a good result in a couple of weeks :goodvibes

In the US, we also have to pass the National Teachers Exam and then the Praxis in your area to even graduate. I guess that is the equivalent. Hope it all works out for you!
