I rarely drop in on anyone without calling first, but my SIL told me that she had taken my MIL to the doctor that morning and she was on an antibiotic for a UTI. DH was out of town, I happened to be in my MIL's town yesterday afternoon, I had an "uneasy feeling" and a sudden impulse to check in on her.
I knocked at the door and there was no answer, so I let myself in. She was sitting in a chair, vomiting, verbally non responsive, pale and tremulous. I called 911. She had a low grade fever, and was not oriented to time nor place. She didn't know what day it was, what year it was, etc. She couldn't tell me where he keys were. I found her wallet, called DH's brother, and sent her wallet with the EMTs to the hospital while I secured her house. My BIL and SIL met her at the ER. The EMT was concerned that she was "allergic" to her medication. She looked like she had sepsis to me which is what it turned out to be. By the time DH left the hospital last night, they had initiated treatment and she was lucid. She remembers nothing. Not me coming in, waiting for the ambulance, etc. The only thing she remembers is being in the ambulance and seeing me outside the door of it. I am glad I dropped in.

OH, Dawn! I'm so glad you go to her in time. UTIs can be so dangerous for the elderly. They can turn on a dime(I know you know this.) I'm so glad you listened to your sixth sense. Today could have turned out much differently for you all.

Oh my, how scary. How very lucky you all are that you stopped to check in on her. Hope she gets better soon.

How scary. I'm glad you took the time to visit her today.

 Glad you were there for her. As uneasy as it is for the both of you that she doesn't remember, it's probably better. It would have been a frightening ordeal for her, being alone and going through that.

Thank god you listened to your inner voice, so often we ignore it! Hope your MIL heals quickly.

This is a good point. My husband suffered septic shock about 7 years ago and he remembers going to the hospital but he has not memory of when he tanked and the following 8 days in CCU. Probably for the best, cuz it wasn't pretty.

Way to use your "radar." My mother had a UTI that put her in the hospital for 8 days. Hope your MIL will be up and around soon...

My MIL lives in California (near SIL), and she was telling me she felt pain when she took a breath. Well, I should have called my SIL because I suspected pneumonia. Waited one day, and she went into the hospital with pneumonia.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS trust your instincts. Your MIL had an angel looking out for her that day - YOU!

Thank goodness you followed your gut feeling..hope she is feeling better soon.

Sometimes you just get that impulse and have to follow it! It's great that you listened to your gut and went to check on her. I hope she gets better soon and realizes that she has such a wonderful daughter-in-law!:)

My mom did too. That must have been in the back of my mind.

Don't hold your breath on that one! :rotfl:

Thank God for kind caring DIL's  ! It's ablessing you got there when you did Dawn, glad to hear she's on the mend. My 75yo SisIL was found unconscious due to Ecoli/UTI, that put her in a touch and go coma for 3 wks. Thankfully she's a survivor, we just celebrated her 81stBD :goodvibes.
BTW ~ good to see a positive MIL/DIL thread, specially in a life saving way. :worship:

Wow! Good thing you were there!

My Dad had sepsis-and almost died from it. He was unresponsive for about a week, she must be incredibly healthy to come out of it that quickly!

Everyone needs a special angel in their life, so glad you are they type of person of compassion and intuition. May she get well soon,
:littleangel:
