good shoes for wide feet?

I was looking at the Teva Terra Fi Lites, but took a look now at the Tirras. They're cute.

Did you find they fit true-to-size, or did you need to size up/down to make sure the length and width were good?

Thanks :)

I found them to be true to size.

With all the walking to be done at Disney World, not to mention my general need to keep up with a preschooler with boundless energy, I'm trying to decide what new shoes to buy - for the summer and for our fall Disney trip.

I've seen other threads about shoes, but I don't recall seeing any that specifically made suggestions for wide feet. Which is what I've got!

So, if you've got wide feet, and you swear by a comfy/supportive/etc shoe, sneaker, or sandal that can keep your feet from crying as you make your way around the World, please share your suggestions. I'm all ears!

For my pancake-wide feet: Teva Mush sandals. They've stood the test of time for me: purchased first pair in 2009, and worn 4 times to WDW (have bought a few pairs to rotate through since). I never had a blister, any pain or discomfort, plus my feet were not sweaty and swollen by the end of the night. I was the FP runner in my family, too! Not only wonderful for wide feet; I also have bad joint/bone issues in my feet as well. I highly recommend! Good luck :thumbsup2

Not necessarily for Disney shoes, but I also have 2 pairs of Clark's that are comfy and have held up really well.

Totally agree about Clark's. Nearly all my work shoes are this brand. A great combination of nice style with comfort and wide fit.

I had a pair of Clarks maryjanes that I loved... until they pinched so deep into the nerve leading into my big toe on one foot that I have permanent damage/numbness. (Just my luck.)

I also find that Clarks wides run a bit narrower than other wides. But they're nice-looking shoes, and they're supposed to be great quality. Glad they work for someone. :)

i bought sketchers about couple months ago and they feel fantastic and I come home and not in any pain from walking all day :goodvibes

My super wide swim flipper style feet do well in Keens--Venice style, maybe?--in the parks. For sneakers, I wear Asics Gel Nimbus, wides in a full size up from my usual shoe size. Fancy pants (but still comfy) shoes are from Jambu. Dansko in winter. Sanuk flip flops when I don't have far to walk.

Tevas, New Balance, Sketchers, Merrills, Ecco, Mephisto, and Chaco all made me want to cry in pain. Pinched here or there, too wide in the heel, or arch in the wrong place. No bueno.

Searching for a super comfortable dressier/lleather sandal, but no luck yet.

Go to a place like Trade home or the Walking Store or Fleet Feet or another reputable local store and get some help. You'll at least get a sense of what brands may work for you. Women may get some good ideas at barking dog shoes dot com--a great blog for shoe ideas for hard to fit feet.

Any decent running specialty store will have different shoes for walking and/or running available in wide sizes.

They will PROPERLY fit you and also have non-cotton socks to help your feet breath and to assist with potential blister issues.

Keen H2 sandals.

Our entire family wear them including our kids. They are comfortable, nice and wide and wear like iron. Even my Son can't kill them.

I have big Fred Flintstone feet, EEEE width.

I have a pair of Keen hiking shoes that I LOVE. Super comfy and supportive. I plan on taking them when I go in October.

Fellow wide foot person here (EEE). The only two brands I've found that are consistently comfortable for me are Brooks for athletic shoes and Merrell for hiking/walking shoes/sandals.

I find that my local REI has the best selection of shoes to try, and an extremely liberal return policy if you don't like them after a break in period. After going to Disney a few years back and getting a terrible case of plantar fasciitis from all the walking, I also added some arch supports to my shoes which really helped.

Just remember to break them in for a few weeks (at least) beforehand - we try to walk 2 or 3 miles a day in our park shoes for a couple weeks before we go to make sure that we're not going to be hobbled by blisters once we get down there.

I also have wide feet but am not a big fan of sneakers. My feet hate that closed in feeling and get too hot and sweaty! On the other hand, as I've gotten older, flip-flops really make my feet and legs hurt after walking in the parks all day. When we went to Disney in September I ordered these Merrill's and I loved them!

They were so comfortable and my feet stayed cool! I wore them pretty exclusively for five straight days!

Anyone who complains about hot feet while in sneakers/running shoes, there are two suggestions that might help:

1 - Get rid of your cotton socks. Seriously, throw them away. They do not breath and just hold moisture. Get socks comprised of no more than 2% cotton. They are thinner, lighter and wick sweat away from the body helping prevent blisters and keeping your feet cooler. They can be found just about anywhere now. Academy, Dicks, Target, I THINK even Wal-Mart. Even youth sports teams have moved away from cotton now it has become that common.

2- Get a pair of shoes specifically designed for running. There are some differences in support between walking and running shoes, but they are MUCH better for your feet than a standard leather sneaker from 1985. You want something that is made to help your feet breathe.

Here is an example of a current walking shoe by Brooks:

Now here is a running shoe by brooks...see the side and top panels which allow for more airflow:

When trying to decide which shoe is right for you, I cannot stress enough to go to a specialty running store...at least once. They will do a gait analysis on your feet and watch you walk then be able to suggest the right shoe for your activity. Then, can also recommend any insert that may help a specific condition you have concerns about. After that, feel free to scour amazon or running warehouse for online deals on replacements, but seek the advice of a professional (and I don't mean an employee at Academy).
