good shoes for wide feet?

"Flintstone Feet" was literally my nickname in high school by a couple friends. ROTFL. Wide Feet Unite! ;)

My feet have been called "hobbit feet" - not because they're hairy (thankfully), but because I have small, high-arched/thick, wide feet. And they were ridiculous while I was pregnant - I think they were wider than they were long! :)

I'm relieved to see several people chiming in for Tevas - I ordered 2 pairs (Terra Fi Lites and Tirras) tonight and am hoping one of them will be worth keeping. If not, I'll try a new pair of Chacos, since those have a wide option.

As for sneakers, I definitely can't recommend Brooks highly enough... but again, you're paying quite a bit for those...

Another vote for New Balance. I work on my feet all day and have wide feet for a girl. Even women's "wide" sneakers aren't good enough for my hooves.

So I wear the men's New Balance 4E width. They are comfy and have worn them for years. I went all over WDW and did a Disney Cruise to the Bahamas wearing them.

I did recently bought some Skechers Sports wide sneakers for a change of pace and they are good too. They are a tiny bit loose but I cinch them up tight & are good for work but don't know about doing a theme park with them on.

I like new balance as well. I am 4ft 11 and wear a 5wide. It is almost impossible to find women's shoes and sneakers! I usually have to order them from new balance. They are the only sneaker that doesn't hurt. I also wear crocs flip flops but I can only wear them for the pool. I can't imagine walking in the park all day in them. I envy people that can do that. I see a lot of people have mentioned tiva. I am going to try those out! Have a great trip!

I have a really wide toe box and I only wear Propets.

The 8.5Ws fit me perfectly right out of the box.

I haven't had to break in any of the shoes at all.

The Travel Walkers are great, made for walking, super light. Washable, the insoles come out.

We got rained on some many times least year at Disney I just took the inserts out, propped them up with the shoes propped on the toe and they were dry the next morning.

I do not have their sandals but the Travel Walkers, Travel Walker Slides, Travel Walker Mary Janes and some wintery ones even the hiking boots. The only ones I don't recommend are the ZigZgas for extended wear and I don't think they make them anymore.

Plus Zappos is great with free shipping and free returns. I've never had a problem sending something back to them if it wasn't just right.

We do well with Sketchers here. My DS is 14 years old with Asperger's Syndrome, wide feet and major sensory issues. Shoe shopping for him used to be a nightmare, but just recently found that he LOVES Sketchers with memory foam (thank goodness!) I myself do not have wide feet, but only found comfort in Sketchers throughout both of my pregnancies. Good luck!

Asics treat me right. Run and workout nearly daily and one foot is tricky but my Asics have provided perfect support. Not all Asics are equal. I didn't like any I physically tried on at Kohls but the first pair I ordered onliefit like they were built for me! We went 8-10 miles a day at the parks according to my body bugg.

You might want to go to a running store where they can evaluate the amount of support your feet need in addition to the width. Also...good socks.

I love my SAS shoes. I have a pair of sandals and sneakers. They are a little over $100, but I have had mine for many years. Another nice thing is that the sales people take time to fit you and know what they are doing.

My father got me turned on to these shoes. I have wide feet and a high arch plus bone spurs. Some mornings I could hardly walk. I started wearing the SAS shoes 10 years ago and have had no more problems. My sandals feel like I am walking on marshmallow clouds!

For walking/running shoes, I would definitely recommend getting fitted at a running shoe store. I have Brooks Ghost in a wide (can't remember which series) and they are awesome. I also have had good luck with Adidas, which tend to run wide in my experience.
I also agree with PP's about Teva Tirra, they are amazingly comfy and supportive. My other go to is the Sketcher Go Walk in extra wide, I'm a teacher and wear them almost everyday to work, like walking on clouds!
Not necessarily for Disney shoes, but I also have 2 pairs of Clark's that are comfy and have held up really well.
All of the shoes I've mentioned have run true to size for me. I've heard the go walks run short, but I'm thinking that the extra wide makes up for that, as I have a 10, which is my normal size and they fit perfect.

A shoe that works for others may not work for you. There is more to finding the right shoe than how wide your foot is. Brooks (as has been mentioned) is a running show. Not every Brooks shoe is the same nor does it fit a person with a high, low, or neutral arch the same.

If you want a running shoe, please go to a running store where they can examine your walk (on a treadmill with a playback camera) and then select several shoes for you to choose from that will fit you the best.

I currently run in a mid-stability pair of Brooks, my last pair was a mid-stability Asics both suited me fine. Overall I have worn Asics more than Brooks, I just know I need a mid-stability running shoe. I also have wide feet.

Also, if you have never purchased good running shoes, do not order online. Please go to a store. Also ask what their return policy is. The first and only pair of running shoes that I bought with a gel heal caused me to have tendonitis. The store took them back as I could not run in that style shoe. When you get the shoes, make a point to find a track (or mall) and do a few laps to see how the shoes will feel after you have been walking in them for a decent amount of time.

Two stores I shop are are: http://fitniche.com/ and http://fit2run.com/

With all the walking to be done at Disney World, not to mention my general need to keep up with a preschooler with boundless energy, I'm trying to decide what new shoes to buy - for the summer and for our fall Disney trip.

I've seen other threads about shoes, but I don't recall seeing any that specifically made suggestions for wide feet. Which is what I've got!

So, if you've got wide feet, and you swear by a comfy/supportive/etc shoe, sneaker, or sandal that can keep your feet from crying as you make your way around the World, please share your suggestions. I'm all ears!

We love the Keen H2 sandals. They don't lose shape and get loose after getting wet. That will be key going in summer. My whole family wears these. This is the only brand thus far that has accommodated everyone. The inner layer is made of neoprene so they stretch enough to fit very wide feet. I'm an 8C/D, and they don't hurt my feet at all. They have sizes from toddler through adult. Big fan of Keen. You can see them at the link below, but you can buy them at other stores including Amazon for a bit less. We bought ours at Cabela's when they had a sale. It's good to go try on these shoes for proper fit. Once you know your size, you can pick them up online pretty cheaply.

Intruiging that Keens work, since when I've shopped for them they haven't have Wide. With my feet it's the bones that are wide, and I can't go with just a stretchy top material. The part my foot sits on has to be wide enough, or my bones flop over the edge and it hurts them AND gives blisters.

The shoes that used to work for me don't work anymore. I can give no recommendations other than Crocs Athens (which don't run in wide but are actually very wide on the bottom and manage to work) flip flops, along with bringing at least two pairs of some sort of shoe to switch out with.

Also, dump the cotton socks and go with a nice wicking material. Changed my life once I got over cotton socks.

I just got some Thorlos socks, which are specially padded in the heel and toe and are super comfortable. Looking forward to using them at Disney.

There are many different styles for Keen shoes. My feet are both extremly wide and have a high instep. I found the Newports work well while other style s don't. I suggest going to a store that has a large selection and try all the different type.

I bought 3 pairs of Thorlos socks for our last Disney trip (in 2012). I nearly choked when I saw the price, but I figured it was worth it if I could walk the parks all day without my feet killing me. They were great. So padded and cushy. No blisters that trip!

The only downside is that the thickness means they're pretty warm... so I'm not really comfortable wearing them in warm/hot weather. (My feet tend to sweat to begin with, and I don't want to stink!)

On the advice of a shoe store clerk, I had my son (who inherited my wide, thick feet, but not my high arches) try on a pair of Keens. I'd also heard that they run wide. My son jumped 2 or 3 times, took a few steps, and immediately sat down and refused to run any further. The shoes were pinching him that much. That sort of made me afraid to try on Keens myself! I don't remember which style it was, though. Perhaps we'll both give the Keen Newports a try another day...

I agree 100%. I'd been picking out running shoes based on appearance and price for years, without paying any attention to the structure of the shoes themselves. And my feet were sore and achy, often. Turns out, I'd always chosen shoes for overpronation (which are more rigid and structured), because I figured the support was good. But I underpronate, so I was hurting my own feet every time I put on my shoes! Getting advice from a running store was the best thing I did - I love my softer, cushier sneakers. (In my case, I went with Brooks brand, which does a nice job of offering wide widths.) My feet have been much, much happier!

I'm looking forward to trying on the Tevas I ordered when they arrive. I'm hoping that other people's experiences with them being wide enough will mean they work for me, too! If not, it's back to the drawing board - I'll be keeping an eye on further suggestions here. :)

After our last Disney trip in '09 and it was so hot that my feet swelled and became very painful, I took my sisters advice and went to a local running store.

I got evaluated and measured. I pronate in and measure a size 11 EEE. Very hard to find footwear that wide.

I tried on a bunch of different sneakers and finally settled on Brooks Addiction. $100 but well worth it. I'm now on my 2nd pair. The are very comfortable. Breathe easy (combo of mesh and leather). I'm very happy.

I also just bought a pair of Keen Newport. They fit my foot pretty well. I'm bringing them to Disney next week but not sure how much I'll wear them since I just got them. They definitely allow my feet to breathe easier and there does seem a little bit of room on the side for my EEE wide foot to have enough room.
