I really need to switch up my shampoo. I just use whatever I get for free doing the CVS deals (Pantene, Herbal Essence, Aussie, etc). I would really like to splurge and get a great shampoo that works better for my hair.

I have medium/long hair (past shoulders). Highlighted. Stick straight. Fairly thick but not overly so. Not real oily. I wash it every other day. I do use a Chi 3-4 days a week and occassionly blow dry it (wash at night so it air dries til morning).

What would you recommend and where is the best place to buy? I like a smooth, sleek look hence the Chi. My hair tends to get frizzy around the ends and a bit damaged.

Well for a splurge, I enjoy aveda's hair care line.

For highlights, whatever you get--try to get a shampoo for colored hair so that it keeps your color looking better for longer. My shampoos I always purchase for keeping my hair healthy and not necessarily for how I want it styled. (found it was ineffective anyway and with product, I can get pretty versatile between curls and straight).

For straight hair when you hair is wavy (like mine)--I just use hair products for smoothing. I use one from Aveda that is really nice. It lasts me a while since I don't care if my hair is smooth and straight every day. I haven't had to repurchase in a while--I like the Got 2 Be brand as well. I have a number of their products for styling.

My hair sounds like it is exactly like yours, except mine gets kind of oily. I love, love, love the shampoo and conditioner I use - Pureology Moisturizing. It is pricey, especially to buy smaller bottles, but I actually began ordering larger bottles online and that defrayed the cost a bit.

Both have very little water content, so a little goes a long way and I've had bottles last for months. Also, it's all vegan so I don't feel so bad about ALL the meat I eat!

I have long color-treated hair. I use Biolage Ultra conditioning shampoo and conditioning balm. Love the stuff!

Matrix Sleek Look.

Or have you tried Chi's S&C line? Fantastic.

Wen Conditioning Cleanser. I was skeptical at first-no lather, but I love, love, love how soft and smooth it makes my hair. It is very expensive, but I don't use as much as suggested, and the 12 oz bottle I bought about 2-1/2 months ago is only half gone. I have long wavy hair that I blow dry straight. I wash it every 5 or 6 days and it never looks greasy.

I second the WEN Conditioning Cleanser. I get mine from QVC. I have used it for about 3 years now. I try others from time to time but always go back to WEN within a few days. I straighten my hair every day and this is the only product that would not leave my hair frizzy. I used to have my haircut every 4-6 weeks because my ends would get so bad. Now I go every 4-6 months. Try it from QVC - you have 30 days to try it and if you don't like it you can send it back for a full refund - no questions asked (one reason I love QVC). The WEN products will be on QVC tomorrow for 2- 1hour shows. 5-6 AM and 4-5 PM (EST). Check it out if you can. Or you can go online and order.

I HIGHLY recommend Organix. I tried it a couple of years ago, and I have not gone back. It is a little pricy for what you are getting, so it is definitely a splurge.

As you may suspect by the name it is Organic, pure ingrediants. They have all sorts of really yummy varieties, like Shea Butter and Pomegranate. I use the Coconut Milk variety.

Anyone who has used my shower, then tried out my shampoo raves about it, and I have actually turned on a few people to the Organix brand.

Best part: Not tested on animals!

Aveda produts. I use the Smooth Infusion Line and my hair has actually changed in the past 3 months since I started using it. It is smoother and incredibly soft. Not the cheapest stuff but since I wash every other day now it lasts so much longer.
