I would like my kids to start working on SAT vocabulary. Are their any good computer programs out there that the kids might sort of enjoy. I know that we probably complain, but I figured the computer would be better than a book. They are going into 5th and 9th grades.

I don't know if it's appropriate for SAT vocab but a site I recommend for vocab building and doing your good deed for the day is www.freerice.com

From their website:

* Click on the right answer in the middle of this page.
* If you get it right, you get a harder question. If you get it wrong, you get an easier question.
* For each answer you get right, we donate 10 grains of rice to the United Nations World Food Program.

Direct Hits by Larry Krieger is recommended over and over on College Confidential.

No, it isn't too early, because he is reading on a 12th grade level and schools in my district start working on it in Middle School.
Oh...well, my district starts middle school (jr. high school) at 7th grade...7th and 8th. We didn't start doing any sort of SAT Prep until 9th grade or so...sorry...

Our school starts "Word within Word" books in middle school or advanced language arts starts in in 5th grade. It is a good book to break down words and understand them long term. It is not too exciting though, so we also started EPGY computer language arts. I got a great discount through a homeschool co-op even though we don't homeschool full-time. It holds DDs interest and she likes it pretty well.
