This is my first post to the boards, I have been reading them constantly for the past 2 months and I thought I would take a shot at posting.

Our family is planning a Christmas trip from Dec 16-26 and I'm not sure when to start looking for airfare. I was on Delta's website today and they have fares on from Boston for $160 return. Does anyone know if that's a good price or should I play the waiting game. Our original plan was too fly Southwest out of Manchester but I'm not sure what kind of prices they would have out for that time of year. Anyway, I would sure appreciate any advice!!

We love flying Song out of Logan. I tend to check in on their website every day or so. Then if I see a terrific fare, I try to justify yet another trip to WDW. And with Delta's new terminal opening this spring, it should be even better. I booked our June flight back in Oct. I think I paid in the neighborhood of $160 r/t. When we flew to WDW in Nov., on Thanksgiving Day and returned the following Wed., we paid around $190. So, if you're finding a fare for $160 and it's non-stop, I would grab it. I like that I can get the seats I want (or close to it) when I book with Delta Song.

And welcome to the Disboards. You're going to love it here!!!

$160 is a good price at any time of the year. I wouldn't hold out expecting to do any better.

However, to your question about flying out of Manchester or Boston, you would need to give that some further consideration. Some things to weigh include how hard/easy it is to get to each airport from your house at that time of day; how much it will cost you to drive to the airport (or take a bus/car service); and how much it may cost you to park while you are gone.

We often fly out of Providence, even though it further away than Boston, simply because traffic is much less around Providence than Boston and parking at PVD is about half what it is in BOS.

I agree with Jeff, Providence is easier to get in and out of, I expect Manchester is the same way. But when I was booking MY Christmas trip, Logan was at least $100 cheaper each way. By the way, I thought I got a great deal, flying down on AA @ $66/ticket, and return by Delta Song @ $112/ticket, both nonstop flights...but you got an excellent price, so I'd go with it, if it's still available. My "great prices" skyrocketed a day after I booked, which was the day they became available.
Maybe I'll see you Christmas Day!

I also like to fly SWA out of PVD. Very easy and inexpensive to park.

But what I really like about SWA is that if their prices drop after you book they will credit you the difference if the sale price is available on your flight. They are also flexible in changing flights if you need to. :)

Sounds like a great price to me! I would grab it….Christmas is usually very expensive…..jump on it!

The other thing to remember with Delta out of BOS is that next month they open their new terminal A at Logan. No more doing the 'grand tour' of all the terminals and airport. If you're being dropped off or picked up, you can get right back out of the airport from Terminal A, no need to do the loop.

And with the new tunnel, we have found getting in and out of Logan easier and easier over the past year/18 months.

I know the Boston traffic can stink, but IMHO Logan in a LOT better than it was even 2 or 3 years ago.

And to the OP, that's a GREAT price for December. Good Job.

Thanks for the replies! We decided to go ahead and book it, the fare of $161 incl. tax still beats SW if they offered $79 one way. At least know I don't have to stress about waiting for SW to open their fares. Thanks again! ::MickeyMo

Are you going to be in New England for some other reason, or are you driving all the way from New Brunswick just to save on airfare?

You may want to consider the cost of driving and parking in your calculations. It may be that flying out of Fredricton or St John on Delta isn't so bad after all (but never any deals out of Moncton), plus you're at WDW sooner that way. Or maybe just hopping the border to Bangor and going from there. If you could get a reasonable connecter flight out of NB to Boston, then take Delta/Song from there you should de really well.

Personally, we love flying Delta's Song unit, and the fares you mention can't be beat. And if you're gonna be in New England anyway, well then by all means give Song a try at that price.

Good luck!

I use SWA from Manchester to Orlando. We have a $175 RT fare for July. On occassion you can get it for as low as $120. The one thing to remember with the flights out of Boston, a lot of them are connecting flights. SWA is a non-stop flight.

I got BOS to TPA(tampa) in October for $106 including taxes and fees round trip. That was also on Delta. That same ticket is now $175. I suggest keep watching because when they add flights they seem to come out cheaper for a day or so.

We really lucked out last August when they had the airfare wars going. We got Boston to Orlando the 2nd week of December for $104 roundtrip. I've also had luck with booking a one way with JetBlue and the other way with FlySong. If I can get it for under $180, then I'm a happy person. I think you did well considering the time of year you're flying.
