Went to MK on 12/13 and COP was closed. It was open on 12/10 so I was curious enough to ask the attendant what the deal was. He said it was closed until Sat (12/17) to put in new carpet. I said I thought that was great because that would probably mean that it would be open a while longer. He said that so many people complained about it being closed in the past and that Disney has recently discovered that it is in Walt's will that the attraction remain open.

COP lives!! :cloud9:

Oh I hope that is true, we love COP! That's kind of weird though, in all the postings about this beloved attraction I have never read the "Walt's will" thing. The fact they installed new carpet is encouraging however.

Great news!! One of my favorite things at the World.. :flower:

We saw COP on Sunday, and every time right before the we moved to the next scene, the CM came on the speaker and said, "please remain in your seats". It was kinda funny after awhile! I think I read somewhere that a CM was killed on that attraction years ago, so maybe they are being more careful? Or maybe someone in another "room" kept on standing up...not sure. I just thought it was strange.

COP is one of those rides I remember riding as far back as I can remember. It would be a shame to ever see it go. I know of a few other things that should go before that one.

We just returned from WDW yesterday. We saw CAP on 12/11. There were some people on the ride with us laughing and talking about how out dated it was. They laughed and acted just plain stupid everytime the song "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" played. I thought my DS (9) was going to tell them a thing or two :). That is one of his favorites, and it is good to know that it will be staying around. He worries everytime we go that it will close!

This is wonderful news. My sister loves COP. I would hate to see it closed. IMO, it is a disney treasure!! ::MinnieMo

I TOTALLY agree with this! It's always been one of our favorites and so far we've always been lucky enough to have it open on our trips.

My DD was just asking me about it last night and when I told her I was unsure if it would be open, her face fell. I can't wait to give her the good news!

I love COP!!! It is so nostaligic. I did notice though that it could use some refurbishment. The seats were beginning to show some wear. Glad to hear of the new carpet!

I've been saying all along that COP wasn't going to close for good, mainly because so many people raised opposition to the idea of closing it.

However, though it "may" be true, I seriously doubt that CM was correct in that the attraction remains open because they just now found something in Walt's will. First of all, I find it doubtful that they just now found something like that, after all of this time.

Also, the way companies are run these days, it's not about the park as much as it is about "Big Business". If the management at WDW (up to the top) found a valid safety or financial reason for closing the attraction, they would, regardless of anyone's will.

If we saw Walt's true will, I bet we would be amazed at how much things are not in accordance to it.

I think the attraction is remaining open because of 2 major reasons: 1) They knew that people were upset with the rumors. 2) I think they truly planned on closing it after Stitch opened but, when Stitch didn't get the reviews they were looking for, they decided to keep it open. This carpet and interior work did not take form until after Stitch was opened. I think the Timekeeper becoming a Meet and Greet also had something to do with it, as Tomorrowland would be looking very anemic.

Also, someone did die (as was questioned earlier) on the exterior of the attraction when it was in motion, but I was told that was in California at Disneyland when it was there.

It is completely false that instructions pertaining to COP are in the will. The will is publicly available...check it out...

ok - stupid question (from someone who knows very little about DL) is there a COP in DL? or does WDW have the only one?

Agree with you 100%.
COP is a great ride. Yes it is a little dated but isn't that why we all love Magic Kingdom. I hope it never closes, but I do wish they would do updates every 3-5 years on the last scene.

We went to see CoP on Sunday the 11th. It needs some loving care. Something happened and we had to listen to one of the segments twice, and when it came time to move again, we all cheered when it did get started because it seemed that we would be stuck again.

There must be safety issues, because when it would be time to begin the song after each segment, an announcer comes on and reminds people that the theater would be moving, stay safely in your seat etc. This breaks some of the magic apart from the experience.

Yes, I love CoP but I for one would like it fixed!!!

We had guests who had never been to WDW, they never went to the '64 World's Fair and they loved the idea of seeing the progress in the century! But please WDW, fix it!!

Bobbi :sunny:

PS. Don't know what I would do to change the last scene, but I am happy they show a grandma with some computer game savy! I get beat every time at Toy Story!
