Good Neighbor Hotels?

I'm going to DL in August, and I've decided to stay at a Good Neighbor hotel instead of a Disney hotel. Does anyone have any recommendations (for or against) out of the following hotels?

Carousel Inn & Suites
Best Western Park Place Inn
Best Western Anaheim Inn
Fairfield Inn Anaheim
Howard Johnson
Camelot Inn & Suites
Tropicana Inn & Suites

It will just be me, and I just want a hotel that's decent quality, and am sticking to the ones that are close to the main gate. I won't have a car (I'm flying into John Wayne--I think it's hilarious to say that :rotfl2: -- and will just take a cab or a shuttle.

Thanks for any help you can give me! I should really get this booked. :rolleyes1

We stayed at HOJO's last July. It was great. Our room was on the 5th or 6th floor (can't remember) facing the matterhorn. Our first night there we watched fireworks from our balcony. DH and youngest two DD (11 and 7) actually prefered watching fireworks from the pool to seeing them at DL.:scared1:

The walk was a bit long, but I never felt unsafe, even when it was after midnight and it was just me and my oldest DD walking.

The pool is great. Service was outstanding. My DD11 lost her blanket and housekeeping found it and mailed it back at no charge. (I offered to pay shipping,)

oh, and stopping by mcdonalds for caffeine each day was a plus too!:rotfl:

A lot of the other hotels you mentioned are much closer. I haven't stayed at any of them though.

If it's just you and you don't plan to spend a lot of time at the hotel pool with kids, I would book the one you can find cheapest! I think all of those you have listed are fine. I'd also probably book one with a free cont. breakfast to get the day started.

HoJo's is great as it has the best kid pool, but for a single it's probably not worth the walk unless you want a hot tub. Plus no cont. breakfast there.

Of your list I have stayed at the Hojo, the Best Western Park Place, Tropicana and Camelot. The Tropicana is my favorite. Its a closer walk than the Hojo, has a free continental breakfast and has been recently refurbed. The pool area is nice (small but nice) with a large hottub. I liked them all but the Tropicana was the best based on my stays/experience.

A cab will run you around $50 with tip, for just one person, Super Shuttle is cheaper but not as convenient.

I'm not interested in pools or hot tubs. I'm really not into that. Really just the parks. Continental breakfast would be nice, but it's not a deal-breaker. I think if HoJo is a little further that I might not do that one, because my feet really hurt after a day or so at the parks. That's why I'm looking at the main gate ones rather than a little further. Normally I wouldn't might a little walk, but I will be barely making it by the end of the day. :guilty:

They're all fairly similar in price. I'm planning to book a package via AAA.

Thanks for all of your info so far! I'll look into Super Shuttle.

We found the Carousel Inn very good, had a good breakfast and one of the closer hotels (about 5 min). Pool not very good though...

Have you been to tripadvisor or Mouseplanet has reviews of those hotels.

The only one I have stayed at is BWPPI. It was a decent hotel and right across the street. I still have not found the hotel that I would go back to each time though.

As a single person I'm wondering if booking a package is the best way to go? Aren't most packages quoted as "double occupancy..."

Well, anyways, if you're not into pools or hot tubs, I'd pick the hotel closest to the cross walk. As another poster said, these hotels, or motels as I would describe them, are not the kind of places you fall in love with and have to stay there each time. They are all about location!

Nah, these are different than packages through a tour group. They basically have the price for the hotel room plus the tickets, although I'm sure there's some sort of mark-up, but the AAA rate seems to balance it out. (Plus you still get the EE and the perks of the packages.) The room is of course more than if I was splitting it with someone, but that's what you get when you're going alone.

I have stayed at the BWPPI and the Carousel Inn.. If you do not care about the pool/spa/breakfast, than I would say either of these. The BWPPI is right at the crosswalk and is really nice and clean… I must add though that the Carousel Inn has the most comfortable beds!!! I have no idea what kind of mattress it is (I forgot to check), but they were soo comfy!

We are returning to the BWPPI in August. It is right across the street from the pedestrian entrance. If you do a google search, you should be able to come up with the hotel's website with pictures. The rooms are clean and there is a free breakfast next door. Well worth the price and convenience!

We really liked the Tropicana on this last trip. Very clean rooms, free breakfast was good, friendly staff, location was wonderful being right across the walk way there. But then again the pool and hot tub was important to us.

I would stick with the Carousel Inn, Tropicana, or BWPPI, since they are the closest there to the crosswalk, and I don't think you could go wrong with any of them.

We've stayed at hojo's, BWPPI. and Troicana and like all of them. Since you're not interested in pools & hot tubs and it seems your biggest requirement is that it be clena and close, I'd go with BWPPI or Tropicana.

You just can't beat the location of the BWPPI. Clean rooms, good service. this sounds like what you want.

Thanks for all of your advice. I booked the Best Western Park Place Inn, to save my poor aching feet a few steps. :sad2: :rotfl: I'm looking forward to my trip! :sunny:
