Good Luck and Safe Travels to all DIS College Children This Week

My youngest DS(19) - college sophomore - has been home since last Friday from 3 hours away in Lewisburg, PA (My philosophy is the more you pay to go to school the less they attend) - he is much happier at this school than last fall at University of Buffalo. He is studying business and plays football.

My youngest DD(21) coming home tomorrow from Erie, PA about 2.5 hours away. She is a fashion merchandising major with Geology. She graduates in May and is hoping to land an internship this summer and then get a job after. This has not been an easy road for her between Covid and some other issues college has not lived up to its hype.

My oldest will be joining us at some point from Philadelphia and my oldest DD lives with us since graduating since she teaches in the school district we live in it makes no sense for her to pay rent and live somewhere else.

My boy came home yesterday - took his last final at 8, was on the road by 9. Thankfully - since the weather is absolute crap here now.

He is just about 200 miles south of us - we are in the Twin Cities and he is in Iowa. He is just off the interstate, so it it is nice easy, albeit long, drive for him. He is currently majoring in Business, but is not loving it. I told him he always has the opportunity to switch, but the career he wants requires a business degree, so he is going to try and slog it out. He is a freshman. And, his plan is to own a bowling alley...it has been his goal for eons, and bowling is his obsession/passion, so...

He has always said he wants to bring alleys back to the neighborhoods....place to hang out, have some fun, cheap entertainment. We will see. He gets discouraged pretty easily, so I can see him switching if next semester is as "boring" to him as this semester. We looked over all the majors his school offers last night and a few jumped out at him, but he isn't thrilled at the thought of "starting over" within a degree program. So...
Just so you know everyone one of my kids have switched majors and all were still able to graduate on time. The oldest switched from accounting to business. The oldest daughter switched from speech to special education. The daughter who is a senior now switched last year to fashion merchandising from geology (she is going to be just short of a dual major) and the youngest was economics last year and is now business management. It happens all the time. Maybe your son would like a marketing degree??

My husband just left another local college after 28 years to take a job in admissions at RIT. He is happy he made the move but just such a different place than the smaller liberal arts school he was at.
We love RIT - it's been a perfect fit for our older son. :)

I visited with DD. I think there are underground tunnels connecting many of the dorms to classrooms so students can avoid the sometimes bone chilling weather.

Most of the dorms are connected via tunnels and a lot of the academic buildings have tunnels as well - just nothing connecting the dorm side to the academic side. Everyone has to do the 'quarter mile' (which is closer to 1/2 mile) path to get from one side to another.

DD is a senior at Mizzou, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Her last final is today. She's driving back tomorrow. It really hasn't felt like Christmas at all yet with her gone. Can't wait for our annual viewing of White Christmas!

Hoosier also, DD will be coming home Saturday, Christmas Sunday, then heading back to work Tuesday & Thursday at the hospital. And going to a Basketball game Wednesday(we are #1) then she will head back Friday & go back to work Christmas night, then I'm not sure, lol. She did make sure to get the 2nd off for the Citrus Bowl. I am sure she will pop back and forth depending on her schedule at work.

How far are they away from home? about 2 hours-Boiler Up :)
What are they studying in college? What are they majoring in? Health Sciences-Pre PA
What grade are they? She is a senior
What do they want to do with their degree after they are finished? Her goal is to be in an ER some place small and not hot.

Mine are out of college now, but 2 will be traveling cross-country next week to be here for the holidays. Youngest went from Pittsburgh area where she grew up to California for college and stayed after she graduated. DS (also an RIT grad) is living in a tech hub near Seattle. We only see them a couple of times a year, though now we are near DC it is easier to get non-stop flights.
