My company is doing a grab bag this year where you can "trade up". If you don't like the gift you opened, you can trade for any of the already opened gifts. Kind of like what they do on Big Brother. Since I haven't been there long, I don't know how silly or serious my gift should be. I wanted to give one of those knit animal winter hats with a small bottle of wine (somewhat of a gag gift), but I'm not sure if that will go over well. So, I'm looking for ideas. Is a blue Snuggie and a pair of slipper socks good? Or should I go with a generic gift card for 20? A dvd? No one is supposed to know who gave what. Any ideas, or go with my thoughts?

Honestly, I would ask a coworker that you are closer to what kind of gifts people give. Either that... or a "basket" with either, maybe movie tickets and some boxed candy, popcorn etc... or a basket of "smelly things" (candles etc.

I like the idea of the cute animal hat and a bottle of wine. I'd like that over a Snuggie and slipper socks. Or go with something else along those lines - a cute gift and a more generic one. Here are some more ideas I thought of:

-$10 gift card and some fun candy or treats
-A six-pack of beer and a bowl for snacks during the game

Don't know if this is any help, but good luck! I'm sure whatever you pick out will be a hit :santa:

one of my favorites was a bag of mint candys like you buy from Hillshire farms this time of year and a roll of stamps wrapped around it! It was perfect and I fought for it! (I needed stamps for my Christmas cards!) :lmao:

I love the bottle of wine idea too!

My office had this one year.

I actually forgot to buy a gift until that morning. I stopped at the gas station and bought $20 worth of scratch off lottery tickets and put them in a holiday card.

It was one of the first gifts picked, all assumed it was a gift card---and it was fought for like crazy. It was "traded" at least 10 times.

Another highly sought after gift was the person who put $21 in an envelope...unforunately I ended up with a sangria set--my mother took it to her white elephant party.

I always try to bring the gift that everyone will fight over! Lottery tickets seem to go over well. One year at my office, someone brought a clock radio that was stolen several times. It didn't seem like it would be popular, but it was. Restaurant gift cards, like Starbucks or Jamba Juice, are usually good. In some crowds, it's all about the alcohol. We did an exchange last year with a group that went wild over a bottle of Bailey's. I like your idea of a bottle of wine with a cute animal hat.

Our group does exactly the same thing. We call it White Elephat. I am new too but I heard in the past, some of the coworkers had come up with some very silly ideas. I heard one kid brought a big bag of potatoes one year. :confused3

I am planning on bring one actual gift with a GC. For gift, I am just going to search my house to see if there is anything new that I don't want. I have found a Christmas wreath that I bought at Target last year, but I'll keep looking. I am also going to give a $10 to $15 starbucks gift card depending on what I decide on gift.

$20 in scratch off lottery tickets ould be fun!!!! But I would ask your co-wrokers if its a goofty or white elephant party where you are supposed to bring something silly or regifted... I have been involved in both

Instant lottery tickets
Scented candles
A bottle of Wine
One of those Giant Rice Krispie Treats (The one I got was $10 at Walmart)
A box of KCups (esp. nice if your workplace has a Keurig in the break room)

I like your idea of the wine & hat.

I think you'll probably find a mix of gag gifts/nice stuff. Last year my DH bought a George Foreman Grill for $20 for his work grab bag. This year he bought a set of two Nerf Guns in a package together.

Honestly, I wouldn't stress too much about it :goodvibes

I played this game once and we took a cd case and put a $20 in it. No one opened it at 1st because people were nervous and of course just knew it was a cd but unsure of what kind of music. Once it was opened everybody wanted that gift. It was the most popular!

Is yourr group mostly women, or are there some guys in the mix?

This is a GREAT guy gift, and we've used it multiple times with equally great deamnd in the gift exchanges.

A whole bunch of bungie cords, in a bunch of sizes.

Also - if you have any specialty or upscale grocery stores near you - what about a collection of some nice pasta, spaghetti or other italian sauces, etc.

Just a warning - my employer would not look kindly on alcohol being on the premises - so you may want to investigate if you go this gift route.

If you have a bunch of guys in your group, or even if you don't, at one's I've done a MagLite is always really popular. Attach a couple of scratch tickets to get you up to the $20.

Believe it or not,the last one we went to, everyone wanted the quesadilla maker.

Wine/alcohol is always the sought after gift in my office. Or coffee-shop gift cards. Or chocolate.

ETA: one year I was pregnant and I ended up with a bottle of Bacardi and a 6 pack of coke. People looked at me very strangly as I walked out of the office!

We have done tons of these. Here are what I found is the most popular:

BOOZE
$20 in lottery tickets
kitchen items like a box of spatula/spoon type items etc.
gift cards (especially if it put with something like a cook book with a $10 grocery GC)
