We just played a game called "Left, Right, Center" that's a dice game. It's nice because it's really easy to play, so even my 5yo niece could play (she won!) The way WE played it, there was money involved, so it's basically gambling, but it was still fun.
Okay, not a game you will find in Target, Toys R Us, but sold more in games stores or online.
It's called Times Up. You work with a partner, and there are three rounds. In the first round, you can do whatever to get your partner to guess your word. Second round, one word only, 3rd round charades. You use the same group of cards for the entire game, so remembering the words from previous rounds helps. The things you guess are famous names (real or fictional). Ranging from political figures, authors, movie characters, people named in songs. One time I got John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt.
There is also an expansion which is titles of songs, movies, books, etc.
We all love the Munchkin games in our house. C'mon, how can you not like a game that has a Cursed Duck of Doom?
We also have The Game of Things - this is a great game for all levels. We've played it with the family (where we kept our answer G-rated) or with just adults, where our answers became more "colorful".
Funglish is another kids game that simple in principle but more challenging to actually play.
We like Uno, Apples to Apples-am looking at getting the Disney version as well, word games like Quibble or scattergories. For older kids and adults we like Ticket to Ride, and Settlers of Catan.
Our favorite games, or games we get yearly if they get destroyed during the year, are Monopoly, Scrabble, Connect 4, Sorry, and Life. There are probably more but those are our favorites we get every year for Christmas.
A simple, really silly game is Flapdoodle. DB gave it to us & it's pretty funny. You do all kinds of oddball things - one card has you smell someone else's armpit & say, mmm, smells like cookies - that type of goofy humor.
Another one we have that is fun is Would You Rather?
