I am looking for good food not in the parks but close. Not expensive...for a family. We have a car.

Not sure where you are staying (onsite or offsite), but right outside of the Value Resorts and across the street from Coronado Springs is a McDonalds. We always hit that for breakfast before we go to the park because the prices are the same as any other McD's and we have a good start to our day without spending a lot of money.

Probably not the suggestion you were looking for, but for us, we spend $12 for our family of 3 instead of $50 to $60 at the park on a character breakfast each day.

Mmmm, Cracker Barrel. I've never eaten at the one near WDW as we eat at one here, but I've seen it. SO good, and the BEST for breakfast. It is sit down, but you'll get a GINORMOUS breakfast for about $6/person.

Plus, if you've never had biscuits and gravy, it's probably the best initiation. And if you dare...grits :rotfl:

On our last day we often grab a meal at the ChickFilA on South Apopka Vineland Rd.

I had heard such good reviews for the Sweet Tomatoes at the Crossroads and we went on our Nov. trip. It was so good, and the prices can't be beat. Their website is www.souplantation.com. Sign up for their "club veg" about a week before your trip to get coupons. We will probably eat there twice on our next vacation. :thumbsup2

crossroads at dtd area has several places to eat
Johnnies hideaway
T.G.I friday's
Chevy's
Perkin's
Mcdonalds
Fuddruckers
Sweet tomatoes
alittle further down 535 is
Olive Garden
CICI's
Ihop
Pizza hut
Joes crab shack

Just outside Downtown is Cross Roads. There are plenty of places to eat there. If you come out at the intersection and take a left, there is even more. Olive Garden, Shoney's and a few others. Shoney's is a buffet and although we haven't eaten there is about 5 yrs. they used to be pretty good. They used to have a little known secret that if you ate there more than once you could bring back your orig. receipt and they would give you a 10% discount on your bill. If you ate there twice in one day they gave you 20% with a receipt.

If you like Pizza I would suggest Flipper's Pizzaria. Very good pizza and reasonably priced. The one closets to Disney is on State Rd 535. They also had coupons in may of the local brochures.

Orlando Ale House.....a local hot spot. Best ..cheap meal ever. We go there every trip. On 535 right past downtown disney!

steak n shake. Keep going passed cross roads, if you are coming out of DTD, it will be on your right.

I totally agree! There's one right in the Crossroads market outside of DTD and it was so tasty!

Another vote for Miller's Orlando Ale House. Locals told us about it, and it's a must at least once each visit. Their portions are HUGE, and the prices are very inexpensive.

Here's our favorite, the seafood platter ($12.99) :

This is our favorite place to eat and we make sure we go at least twice on each visit. The portions are big, prices are great, and best of all the food is good!!! Can't beat the pitchers of beer either! Can't wait to go in June.
Also I second the Cracker Barrel! We love the breakfast there as well!

Chevy's at the Crossroads is a great place to take kids. The complimentary hot tortilla chips and salsa are excellent.

Another vote for sweet tomato's! There is one in the Cross Roads Market place as others have said but if your around Universal there is also one by there too. This meal is not only reasonable but healthy as they only offer soup, salad, past, and I believe pizza its buffet style.

Love the Orlando ALe House!!!! We also have our tradional "just got to Orlando lunch" at Chick-fil-a! :)

There is a sandwich place at Downtown DIsney someone help me out I forget the name, that was affordable and had delicious soup & sammies!Oh EARL or Sandich! They have breakfast sammies & fruit too.

Also a little ways down from Crossroads is Romano's Macaroni Grill. I know it's a chain, but the food is really good, and we don't have one where I live. I always try to go there and Uno's, right at the Crossroads entrance.

Is Pizzaria Uno still at Crossroads? We've dined there and also Buffalo Wild Wings.

Well I will agree that the food is decent and portions are large. One waiter left alot to be desired when we were there last February. Totally walked right into me while he was carrying beer spilled it on me and didn't even apologize. Thought that was very rude!
