Good biography for a 12 year old?

DD13 went through a bog biography phase a couple of years ago, when she was in 7th grade. A few I remember her really liking (I think all of the ones she liked best were autobiographies) were:

Maya Angelou's I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings

My Family and Other Animals by Gerlad Durell (about a young boy moving to Greece from England with his zany family--lots of laughs and many great descriptions of the local wildlife and plants--he grew up to be a naturalist)

Cheaper By the Dozen and its sequel, Belles on the Toes--about growing up in a very big family with some pretty unorthodox views. Lots of love and laughter here too.

It might be too late to make a suggestions, but I loved reading the biography of Helen Keller when I was young. I always found her story so fascinating.

i second small steps it a really good book i have it and have read it a few times. The diary of ann frank might be two hard and two much for a 7 grader i am an avid reader verry intristed in that period but have never been able to tackel that book.

My daughter read Anne Frank's biography in 4th grade and now in 6th grade is reading her diary (I insisted that she read a biography first to get some background before tackling the diary).

It most certainly is not too hard.

Does she like sports? My son wrote a paper on the autobiography of Jackie Robinson when he was a 7th grader.

My favorite biographies were Helen Keller, Amelia Earhart, and Abraham Lincoln.
I still love reading biographies... many many years out of school:goodvibes
