Please take the bird to an emergency vet, with proper care he might survive.

Anne

I'm so sorry to hear about this

I almost hit my own cat once :sad2:

I hope the rooster turn out to be okay.

I'm sorry to hear that but you also need to take the bird to the vet...and if you feel that it is "just a Rooster" and dont want to spend the $$$ than you should not have the bird...

If anything take him to the vet so they can put it down if they cant help it but dont sit there crying while the poor living thing sits there and bleeds to death!!!

You need to show your daughter that you have done all you can for this bird....or she will remember that you did nothing!!!

Just do it!!! go and see what can be done so you can also feel better!

Hope you can make the right decision for the you, your daughter and most of all the suffering bird!!!!

I don't understand why the first thing you would do was run to a message board to post about hitting the rooster? If you are that concerned why on earth don't you take him to a vet? What do you think we are supposed to do? Geesh.

Rude much?

I have some experience with birds/ chickens. It will most likely die from the shock, birds do not handle stress well. Keep it warm and get it to vet.

Please update us. I don't think any animal should suffer a slow painful death, please see if you can find a Vet. that might be able to make an emergency house call.

Never mind. OP came back to add that she had already called the vet.

I called the travelling vet and he said there's not much you can do for a bird that's been hit, just keep him warm and watch him...the emergency vet said the same thing that he'd probably not survive the trip down there.
I never said he was JUST a rooster, he's our pet for crying out loud and I posted the message while waiting to hear back from the emergency vet I:m sorry I forgot to mention that detail thanks for making me feel even worse.

Thank goodness a vet was indeed called. I just couldn't understand posting without doing that first. Glad you added that! Hopefully he will go quickly and as painlessly as possible. Accidents DO happen.

Why is the first post gone and why is the OP getting all defensive?? :confused3

Vet is right prob wont survive but ive seen stranger things happen heat can do wonders with birds. Im sorry this has happened to you. Slap some towels in the dryer to warm up and or put him in box with a heating pad under it with a towel on top. Keeping him warm is the key. Good luck.

If you cant bring him to the the vet, take him out from the under the car and put him in a box and bring him into the house..next find out where he is bleeding from.( if you can find any cuts, clean them and then put flour on the wound and apply pressure it to help it clot..if you cant see any visible cuts, make sure he is comfortable and put him in a warm room with a heat lamp if possible and leave him alone for a bit.. because he might shock...after a bit, go check on him and give him a bit of water and see if he will drink it..you can add a bit of either gatorade, pedialyte or sugar and feed him with an eyedropper if he wont drink...

( my RIR hen, rip part of her comb yesterday and was bleeding all over the place yesterday.. this is what my vet told me to do and he also told me that unless there is something that needs major stitches, 99% of all chicken injuries can be fixed at home and dont need the help of the vet...)

check out www.the-coop.org they have an message board and they have an emergency room thread and there are a ton of qualified people there that can help you..

OP is defensive because a cpl of folks decided to try and make her feel stupid.
Not all of us think clearly in a stressful situation, but folks dont need to act like she is an idiot is.

OP accidently ran over her daughters pet rooster, which was pretty seriously injured by the sounds of it. Her first post was pretty vague and only said the rooster was still under the car bleeding and her DH was an hour away, didn't mention having called the vet.
