Golf clubs with VA?

Has anyone taken golf clubs with VA?? Are they classed as extra baggage? Their website isn't that clear?

This is what the VA website says -

SPORTING EQUIPMENT
All items of sporting equipment such as skis (with one pair of poles and one pair of boots), rucksacks, sleeping bags, and bicycles will be considered as one piece of luggage. Excess charges will apply.We have special rates for carrying sports equipment. For more details, please contact Reservations.


So I would say that they are charged extra for but only count as one charge per item. As it says call them for more info.

We've just come back and I took my clubs with me. On the return journey we had 3 cases and my clubs between the two of us. So I assume that it counted within our 2 cases each.

That having been said, I had a feeling that clubs were allowed in addition to cases, but wouldn't want to stake my life on it.

I read it to be that a set of golf clubs would replace a case, but we will have 3 sets plus at least 2 cases, which if my maths is correct,,, means only one extra case to come home with!! Not sure if one case is enough for all my shopping!!! Still, I can always push plenty of clothes etc.. in the golf bags! Have emailed VA just for confirmation.
Where did you play, BossHogg??
We love Diamondback - fabulous 'tight' course down Davenport/Haines City way! We heard this summer they were going to build a marina and another 18 holes there in the future.. think we may be tempted to look for a property there. Just hope it doesn't spoil the feel to it!

3 of you I assume then? Funnily enough stuffing the golf bag full of clothes was our default solution, but in the end we were fine. I reckon you could get a lot of clothes in a gold bag if you tried hard enough - I had a travel case (borrowed from my B-I-L) which would have fitted tons.

Can see you're reading the trip reports, so won't spoil Kev's comic genius ( ) by saying too much - Kev and I played at Reunion (where the villa is), which currently has 2 courses (an Arnold Palmer design and a Tom Watson design) but they were re-seeding the back 9's so we played the front of each, which was fine apart from the fact that the Palmer one has a LOT of water. They'll also have a Nicklaus one soon. They are lovely courses.

Then Kev and I played with a friend and Disney CM (and DIS-er) called Vernon at Osprey Ridge, which was a lovely course I thought. Completely different to the Reunion ones.

Then when Deb and I stayed at the Rosen Shingle Creek I played at their course, which was nice also.

We played Magnolia this year.. and it was great watching on TV only a few weeks ago!
We are going to play Celebration next summer.. can't wait!!
My 'little boy' is 14yrs and is playing off 7! DH plays off 10 and I'm the 'runt' of the family off 26! My excuse is.. I work full time.. and ladies comps are on weekdays... hence I can never play in them!!
Hope Kev has some golfing pics in his reports!!

Blimey you sound far too good! I don't play at a club so no handicap, but my current aim is to try and get round in less than 2 over per hole - I am that bad! I was achieving this until getting stateside, where it all went horribly wrong

Not sure Kev has many pictures of the golfing at Reunion, but Deb certainly has some, so no doubt they will pop up on the appropriate thread!

I always take my clubs and have never had any problems, even when carrying lots of other luggage. I've also taken them on internal flights within the US and, again, no problems.
