Golf Cart -- Worth it or Not?

We are planning our first ever trip to WDW in April 2009 (4-10). We have a FW site already reserved. Now trying to determine if the Golf Cart is worth it or not. It's too early to know what site we have.

I would be interested in hearing from both sides on this topic.

I agree with 2goofs....its expensive, but as usual...you get what you pay for at Disney. I think it indeed enhanced our Fort fun....but you can easily get by without it. If you have any non-park days planned, time to just hang around the fort enjoying the fort perks....then I would definately get it for THAT day at least.

Even if they came for free with the site, they really don't interest me.
But given the amount of them zipping all over the place I am in the minority.

I would definitely reserve one - as they are usually out of them. If you find you don't think you'll use it, you can always turn it back in.

I, myself, can't imagine going to FtW without a cart ---- but that's why I (and so many others here) have purchased their own - and mostly just to use at FtW!!

We did one trip without a cart and one with a cart. I've already reserved one for our next trip.

It's one of our favorite FW activities. There's nothing like a evening drive through the loops after a park day.

They are especially nice for little ones who have walked a bizillion steps in the parks and there's something about those last steps from the bus to the RV. It saves them a few steps and dad's back.

You can have a cart and have campground curtesy.

I think you'll really enjoy the golf cart. It was the highlight of my kids trips back in the "80's and it's the highlight for my grandkids now.

We went last year, and didn't get one. Let's just say there is a cart at the Fort with my name on it for our Oct trip!

We just returned and yes there is a 10% discount. Unless the prices go up our bill for 7 days was $328 (this includes tax).

I have a different take on the cart. While I've never had one before, I do have my own electric ECV that I use like a golf cart around Ft. Wilderness. It is great to get around the Fort and on days when you are hanging at the Fort it is wonderful. However, on days when you are going to be at the parks, it will just sit parked while you are at the parks AND I park hop a lot, so even though I tried to plan it out, it always seemed that when I returned to Ft. Wilderness in the evening, my little electric scooter was parked at the OTHER end of Ft. Wilderness, so my choices were to ride the bus all the way to the other end of the Fort and ride the scooter back, or just take the bus to my loop and get my scooter the next morning. (There were a lot of nights that my scooter spent the night in golf cart parking at Settlement or Outpost)

I have been going to FW my whole life. This past summer we bought a golf cart and took it to FW this past November. It was awesome having a cart riding around FW. After a hard day in the parks a GC ride can be very relaxing. That said as long as you have bikes you will have a great time. FW can be done on foot but its about like walking around MK all day.

We've never rented a golf cart, although they do look like a lot of fun. We spend a lot of time in the parks so on those days it just wouldn't be worth renting one. I don't know which day(s) we'll be in the campground, so it's hard to reserve in advance, and we only go at busy times when a reservation is a must. We take our bikes and have no problem getting around the campground without a golf cart. We're thinking of buying one, though, and if we do, of course it will be going to the Fort.

We wouldn't think of not having a cart for our entire stay at the fort. Its just a perfect fit for this big resort. We love camping in the 1800 loop which is the most secluded area, its a long way to the settlement area. The cart makes it non factor. Plus its just so fun to cruise around at night and see everyone's Christmas lites and decorations . Golf carts and the fort go together like peas and carrots. We also bring two little electric scooters (Schwinn 2 wheelers). Its a lot of fun , like being a kid again.

we rented a cart our last trip and it made each end of day special for myself and my grandaughter...as soon as we got back we would get in the cart to go look for new " Halloween Stuff" as she put it....it also gave Mommy some down time and a well needed break to a day....my grandaughter still talks about it and can't wait to get back there again.....we talk on the phone every day...some time in the conversaton she stops and says guess what MiMi...we are going to DISNEYWORLD!!!

Here's my 2 cents worth----we just returned from 6 nights of camping at FW. We did not have a golf cart, but really, really wish we did! Hubby and I have already said we are going to reserve one for the whole time we are there next time. It would have come in handy for carrying the laundry, the multiple trips back and forth to the boat launch and the trading post. On the other hand, we both lost weight from all the walking and our pickiest kid ate better than ever from all that exercise! We really had no problem with all the walking, but it looks like an awful lot of fun driving around checking out all the campsites. My 16 yr old (who has his drivers license) was mad because "everyone else" had one but we didn't. If you can afford it, do it. Even if you get it for one or two days.
