I just listened to ~Walk Don't Run~ by the Ventures, on an oldies station on the computer. I hadn't heard it in ages and I started thinking about other oldie instrumentals that I 've always enjoyed. Green Onions by Booker T & The MG's is another that comes to mind.

What about you, any oldie instrumentals out there that you've always liked? :)

I bought so many instrumentals in the 50's/60's, Kim, I loved them. And now there are virtually none.

Smokie, Part 2, Bill Black's Combo, Rebel Rouser-Duane Eddy, Peter Gunn by Ray Anthony, Bumble Boogie by B Bumble and the Stingers, A Summer Place, Percy Faith. Oh, there are soooooo many.

O-o-o-oo-wipeout!!!!!!!!!!! Hawaii5-0. Lara's theme. Love is Blue.

Not sure if mine can be considered as golden oldies, but I can remember my Mom playing 'AM gold' music all the time in the '70's.

There are 2 instrumentals that stick out for me, and I recently downloaded them off Kazaa and burned them for her on CD. Talk about a flashback for her when she listened to them,lol...

The songs are:
Classical Gas by Mason Williams
and
Joy by Apollo 100 (sounds a bit like the Door's organ sound on Light My Fire intro.)

"Pipeline"

lots of good ones mentioned here :)

Tequila!

A bit newer are Deodato's 2001, Hocus Pocus by Focus, Frankenstein by Edgar Winter

oooo, another..."Telstar"!! One of my faves :)

I think Wipeout was the first song every aspiring drummer learned to play!

LOL Bernie, Frankenstein by Edgar Winter, does that ever bring back some (wild) party memories! :)

Oh yes, Classical Gas!

How about Bustin' Surfboards by the Tornadoes? It's on the Pulp Fiction soundtrack, great one! :)

OMGosh Dan, they're playing Rebel Rouser right now!!! :)

It's nice to hear them again!

Does In-a-gadda-da-vida count?

What about Revolution #9? :smooth:

I don't know how golden it is....but I've always loved "Peaches en Regalia" by Frank Zappa (Hot Rats Album)

Also alot of Blues for Allah by the Dead is instrumental.

Of course, the first song I thought of was WIPE OUT!!!

LOL LOL LOL

Anybody remember "Popcorn" from the 70's ?

I also liked "Music Box Dancer" ....

Don't know if those are golden oldies, but on the other end of
the spectrum, one of my favorites is "In the Mood" by Glenn Miller .....

How about "Java" by Al Hirt, "Red River Rock" by Johnny and the Hurricanes, "Love Theme" from Love Unlimited Orchestra?
Robin M.

I only like one instrumental, but I don't know the name of it. I guess you could call it Charlie Brown's theme song?

Oh, and "The Tighten Up", but I have no idea who does that one either. :p

Archie Bell and The Drells did Tighten Up.

The Charlie Brown song you are talking about is probably "Linus and Lucy" by Vince Guaraldi. One of my favorites for sure.

An obscure favorite of mine is the flip side of the Ventures Hawaii Five-O Theme titled "Soul Breeze".

And I'll cast another vote for Pipeline.

I believe it was Archie Bell and the Drells...? :)

Heard another good one today, Surf Rider, by The Lively Ones. :)

When is an "oldie" really an "oldie"...I'm not sure! :)

Oh wow, do you mean, like, Axel F from Van Hammer?

:p :p

Just kidding y'all!!

What about "Rise" by Herb Alpert? Even without the help of General Hospital, I loved it.

I don't know what makes an oldie an oldie. I love Walk Don't Run, but I wouldn't have been able to tell you the name or the name of the artists who performed it if you hadn't posted it here first. I'm no good with names :(

Theme from A Summer Place-Percy Faith
Calcutta-Lawrence Welk(Wunnerful, a-wunnerful!)
A Swingin' Safari-Bert Kaempfert(the theme tune for the original 1960s Match Game)
Mr. Lucky-Henry Mancini
Our Winter Love-Bill Pursell
Fly Me To the Moon-Joe Harnell(used to hear Gene Rayburn play that on Monitor when I was little)
Swinging Shephard Blues-Moe Kaufman
Stranger on the Shore-Mr. Acker Bilk
The Pink Panther Theme-Henry Mancini
A Taste of Honey-Herb Alpert and his Tijuana Brass
Midnight in Moscow-Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen
Take Five-Dave Brubeck Quartet
Cast Your Fate to the Wind-Vince Guaraldi Trio
Wonderland By Night-Bert Kaempfert
Route 66 Theme-Nelson Riddle
The Stripper-David Rose

I think you can tell my own musical taste by that list.....throw in the great big band instrumentals and the Mantovani-type easy listening material and I've got it made.:D
