Golden Globes

Why do people always say this when a certain person they want doesn't win? (Not flaming here. :) )

Helen Mirren was nominated twice in a single category and won. It wasn't until she got up there & repeated it was for Queen Elizabeth, that I knew WHICH role she won for.

Tonight, Clint Eastwood was nominated twice & he won also. So that statement just doesn't necessarily apply.

I have no idea. I was just repeating what I read, but to be honest with you, while I enjoy watching these awards, I don't really care all that much who wins. They will be millionaires whether they win these awards or not.

Aw Leo lost? I didn't see either of his movies but I always want him to win. ;) I will see the Departed when it comes out on DVD. Don't know if I'll be able to see Blood Diamond though.

I had to stop watching because of 24. I taped it so I can watch tomorrow.

Maybe it's like this every year & I never noticed, but as it's the Hollywood Foreign Press, it seems like a large number of "foreign" movies/shows won this year:

Queen Elizabeth (England)
The Queen (England)
The guy from Borat (British actor playing a foreigner)
Babel (Mexico)
Ugly Betty (Spanish)
Letters from Iwo Jima (Japan)
Hugh Laurie (British)
Jeremy Irons (British)
The King of Scotland (Africa)

And there'll be another awards ceremony around the corner anyway. How many awards do these people bestow upon themselves every year?

Isn't the SAG awards the only one that they actually bestow upon themselves by voting for fellow actors? Aren't the other awards chosen by different types of people?

At least with the SAG awards I can watch for the dresses and the male eye candy popcorn:: and not have to sit through all those awards nobody cares about, like Best Audio Editting of a Foreign Film, or something like that. :earboy2:

Could be, there's just so many award ceremonies nowadays. I think I read that there's about 38 every year, whether they're People's Choice, Oscars, Emmy's, it's a lot.

I think the Oscars vote for themselves. I know Rosie O'donnell has said she loves this time of year because she is a member of (something) and gets all of the movies sent to her house. Maybe it's a member of the Academy for the Oscars.

SAG Awards means great looking guys and checking out pretty dresses

Did you see Prince put his hand on the camera? Didn't he win an award? How come he didn't accept? I think he is too full of himself.

Someone said later (was it Hugh Grant?) that Prince was stuck in traffic, and didn't make it in time to accept his award.

What happened to Gov. Arnold? Why is he on crutches?

Actually I think Helen Mirren was nominated in two different categories: best actress in a tv miniseries for the HBO series about Queen Elizabeth I, and then best actress in a movie (drama) for playing Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen. She won two awards last night.:)

She DID win 2 awards, but in the first category, she was nominated twice for both roles. :cool1:

She was nominated in two different categories but she was nominated three times.

Best performance by an actress in a mini-series or film made for television
Gillian Anderson - Bleak House
Annette Bening - Mrs Harris
Helen Mirren - Elizabeth I
Helen Mirren - Prime Suspect: The Final Act
Sophie Okonedo - Tsunami: The Aftermath

Best performance by an actress in a film - Drama
Penelope Cruz - Volver
Judi Dench - Notes on a Scandal
Maggie Gyllenhaal - Sherrybaby
Kate Winslet - Little Children
Helen Mirren - The Queen

Yep, my mistake I just checked the official website for the nominations. The category where she was nominated twice in the SAME CATEGORY was:

Best performance by an actress in a mini-series or film made for television:
Helen Mirren – Elizabeth I (HBO)
Helen Mirren – Prime Suspect: The Final Act (not The Queen, as I said above.)

THREE films last year. She was a busy woman.:faint: And it's not like those were easy roles to prepare for.

Didn't it seem that there were so many double nominees this year?

Clint Eastwood was nominated twice in the same category too - Best Director Movie Drama:

Flags of our Fathers

Letters from Iwo Jima

And Leonardo diCaprio for Best Actor Movie Drama:

Blood Diamond

The Departed

I didn't get to see all of them. Waiting for Entertainment Tonight to come on in about an hour before I choose. popcorn:: :happytv:  :rotfl:

Time for the fun part: which lady had the best dress :)

I thought America Ferrer looked stunning. SO did Selma Hayck.

I actually was a bit surpirsed by the fashion last night - not the best year for standouts either way (except for that Roman Toga/Hair look on that one 20 something actress).

Then again - I didn't wach any preshow and was dis-ing while watching :rotfl:
