Is this gone? I just loved the movie - I know some did not sure my sentiments, but for some reason I loved going to that - especially the ending music montage. So, is it gone???

Yes. It's all part of the DCA renovation. I liked the movie and the music as well. Heather Headley did an awesome job on that song. It made the whole thing so touching.

I never saw it. It just didn't appeal to me and there were other things I wanted to see. :confused3 Don't know if I would have liked it or not. But I do know a Little Mermaid ride sounds better. :thumbsup2

Except for a few school tour groups Golden Dreams was closed forever. They will have to finish the South Boardwalk on the 24th of April and the work on San Francisco Street including moving the bathroom across the street. Hopefully they will add a companion bathroom there. Until then it is a waste of space and personally they should have had daily showings but limit it so they would get filled shows. Sell pins and merchandise also. They blew it.

Golden Dreams was originally planned to have been an animatronic show, not a film. Disneyland canned that idea due to costs. Too bad. The attraction as just a film really wasn't worth it.

I was another fan of the show. One of my "must cry" attractions.
Right now it does physically exist, but is only used for private school and civic groups.
I agree they should at least run 2 shows a day.

That is why I liked the film, the truth about the USA and Calfiornia. The sad part was the coulies who died building the railroad. I could go into a long list of political blunders and injustices but am not wasting my time on that. I feel the film addressed California as she was.

That's great and all, but it was not a "happy" film. That's what struck me as odd: a very depressing film showcasing the tragedies and injustices in California's past, showing in a park designated to be the "Happiest Place on Earth."

Great educational film, but it did not belong in a Disneyland attraction. Not at all.

That struck me as being odd also. You would think they would have shown happy padres working in the missions, the Spaniards, the Roaring Twenties, Hollywood's Golden Era, the test pilots, and surfing. It is a great film but just not Disney. On the other hand they could have made a movie to show there or used it as a playhouse with something like Billy Hiil and the Hillbilies or show movies like the old Fantasyland Theater. They could have made a lot of money with tie ins from the film's merchandise, popcorns, soda pop, and pins. Maybe show movies chapters then let guests buy the DVD for a 10% discount off of stores.

The whole premise of the movie was to encourage and show people how when things are hard you keep working toward that one dream; and that California was founded by people of various nations and cultures who came to there to achieve their dreams. Obviously there was a lot of historical political incorrectness that was addressed in the movie, but it had to be addressed in order to achieve the end result of encouraging people that the world (not just California) can be a better place if they continue to work together to achieve that -- no matter what country or culture they come from. When you see the struggles that people who founded the state had to go through, it makes it seem like what struggles we all go through is easy.
What I got out of it, is that at the end of the day, we are all one and we need to work together and learn from our mistakes to better all of our circumstances. I think that's what made it an awesome show. It inspired us to work together and be better than we were in the past.

Just One Dream
From the attraction Golden Dream at Disney's California Adventure park at the Disneyland Resort
By John Bettis and Walter Afanasieff Performed by Heather Headley

One dream
We come from everywhere with just one dream
This home is where we all can share in just one dream
One day
I still believe if we can see the possibilities
The world can be a better place

So many miracles are happening around us every day
Look to the mountaintop, not the mountain in your way

Side by side, heart to heart
We can finish anything we start
Anything can be done
With just one dream

Sometimes
The hardest thing to do in life is try to understand
The reason why we have to cry
One friend
You know that's all it takes is just one friend to lend a hand
A helping hand, that's all it takes

So many people miss the miracle of what it is to care
Love is what brings us all together, anyway

Side by side, heart to heart
We can finish anything we start
Anything can be done
With just one dream
Hand in hand, we can do
What it takes to make our dreams come true
Each of us, if we trust
In just one dream

We are the wings
We can fly into forever
Like a promise of the sun
We're born to shine

We have the strength
We can change the world together
Build a stairway to the stars that we can climb

Side to side, heart to heart
We can finish anything we start
Anything can be done
With just one dream
Hand in hand, we can do
What it takes to make our dreams come true
Each of us, if we trust, in just one dream
In just one dream

I miss the show as well. It was very inspirational, and DL/CA needs to focus more on using film and music to inspire rather than just entertain. Thanks goodness they are bringing back Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln!

I wish they would keep Golden Dreams, though!

So many people say they go to WDW over DLR because of Epcot.....well Golden dreams was the only "Epcot like" attraction! While it didn't have the scope of American adventure, it had the same tone of edutainment.

It just shows how people really don't know what they want. People (especially on other boards) whine about not getting Westcot, but didn't like the one attraction that would have "fit in" there.

I totally agree!

Thats why I didn't like the film. It is only 1/2 truths with a political agenda overtone. What you saw may have true but didn't fairly paint the entire picture, only a small part of it. I believe in the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth (They don't mean the same thing!).

I came away thinking the films authors want us to feel that most back then were racist, corporations almost entirely evil ect. It was not a film that I feel belonged at Disney. Too much of the story was not told.

Are you from California? What half truths are you referring to? It's interesting to see what people focused on in Golden Dreams. To me, a native Californian, it showed the struggles that the different peoples of California endured to achieve their dreams...hence the wonderful song and montage at the end. The film took the different cultures that made California "the melting pot" of peoples, showed their challenges but celebrated their dreams. Were you put off that it didn't show more of the western expansion into California other than focusing on the Asian contribution to the railroad expansion? There was racism and corporations took advantage of all peoples. And there are those out there that say that the film didn't go far enough and was California history "Disney" style.

But then most people didn't "get" DCA to begin with. I agree with PP that said that here was an attempt to bring Epcot to DLR. And when you look at DCA, it wasn't World Showcase but it was a showcase of California. Look at Condor Flats, all those "pieces" came from small airfields all over California.
I love DCA and I know there are some of you that say that "they" failed in their execution of the plan, but I still love it.

I felt the films strong focal points were not what Californias history is all about but only a part of it. Certainly racism and corporations taking advantage of some did exist. There were certainly other ugly aspects of California history I feel the filmed overly dwelled on. The film failed to show the goodness of those that developed the state and put them into the select minority few. The film dwelled on the negative as if the majority of settlers were evil, racist and corrupt. I do not believe that was the case. Most people and MOST corporations were good, hard working and struggled through tough times.

I was born in southern California and spend considerable time every year in and out of the state. Most of my family is from California going back several generations.

I always thought the truth was the truth. This reminding me of someone who wants to know what the definition of 'is' is! Are we now entering the realm of lawyerspeak? It's a movie, loosely based on actual historical events...Nothing more, nothing less. If it pains people to watch it, then maybe the lesson in that is that things of that unpleasant nature (Like the Japanese American citizens being taken away, jailed, and stripped of their Constitutional rights, and the various racist issues that were briefly touched on in the movie) well, things like that should never happen again, not in this country -- because we are better than that.

If they told the truth, whole truth, and nothing but the truth, including all the investigative reporting, background info, and all sides of each story, etc., they would've had to turn it into a miniseries instead of the 90 minute movie that it was -- and even that might not have been long enough! :scared1: At any rate you'll be very happy because it's gone. :rolleyes1

I agree with everything you wrote.

Telling only one side of the story no matter how truthful that side is tends to sway the audience towards only one viewpoint. That does the settlers of California a diservice and paints them as nothing but racist, greedy and corrupt when most were not. Only some were.

While its true that we can point out the bad so as not to repeat it the same holds true for the opposite. Showing the good is a great way to tell what to repeat!! The film failed in the latter when so many 1000's of California settlers were not racist, were not corrupt and were not evil nor greedy.
