Day 4
We had another early morning, but this time Dan got up for the Backstage Safari. Unfortunately, we didn’t think we had time for breakfast b/c we knew we had bus problems before and didn’t want to miss the tour. We caught a bus right before it was leaving and ended up at AK 45min earlier than we needed to be there. The Safari was great! We saw a male elephant in his outside cage, got to pet a rhino and saw a giraffe. We also saw the nutrition dept and the vet labs. We then went into a classroom for free snacks and bottles of water and saw a video with shots of the CMs caring/training animals and then a CM with a hawk came in to talk about the birds. The tour finished with a private safari ride (same paths but only us on the jeep and the tour guide narrated). I don’t remember the ride going so fast though. I barely had a chance to take pictures of the animals that were out, including a baby hippo and the baby elephant. We got a guidebook, bags make of recycled soda cans and a backstage safari exclusive pin. Total $130.

We went right to lunch at Rainforest Cafe at 12:30 and waited about 10 mins to be seated. I had bruschetta (very good), primal steak, and bananas foster. Dan had cheese sticks, pot roast (good), and chocolate cake (not so good). Total $95.

After lunch we rode Dinosaur, Triceratop Spin, and Primeval Whirl (with FP). That ride is a tight fit for two larger adults and very bumpy. We saw Pooh, Eeyore and Tigger on the character greet b/w Dinoland and the Oasis.

When we left we got tired of waiting for the POR bus so took a bus over to AKL to see if they had any room available which they did not. Took the first bus that came (MGM) and then went back to POR. Dan then went to complain about the bus service at POR and to request to move to another resort for the rest of our stay. We were willing to pay to upgrade to a Deluxe. Almost everywhere was booked and the wonderful CM said she would try to get somewhere to honor our current room rate. The last place she called was WL and they were willing to give us a room at no extra charge – even to give us a king bed. We quickly packed up our luggage and were driven over to WL where we got a wonderful room on the 4th floor facing the pool, parallel to the shoreline, room 4129. We fell in love with WL on the spot. They did have some problems transferring our gold plan over to the new reservation. We should have had 20 meals left when we checked in but they had to start us on a new plan for 3 nights which only had 18 meals so they said there would be vouchers for us in the front desk to make up for the missing meals.

We took the boat over to the Contemporary for dinner at the Concourse Steakhouse. We were supposed to eat at Fulton’s before Cirque but Dan wanted to eat here which was fine with me. I had onion soup and onion rings (Dan didn’t want an app), filet mignon, crème brulee. Dan had Kansas City steak (loved the scalloped potatoes) and choc rasp cake (okay). Total $88.

We then headed to DTD but skipped out on Cirque. Dan had seen it before and really wanted to play at DisneyQuest. I kind of wanted to see Cirque but I didn’t want to go alone and I wanted to be fair and do what Dan wanted to do. We had a great time playing video games for 2 hours.

I went down to the pool when we got back while Dan turned in. Its great that WL has two hot tubs!

Thanks very much for posting your trip report! I'm in the process of planning our Jan. trip and it helps a lot to read about your experiences. Glad to hear you enjoyed the Backstage Safari tour, we're really looking forward to that:D

You mentioned what time the marina closed at FW, do you know what time the WL's boat and bike rental place closes?

Looking forward to the rest of your trip reports!
