Going to WDW after a THR

In September for several years my 32yo DS and I go to a conference. While there we take a side trip to WDW. This year I will be 12 weeks post op with a total hip replacement.

Has anyone had any experience with this? Any advice will be appreciated.

talk to your doctor. sometimes they require you to have a wheelchair - all WDW resorts have these - just ask for you. Of course in your situation, if your doctor requires one I might rent one from an outside source.

He might appreciate that WDW you will be walking ALOT.

I had knee surgery a month before I went - was in rehab for 3 weeks then left!!!

had a great time. I need a wheelchair per my doctor. So we got one from the hotel. I still walked but because of pushing the wheelchair - it really helped to heal my knee. by the time my vacation was over I was walking fine!!!

the only problem I had was mother - she kept seating in the wheelchair (this from a person who has refused one before this). It was okay at times - but sometimes she was just darn heavy....

oh having that wheelchair did tell mother that she was crazy to refuse - so when she comes with me - I get the wheelchair.

if you want more information about WDW with a wheelchair or scooter, follow the link in my signature to the disABILITIES Board. The disABILITIES FAQs thread near the top of the board has a lot of info about getting wheelchairs and ecvs. As was posted, wheelchairs are available for the WDW resorts, but they are first come, first serve and there is not a guarantee that one will be available for you when you arrive.
