Going to the poor house:2015 Inusrance premiums

Wth!! Who did I say I hate ?? What the he'ck are you taking about. I said i hate that voter turn out is so low for mid term ejections and it is, people don't vote but got big races. I said that the founding father don't hold any special attributes. They were pretty much like the people we have in power now, They wrote laws that benefited themselves.
Sorry your imagination ran away with you on that. I don't hate anyone, ok Kim Kardashian but can't be helped.

I apologize, but as long as the country stays splintered, we get what we deserve.

I hate that voter turnout is so low in mid term election. Now I'm a minority so the founding fathers for us aren't the great guys that everyone else thinks they are. Basically I did have a heck of a lot of "constraints". lol mines were some times made of iron, so those "documents" weren't worth a lot. :rolleyes1 so while we have a small admiration for them, we gain our rights in a totally different manner.
And pretty much considering it took the "government" to pass a law to vote in the first place.... well it's just hard for us to go with the "founding" fathers argument.

I really can't make an argument for or against. I work for a big company that pretty much had been raising our rates for the last twenty some odd years. so I had the rather standard 4% increase this year that we've been seeing before the ACA.

It also helps that my family is pretty blessed in that we're generally healthy. All 3 of us have been to the doctors only once for routine annual wellness exams. Dh died from leukemia before the ACA was passed and had a boat load of medical bills even with great company insurance so I really can't see any big difference.

I remember when your DH was ill and passed.

----------------------------

I can understand to a certain extent how you feel about the Constitution. History hasn't been kind to blacks in this nation. It's a blight to be sure.

The Founding Fathers were flawed and conflicted. I have read where some knew in their hearts slavery was wrong. Some tried to make up for it in small ways. But they did keep slaves. There is no denying it.

The Constitution is an important document. While it didn't include blacks in the beginning, it does now.

"In questions of power, then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution." --- Thomas Jefferson.

LOL about K. Kardashian.

Going to bed early. Good night to all.

But don't mistake "different" for splintered dare. We're a nation of variety, we're going to be different. That's where the idea of compromise comes in. I just don't understand how you came to the conclusion that I some how hated some one or don't want the country to prosper simply because I think the founding fathers were nothing special. What I want you to remember is that how we view some one in our past is just that, how we view a historical figure.
I don't hate anyone and I certainly don't want some one to worry about how they are going to pay for their kid to see a doctor

Now we also need to remember is that health care cost have been an issue for a while, decades. So we also suffer from "it's not my problem" itis. As long as my premiums were low than those " other" folks just had to deal. well now it's effecting every one and now people are hollering

I cannot believe how much it costs to pay for your healthcare in the US. I've realized how blessed I am to have free healthcare. It's something I've been taking for granted.

Yours isn't free either. You're paying through much higher taxes than we have in the US. I imagine it's cheaper but not free.

You are right that our 5% tax includes some for our healthcare system, but all in call what you pay is based on what your income is. Even if you are in the poor house, you still will receive the same level of health care as someone who makes 6 figures. Per month the amount of money is very minimal.

Anyway, VOTE!!!

I want to add something to that - EDUCATE YOURSELF then vote. Don't vote for someone just because a movie or rock star is backing that person. Don't vote for someone based only on their sex or skin color - know the issues! Find out the candidate's experience and where he or she stands on the issues. Don't vote for someone you know nothing about just for change sake.
I'm not crazy about Howard Stern but he had a great "man on the street segment" after the last presidential election where his staffers interviewed people who voted for a candidate and didn't know anything about the issues at all. It is sad to see the ignorance and even more importantly the apathy in this country. As long as people have their Ipads and Facebook, they don't care about the direction this country is taking.

Canadians shell out more on taxes — federal, provincial and local, and indirect — than they do on food, shelter and clothing combined, says a report by the Fraser Institute released Monday.

The Canadian Consumer Tax Index compares how much the average taxpayer forks out today, compared with 1961, posing the question: Are Canadians getting enough bang for their bucks?

It finds taxes have grown more rapidly than any other single item of expenditure for the average family. Last year, that added up to 41.8% of income, compared to 33.5% in 1961.

I'm just so disgusted in the whole thing. It's stunning to me that I could find myself paying more for health insurance than for my mortgage & yet it pays for almost nothing. I'm now paying $3,000+ for the same test that cost $75 10 years ago when my insurance premium was 20% of it's current cost? What the bleep?!?!?!?!

very true

and my concern is that everyone is focusing on "premiums". which I totally understand but until we figure out why a test that was 75 bucks now has inflated over 300%, we'll never get any relief.

I went to school at the Pitt and remember back in the early 80's I went to a forum hosted by newt gingrich of all people. He was the first one that I remember saying that insurance cost were getting out of control. We did absolutely nothing. Then Ms. Clinton also tried to raise the issue and was shot down.
So now we are at mass critical implode and we get "bandaides".

Now of course it's simply become a game of politics so nothing really will change at all. Even if they some how manage to get rid of ACA, does anyone really believe that health care premiums will drop? LOL. nope they won't. we'll simply revert back to "well I've got mine so no worries" to bad for you.

I'm disgusted too.

I'm scratching my head at how some can be so glad for the ones that now have insurance when so many people were robbed in order for them to get it! It makes no sense to me. I guess the ones that have been robbed don't matter. How else can you take it?

We're paying for others to have better insurance than we do and paying through the nose for the little coverage that we have. Insulting on every level.

How is that a good thing??

I always wondered though if they feel it's money well spent. I don't know anyone from Canada well enough to stalk them and ask.

I lived in Portugal when I was first married. dh's dad and family was from Lisborn. They too pay a large amount of their money in taxes but tend to be exceedingly happy.
now of course the country almost went broke a few years ago, so that euphoria may have died but they really didn't understand why we moved back to the states especially when we said we wanted to start a family.

who knows. this is my "sociology" schooling taking it over. don't take it as me saying one system is better than the other. Just pondering on a cold Monday.

That's what's happening now, in reverse. People don't want to see it, but it's true.

We had systems that could've been reformed. That's the sad thing.

Unfortunately we had to pass the bill to find out what was in it. And most of the things driving up health care costs were not addressed.

Yes!

Bringing that up just makes me want to implode! That one statement encapsulates all that is wrong with the whole stupid thing (and what's wrong with Washington). Lack of common sense and cavalier misrepresentation of the people.

Just makes me sick. I hope I won't need my compromised insurance.

My brother's girlfriend said it's nice unless you need something in a hurry. Her father waited 6 months for heart surgery.
Testimony of Sally C. Pipes, President and CEO, Pacific Research Institute
U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, Subcommittee on Primary Health and Aging, March 11, 2014

Those Canadians who can afford to do so have simply opted out of their healthcare system. An enormous number jump the queue for care in their native land and travel to the United States to receive medical attention. In 2012, over 42,000 Canadians crossed the border to get treated.

So not so much.

It would have been cheaper to just give the uninsured inurance and leave the rest of us alone.

Wait until the unions get forced into this.

It will most certainly hit the fan.

You are so right about that. The outsourced (to Canada) website cost well over what it would have cost to insure the uninsured. Then the cost to market and sell it to a public that the majority didn't want.

It's been a nightmare from the start.
